I'm hoping that now the pressure is off of Massa he'll put in a blinding end to the season. 👍 It seems like the constant pressure put on him just hampered him, especially taking into account how the accident changed him.

Too bad he's not coming back to F1, he had great chances, if he didn't went DNF in Monaco, Canada and Germany in 2002, he'd have that WDC :)

If he came back to f1, it would be a disaster. A lot has changed since he left. He's spent the past eight years struggling to adapt in NASCAR. What makes you think he could come back to f1 and be successful? I don't really see him being successful in indycar either. Just look at Sebastien Bourdais. He won four straight champ car titles and he isn't exactly setting the indycar world on fire. And then there's Montoya's questionable fitness...

Actually, I didn't mean coming back to F1 this or the next year, I meant that it's bad that he didn't returned to the sport after that US grand Prix, or maybe the next year

I perfectly know that it would be similar to Schumacher's comeback, Schumacher spent four years without racing in F1, with that disastrous result, now imagine eight years witount being in F1...

There's nothing I can tell you about this and ↓

Being in a shoe-string team doesn't exactly help. He won his 4 titles with Newman-Haas, the best team by far in Champcar. He's now driving for Dragon, a team like many in Indycar that barely has a budget without a major pay driver. Not to mention they were one of the teams stuck with that useless Lotus engine for much of last year.

Honestly, Bourdais has done a respectable job. And thats without going into the lottery of strategy in Indycar.

Here Montoya is joining Penske..their stats speak for themselves. I'm not sure he will win any titles but he might win races.

For reference, anyone who isn't driving for Penske, Ganassi or Andretti are always going to have a hard time fighting for race wins in Indycar..let alone the championship.

Others would say that the accident didn't do anything to him.

Poor Webber thinks he may have left too early from F1. I don't know, I think he should have done one season in the V6 and then went to Porsche. Surely they would take him then or now, but who knows for sure, not I.

I would've made the same choice. I wouldn't want to be going through all the growing pains of the new reg's just for it to be my last. Go out in a great package, it's a good way to go.

Helping Porsche develop their new ride is going to be taking part in history. It's hard giving up that chance in my eyes.

btw, Massa recently said that he's not going to move over for Alonso from here on out, Alonso's on his own, Felipe's gonna fight tooth and nail for every position. Good on him.

Indeed, good on him. I think Webber may have wanted to just try and see if they were going to be fun or perhaps he sees that RBR are probably going to stay pretty nimble next year, which wouldn't surprise me.

I don't think it's the accident as much as getting robbed of the world title by the last corner. I've been in that position before in other things in life and I haven't fully recovered yet. When you've worked so hard for something, and thought you've finally done it only to lose it like that is devastating. You subconsciously lose any motivation/focus in the latter attempts thinking it'll lead to nothing again. Mental weakness, maybe. But it's not uncommon.

I think it's better to use whatever he has left in the tank to actually win something before he retires from racing. Switching to WEC when he's completely washed up and too old will most likely result in failure.

What exactly did he say? That further proves that Alonso can't sleep at night because ever since the Kimi announcement he's been doing nothing but **** Massa's **** on his twitter

Eh? One tweet.

Portuguese interview

http://globoesporte.globo.com/progr...-no-fim-do-ano-e-admite-namoro-com-lotus.html

Notes from the interview:
  • Sergio Perez still doesn't have a contract for 2014 with McLaren.
  • McLaren contacted Massa, but he can't tell if it was good or bad, just that they did contact him.
  • Contact with Lotus on the other hand was very good.
  • German GP 2010 where he was told that Alonso was faster than him really hurt him. Really really hurt him.
  • Massa feels that Alonso always treated him well and that their friendship is genuine.
  • In 2012 he was very close to finishing his career in F1 due poor performance.
  • He believes Kimi and Alonso will clash with each other.
  • He also reckons he is having a "very good" negotiation with Lotus, but also said that McLaren contacted his agent.

Ferrari says otherwise:

Perez signed a 3 year contract I thought. So that would last until the end of 2015.

McLaren has options in the contract but hasn't signed the actual contract extensions, yet. They can show him the door whenever they want. All "3 years" meant was that if he was to be kept on, the terms would stay the same through the 3 years, not that he was guaranteed the job.

Whitmarsh has stated that he would like to keep the same line-up in 2014.

I honestly cannot see McLaren fielding any other drivers than Perez and Button for next year.

They can say whatever they want, but things can always change as we've seen so well this year.

But I'm just pointing out the logistics behind these sudden changes and contracts that are seemingly "broken" when they're not. Everyone assumes that it's binding and that one is stuck with whatever the deal is, but most of the deals drivers make with teams have tons of contingencies at every corner. These things always have exit clauses, options, and such.

I can't see Mclaren getting rid of Perez either, at least not for Massa. Perez joined the same year they had an off-season so he hasn't had a good chance to prove himself yet. He has on occasion beat Jenson in the races and they're about neck and neck on qualifying pace, so unless they were expecting Lewis-like pace, they have no reason not to keep him on as a driver.. I would really like to see Hulkenberg in a better car (As he's the best young driver to come through since Vettel in my opinion), but i'm a big fan of Perez too so I don't mind what Mclaren do.

As for Massa, he's a nice guy and I want him to stay in F1, but his performance over the past couple of years has been lacking somewhat. Perhaps it's just his pairing with Alonso (Who in my opinion is the strongest driver in the sport overall), or perhaps it's due to his crash. Unless he can secure a good amount of funding, I feel he would be too much risk for the smaller teams. I think it's a case of go to Lotus or retire.

Same thought as well, it could be that his performance is fading due to his pairing with Alonso. We all know that Ferrari is giving 100& to Alonso while Massa is more like his side-kick. Second driver actually. He's never had the chance to prove himself that he could do it. When he can, Alonso will take it away from him. Take Germany 2010 for example..

I like the guy, he deserves another chance. Surely he's not going to any teams lower than Lotus so yeah...

We know that Alonso would only want to be #1 in any team that he's into but signing back into McLaren wouldn't be much of a different either. But won't be a surprise since we know who Kimi is and he's gonna give Alonso a very hard time both on and off the track..

I actually wouldn't be suprised if Fernando made a move back to Mclaren in the next couple of years. But as with many of these propositions, it really depends on the form of the team at the time to justify making a switch (in Alonso's case) - and atm, I don't think Mclaren are nearly strong enough to convince Alonso to jump ship. Although teaming up with Button or Perez would likely be a easier pairing for him, rather than say Raikkonen at Ferrari or Vettel at Red Bull.

Alonso's always had a thing for Mclaren/Senna from what I've read and once said he would never dare drive for Ferrari (or something along those lines), so you have to wonder where his heart really lies. Although he may not want anything to do with Ron Dennis' mothership anymore

What would be cool would be to see both Hamilton and Alonso go back to Mclaren one day though :sly:

Too many assumptions being made...let's wait and see.

Hmm, not sure what the other drivers will think of that. Nasr seems decent but still need a lot of work and maturing.
