Pardon the double-post, but I just found this: Kobayashi (for some reason, I always spell it "Koabayshi") is believed to be in the running for the Force India seat.

That's just conjecture for now, but the interesting part is that Bob Fernley - the team's depute principal - has admitted that they are not just looking at Sutil and Bianchi. It is interesting because about two weeks ago, it was reported that Force India had narrowed down their second driver choice to either Bianchi or Sutil.

That would make my season already, what an awesome choice he would be.

You would think after so long as an F1 fan e.g. for as long as I can remember, I would be used to the dichotomy of supporting a driver who has gone to a new team, while also staying loyal to one's favourite team. I'm sure it's very common, but Lewis Hamilton and McLaren were much more than merely a good combination - but that Lewis and McLaren developed together and it really, really showed... so, I'm going to support Lewis at Mercedes - or anywhere for that matter - but I'm going to miss rooting for McLaren quite so much... and it will take some getting used to supporting Mercedes

I have this exact dilemma. For the last few years I've been an active supporter of Hamilton/Button/Mclaren. It was the perfect partnership. Hamiltons always been my number one guy, however if it was Button/Hamilton fighting for first on the track I was mute. Now I've never really liked Mercedes. Not a huge fan of the road cars or the race team who I still think had a good car at the start of 2012 and yet have never really done anything worth noting in F1 yet. Granted Nico won a race, but Button got stuck in the pits. Who knows what would have happened there.

Anyway, I'm going to be following Hamilton. Ill be cheering for him and also the young guys who do good. I hope to see Perez win a race at McLaren and if Mercedes don't produce the car then I want Button to take the championship. Of course if Mercedes do produce the car then we all know Hamilton is the perfect person to make it show and bring quality on the track. Mercedes/Hamilton will be interesting to say the least.

Well then, a bit uninspiring, but at least now we know who's driving the car on day 3 and 4 of testing for them.

Sucks Petrov's out for good this year, hopefully he finds a seat for 2014 so he can race in Sochi.

If Petrov gets a seat in F1 this year I'll puke. He's spent a lot of time occupying otherwise decent cockpits and doing nothing with them. The only achievement of his unremarkable career was in the second half of last year, where he valiantly bested a team mate who'd lost interest.

Based on what he has been saying on Twitter, it's more likely that he's working on his 2014 plans. If he joins a team in 2013, he'll probably be test and reserve driver.

It has been speculated for a while now that McLaren would be/are developing their own engines for 2014. Purchasing Cosworth would give them all the facilities and equipment that they would need to do it. That said, it seems far too late for McLaren to be acquiring Cosworth with a view to developing engines for 2014, particularly since there has been no word from Cosworth on their 2014 plans (though if McLaren are indeed purchasing them, then they would understandably remain quiet).

Ain't no way, starting now from scratch, that they can have a competitive Cozzy engine ready for 2014. McLaren would have to be making a long-term play and counting on using Merc engines for at least one and maybe two seasons -- if Merc plays along, which I'd imagine would be a mite uncertain given the intellectual-property ramifications.

I'd note that Allen has only tweeted this item. He doesn't as yet have a full-blown story about it on his Web site. No doubt he's trying to follow up, but I for one will await a fuller report before buying into this.

The Deccan Chronicle is reporting that Narain Karthikeyan has amassed a consdierably amount of sponsorship and could be taken on by Force India as a reserve driver, but he's supposedly angling for a full-time race seat.

Oh god, please? No! :nervous: Now I'm really keeping all the extremities on my body crossed, that Kamui gets the seat. At the same time though I'm aware it's unlikely to happen. :indiff:

It appears to be a rehash of stories that emerged at the Indian Grand Prix last year - and that was little more than an Indian newspaper telling the Indian public that an Indian driver would race for an Indian team.

That said, I wouldn't go holding my breath over Kobayashi getting the seat - Jules Bianchi appears to be the favourite.

If they take him and Kobayashi that would be the greatest thing that has ever happened in the history of everything ever.

Karthikeyan? Last time I checked, it was a very rare occasion he got inside the 120% time in Quali when his team mate was well clear of the 120% cut off... How would that be great?

He was within the 107% time at every race except Australia, including qualifying over a second faster than DLR at Singapore.

Kathikeyan definitely gets more stick than he deserves, but I think the only way I can put this is that I wouldn't pick him out of the available and rumoured drivers. He isn't bad..just there are better out there.

I'll put this one down as fantasy again, Indian drivers have been rumoured for that team ever since it was called "Force India". Unless Sahara have more nationalistic ideals than Mallya.

He is just distinctly average. He doesn't fall into that group of truly awful drivers but he's not much higher.

Noticed that Force India made an adjustment to it's twitter, to the group picture of Di Resta, Hulkenberg and Bianchi on the left side. In the last few days they just rough cut Hulkenberg and Bianchi off using ms paint lol.

And Spain.
And Korea.
And even when he did make it into the 107%, it wasn't by much. Still better people there to put into a Force India seat.

He had mechanical issues at both of those qualifying sessions, causing him to never even set a time at Korea. On average he was within 5% of the pole position time.

Didn't Kamui already say a while back he had given up on a drive this year? He must know he's not in with a shout of the FI seat saying that, or that he simply doesn't want it.

That might mean nothing. It's only like going to several job interviews, you are only going to pick one job.

Well, it says in the article, "My main priority is to secure the competitive F1 seat in 2014."

I don't think Kamui would waste his time testing a bunch of different cars. He'll probably end up racing GT cars, if not this Ferrari, something in line with it.

@Simon
I'm pretty sure he'd take the FI drive if he could, they're not doing too badly it seems this year, as a package I mean. But yeah, he gave up once the fan funding didn't exactly work out.

.

That was based on his message last year that he had given up. Despite that stories linked him with the FI seat.

Im surprised that FI havent selected a 2nd driver. It wasting a lot of time for the future 2nd driver, already had one week testing, so if they want the 2nd driver to be quick or at least understand the car they best decide soon. Seems like Bianchi vs Sutil really, Sutil would be my choice
