Should PD have let the modding slide? ... OP Updated.

Should PD allow this activity in GT5?

The driving physics are the best they've ever been. The graphics are the best they've ever been. They added online... everyone else already had it because GT4 was on the PS2, remember? While I will always admit that the PD machine is slow to assimilate some ideas and improve (engine sounds, interface, career mode, AI etc...) you can't deny its strengths.

The graphics are better than they were on the previous generation console, no doubt, but that isn't raising the bar. That is simply keeping pace.

The physics are arguable. Some will quote many other products for their physics.

The graphics are up to par for the premium cars, but the rest are up to PS1 standards, standards that are a decade and a half old. They didn't recreate anything, they just resold us content that we have paid for already.

Let's look at the GT6 peeks we've had. It's an NSX concept and some tracks from GT3. So again, they'll sell us rehashed content.

I am eager to see what the big "must have" reasoning will be for GT5. Frankly, content from a decade ago isn't what I'll be paying for. Don't be shocked that in this very tough time for large scale games if many take a pass on this leftover.

 You're too funny.

I more less meant it as "true enthusiasts were hit as well as the Uber-cars"
If I meant car modders were the only enthusiasts that would mean I wasn't an automotive enthusiast before modding came about. Not true..
Sorry for the confusion. 👍

No prob, no worries. I may sound serious at times but I usually forgive very easily. lol

Unforgivable.

 haha, it's all good man..

I am a little too opinionated I will admit. At the same time though, it's an opinion and it's mine, which means it shouldn't matter that much to people.
The whole thing will probably blow over soon and I'll update and get back to GT racing.. But I'm not ready to get rid of my cars :grumpy:

As the saying goes, it can take years to gain a customer, and only seconds to lose one. I like a lot of things about the GT5 series, but each iteration seems to have new flaws and not necessarily dealing with the old ones either. I'm not loyal to PD, I'm not loyal to anyone, I simply go for whoever provides quality of service, options, and value for money. PD need to do much more for GT6 to keep me and I should imagine a fair handful of others as a future customer.

PD have very clearly been shown one of the major things that have been missing for all these years, and in one sense or another, it's already there in the game, it can be done. Let's see what PD do for GT6, if it's going to be more of the same, then I shall be going down the P-Cars and others route, same as a whole group of people will. A lot of customers will be lost if they're not careful.

New OP...

Games have rules, that is true...

Games are also meant to entertain, and after 2 and a half years this game entertains few (I might add, I race with a core group of guys and have a blast racing at GTAcademy levels). When the game maker notices their game come back to life in such fashion as we've seen in these past couple months (If you need proof - YouTube video's of hybrid cars have MANY more views then GT5 channels with core subscribers that do race commentaries. Views=Popularity=Traffic=Relevance). You think they would take action by adapting rather than oppressing. With GT6 on the far horizon, you don't think they would want their game to be as relevant as it could be - rather then stabbing 80% of the GT Population in the heart?

I won't be updating - I'll race on different games.

Wait I just saw this, did you really suggest 80% of online players used hacked cars?

80% does seem abit much I'd estimate it's around 10-15% (maybe 20%) of current players that use/d them. Which is still probably a fairly large amount of players.

Perhaps I just had "luck of the draw" when going into lobbies. Whether it be Race, drag, cruise, drift etc. They were there. Drag, cruise, and drift were ALL hybrids. Race not so much. Either way, 80% may be high as a whole I'll give you that.. But looking into the different communities you'd be surprised. 👍

Oh I agree, drift lobbys were 8 out of 10 cars would be a hybrid and it was awesome :), Probably 80% of the players i've come across online since hybriding started were using one, but the % of hybrid use for the whole community player base will be much lower than that I expect.

Just gonna throw this into the mix, I think PD are sore and butthurt because the average Joe gamer took something "Kaz the so called perfectionist" made and actually improved on it, I myself have not played GT5 in a long time simply for the fact that it got abit long in the tooth and frankly bloody boring, So I would like to congratulate anyone who created hybrids and say thank you for sticking it to PD and lets hope they learn what car enthusiasts really want 👍

2.11 with mods is a better game with more interesting cars. That's an opinion based on seeing it from both sides. Obviously the die-hards that have loved the game from day one will say differently, it's unfortunate that they never actually tried it any other way.

haha, great post. Got a good laugh out of it. I like how you think, certainly a possibility :)

Or they did it because hybrids are a ToS violation and PD doesn't condone hacking? (or online hacking, whatever.)

my GT5 disc is back to collecting dust it seems, RIP GT, it was fun.

ps. i would LOVE to see online numbers post update, considering more than half of the users online were like myself, only dusting off and playing the game because of hybrids.

More than half of the users is probably an exageration, and even half might be pushing it a bit too much, but yes, I also do believe that quite a lot of players will stop playing GT5 after this update. Or at least won't play online.

According to which survey?
In any room I joined (apart from dedicated hybrid rooms) the ratio of hybrids to non hybrids were more like 1 in 10.

are you sure about that? you'd be surprised...apparently most GTPers think hybrids only consist of 3000HP Civics lol there was at least one in every single room i've joined in the past month or so, you just have to know what to look for (removed wings, engine notes, stance, wheel spacers, drivetrain swaps, etc).

Have to agree, nearly every room I'd been in recently, up until 2.12, had at least one hybrid in it as well.

I have a Scirocco and the only thing changed is the drivetrain from the Golf R. You'd never know it was AWD...

I think Sony/PD have missed a trick honestly, I would happily have paid for DLC that let me legitimately modify cars offline since there is clearly a market for them (they obviously know how to detect these cars so it could be added to the servers to prevent them going online if they wanted to)

But I guess they're locked into strict agreements with the manufacturers that would prevent any unauthorised modifications.

As others have said, you'd only be able to detect the ones that were blatant. I ran dozens and dozens of race and no one knew any different.
