It would be a mistake, just like GT6 was, to release a new GT game on old hardware alongside the release of a new console and make us wait till near the end of PS5 life cycle before we even get a next-gen GT. There's not much more Polyphony can do on PS4.

And upgrading your PC alone to be able to play the latest games at near locked-60fps is going to cost more than $499. Pretty much every AAA game on PC is also out on consoles, so I'm not sure what PC is supposed to offer in terms of games. And the next GT game will most definitely have some ray-tracing. PS5 will be backward compatible with current PS4 games anyway, just trade in your PS4 and you'll probably be able to get PS5 for $3-400.
I like this idea. It would be awesome if it were backwards compatible with PS3 & PS2 games!!! That would be very cool.

This is not what I wanted. I wanted another GT on PS4. If this is true, then most of us are ****ed up. I think I'll move to a PC next year. Everything is cheaper and I have some friends which have good PCs. I'm not going to spend 499$ in a console only for playing GT which is the only good PS4 only game imo.

There is no PC sim at this moment that gives the same value for money as GTS, with ranked multiplayer, a large range of cars and tracks, and a career mode.
I play mostly on PC (Raceroom), but play GTS for the online and career parts.

Everything is cheaper with pc? Can you explain a bit more how you are going to achieve smooth and crisp graphics with low priced pc gear in today's pc sims?

Yep, my Asus Republic of Gamers PC set me back well over $1000

People desperately want another 'classic' GT game, especially after Polyphony flipped them the bird for the vast majority of the lead up to GT Sport's release, the first few months of release, then did an about face and realized how stupid hitching all the horses to making an console iRacing derivative was, and is now trying desperately to patch that burnt bridge back together, and muddling what the entire point of this game was.

I mean, I could care less. Evidently the straight up lying in the GT5/6 era from Polyphony, PROMISING THE MOON in terms of features and either half baking them, not delivering, or delivering it months or years after the fact is over, but it's obvious that now it's replaced by the idea that Polyphony is stuck with trying to appease the people who want a classic GT game, but also desperately want to shed it aside and move onto something new. Leaving us with GT Sport in it's current state.

To be fair, we did get the moon in GT6 :sly::lol:

Maybe he's referring to old games being ran in his PC.

the old games will not have the same level of graphics as GTSport.

Raceroom runs fine at 4K on my PC, but it is not as nice looking. It is also much more expensive, if you want to buy some car and track packs. Online is far below GTS, even when using third party apps like SRS.

GTS with improved physics and a dashboard view with customisable FOV and useable mirror would stomp on all PC sims imo.

PS5 would allow for a better physics engine.

I think the idea of a massive GT Sport update, essentially turning the game into GT7, along with it being cross-gen and the PS5 having graphical and feature enhancements over the PS4 is the most realistic idea. GT Sport still has so much life in it, so I can't see PD launching a completely new game, and essentially making GT Sport obsolete in many ways. If PD released GT7 with new and improved content and all of the same online features as GT Sport, why would anyone stick around and not just upgrade? The only other option I can think of would be that PD makes GT7 a traditional GT game with less focus on eSports and multiplayer, and keeps GT Sport a separate thing that fulfills the need on that side of things.

The PS5? Sadly it isn't, which makes me think twice if I'm going to buy it once it launches. :indiff:
I'm not so sure about that. There's quite a bit of evidence and rumors going around that SIE is putting some focus on bringing the past into the present. I can see them wanting to make the ultimate Playstation console, and having PS1-PS4 backwards compatibility. I could be way off though....and this could just be wishful thinking. Haha.

Obviously not. GT Sport is only two years old and is being ran by a powerful console in PS4. It's given that equivalent games with similar graphics like that need powerful PCs to run them.

Well, there's some article that states that it will only be able to run PS4 games in terms of backwards compatibility but not the PS3 or earlier games. That was the one I'm referring to when I said that.

Yeah as far as known details go PS4 is only backwards compatible with PS4 games and nothing else, I do think it's a wasted opportunity though because I for one would buy a PS5 if it gave compatibility with the entire Playstation systems but sadly I don't think that's what Sony want to offer.

There's none. They have been pretty clear the focus is on migrating ps4 owners over to ps5 ASAP. The articles they've put out mention wanting perfect ps4 BC. As in ps4 and ps5 versions of the same game being able to work together, cross save, and cross play. They even delayed the ps5 by a year because BC wasn't what it needed to be in order to launch in 2019.

Don't you mean PS5 being backwards compatible with others? I think the best reason that they have gave for only going with the games of the PS4 is due to the complications of the PS3's internal hardware which made it hard to replicate its game while the ones from PS2 and below are already too old to be considered now. But yeah, that's really a missed opportunity. I do wonder who bought PS Classics just to play the first GT titles and other games from the PS1 around 20+ years ago.

I wonder how they will handle the FIA season with a new release of the game. Do they just say ok this season is over and you'll have to buy gt7 to participate in next season, or will sport mode and FIA become an entity on it's own accessible from both gts and gt7? If gt7 has more cars and tracks than gts will they just limit what combo's will be run untill gts ends? Will we keep our current garage? If the games and systems are comparable then I think a paid dlc to upgrade to gt7 would be the way to go. The dlc would add all the offline content and leave sport mode pretty much as is.

I hope they leave GTS for esport thing and continue to develop it to certain point while also making proper gt with gt7 for us who don't care about esport.

You mean like the addition of hundreds of races into an added on mode such as GT League, catering just for single player races?

Yeah, they did that. Actually, they haven't changed much on the online esports side in a long long time. Very few changes in the update logs improve the quality of life of the online modes, with the majority of updates being new road cars and GTLeague events, with the cars rarely being suitable for FIA Races

I meant more like they keep updating GTS even with GT7 out. Long time ago I've read that it actually is the idea. I don't know about esport, I'm a fast driver but couldn't care less about that just want GT with stuff like real endurance races, used car dealership, good career mode, challenging events and game that you need like year to go through.. I know used car dealership wont happen again because its easier to sell rare cars to spoiled people foe real money but I hope you get what I'm saying.

Keeping Sport as its own thing alongside the next game would run contradictory to Kaz's statement about the next GT being a combo of the past, present, and future, though. For that reason, btw, I don't think it's even gonna be called GT7, but rather something all-encompassing like "Gran Turismo World." Now that'd be a fitting title.

We're not too far from February (as potentially rumored, again) now. I'm looking forward to it, really.

I'm wondering if electrification ill be a big thing in the next game.

No doubt Formula E, Robo cars, hybrid race cars, etc. Now, ETCR is the next big series to embrace electrification. VW & Audi have announced they won't be building next gen TCR cars. Audi did confirm they'll continue DTM and GT efforts. Still, with the next generation of GT players soon to grab controllers and wheels, it's an opportune time to expand the EV car lineup, as well as education.

A paid DLC to upgrade to GT7 sounds like a brilliant idea.
Maybe in both platforms, the PS5 version being high definition but the other contents remain the same.
Players, PD, SONY, and FIA would all be happy with that.

Paid DLCs like what specifically?

I'm thinking that if gt7 is released as a ps5 game then those who have a ps5 just buy the full game and get to import their gts garage and anything else that's compatable. For those who don't have a ps5 they could buy a season pass that would keep regular monthly updates for gts coming. The updates would ensure compatability for sport mode by supplying the necessary cars and tracks.

Likely GT7 will be announced with the PS5 around February, given the average announcement of just over 2 years after a release.

Would be helpful for anyone that bought the LHDLC. Having the 100mil cap on the PS4 and upgrading to a PS5, should transfer over credits like how we had in GT4.

I do wonder if cars were transferable from PS4 to PS5, would they be "low-res"?

I hope they include all the cars and tracks from GT Sport in GT7 from launch. It was kinda dumb that they didn’t do that with GT6 and GT Sport. They could’ve saved these update for new-to-series cars and returning standard cars in premium glory.

They didn't do that because most cars in GT6 were not ready for GTS in terms of quality.

I don't think that's a brilliant idea from Sony's POW. GT has always been a system seller and a killer app. There would be no point in making GT7 for the PS5 basically Gtsport but running better. I prefer to get a new, better game, with new features and buy the PS5 for that.

I have a little collection of those in digital, about 5. Unfortunately there not so many offers in general. I would buy more if they will add, something like classic NFS.

I see people buying old Resident Evil games everyday. If there only was a offer, I'm certain there will be plenty of buyers.

GT7 will be its own standalone PS5 system seller that will have a lifespan at least as long as GT sport...2-4 years? Hopefully at launch or within 3-9 months of launch. I will by buy PS5 day 1 if it is.

GT sport will continue to be supported for at least another year or maybe even 2, alongside GT7 and will be be fully backwards compatible between PS4/5.

I can't guess how sport mode in GT7 will work. If it will be fully stand alone or if maybe there will be two sets of races. One with only GT7 compatible tracks, weather, physics enhancements and effects. And a second set that are GT sport compatible, so you can race against the much higher player count that sport will definately have for at least a year or two...or 3 into ps5's lifetime. I hope so, that gives the player the option, instead of having to load up the old game to play against the masses. Options.... I hope that is a big key word for PD in the next game. Options, options and more options.
Don't be so hard line on certain aspects. Allow us to choose how we get to play, please.
(Customizable Views, FoV's, HUD's, pedal curve rates, rotations, button settings...
The list goes on and on

It would be so nice if they'd brought up GT2 and/or GT4 on PS4 as retro, just like done in many other games. Not even remastered, just make them playable with DS4 and modern wheels. I'm sure sellings would be surprisingly high.
