Except there's nothing ignorant about my statement. You completely missed what I was saying, even though the majority of the cars spotlighted in the commercial was the model in question....

Calling a person clueless without really knowing a person is indeed ignorant.

Sure the Miata isn't the only raced Mazda. But it's the most raced Mazda by FAR. RX's come after, then whatever FF...then the 787B

Except with the posts you've made in this thread, you've given me enough of a basis to form my opinion on....

First impressions are everything as they say. You've left a good one with everyone here.

Exactly. As said, for Mazda to make such a claim is based on the sole fact of how popular the Miata is in road racing; there are entire series devoted to it, in multiple continents.

I dont doubt that at all but the Miata itself I highly doubt is the most raced car. I will tell you the truth. I dont know for sure what the most raced car is but if I had to guess it would be the 911 or even the Mustang if you include drag racing.

They're not, esp. the Mustang.

What you're not taking into considering is the average track goer is not made of big bucks, racing 911s & Corvettes.

Mclaren, no sniping. You know the rules. Play nice, both of you.

You were bringing up 911s and what cars are considered cool. That has nothing to do with anything. It doesnt prove one bit that the Miata is more legendary or legendary at all. Double post. Oh well. I couldnt care any less.

You said that the Miata didn't change the way all cars were made. I cited cars that you and others have cited as legendary, and they didn't, either.

Again, if I'm answering your posts completely on-topic and my posts are irrelevant, what does that make yours? Wait for it... the answer will come to you...

And I do care about double posting, as should you, because if you are asked by a moderator to stop double posting, you are expected to do so or face infractions. Like this one.

I have been here for awhile. This is probably my first impression to you and thats it. I knew it was going to be 10 on 1 on this thread based on what the poll looked like when I first posted but at least I was willing to take the challenge. This is the first time I have been in the minority by such a huge margin. If not for me this thread would have been dead in the first day because how long can one really talk about how great the Miata is if that the only topic and not go against it. Not long because there is not allot great about it.

You were right about everything except the underlined. As you've cared to point to others, that is your opinion.

yeah there's not much great about Miatas. I really should sell mine for a Civic.

I wouldnt do that either even if my opinion is the civic is more legendary than the Miata. There are plenty of cars that I prefer over other cars that may be considered legendary. I would probably prefer the Miata over the Civic as well. I just find the Civic to be more historic and pretty close on popularity and both cars have pros and cons. The civic just has a bit more history and is imo the best compact tuner car.

You're entitled to your opinion.

I owned 2 del Sol's, an EG Civic EX, and a Honda Fit Sport. I used to love Honda. Then I got the Miata and I never want a FF car ever again in life. I prefer the tail sliding out than understeer. Sliding is satisfying whereas understeer is just frustrating as hell.

Absolutely agreed!!

Do you really expect that nobody will notice how you conveniently ignore all of the arguments posted against yours? It would be hilarious if it weren't so pathetic. Oh yes, calling everybody else ignorant when you stick your fingers in your ears when counterpoints are presented is certainly scoring you respect points.

Ya'll have lost your minds. I mean that in a friendly way, not being disrespectful, just a joke. Top 20 cars of all time!!! NO WAY! The only category this car is tops in is the budget roadster category. Legendary?? I just don't see it. When I think of Legendary I think Shelby Cobra, Corvette, Ferrari F40, Ferrari Daytona, GT40, Lamborghini Countach, The first BMW M3, Caterham 7, McLaren F1, 57 Chevy Bel Air, 71 Challenger etc etc. The list goes on and on. The Miata doesnt belong with these cars

I might not agree with all of those particular cars, but I do agree with the sentiment.

Although it's been around for a decent amount of time I wouldn't consider the MX5 legandary (or iconic).... yet.

I never changed qualifications just gave different examples.

I'd just like you to do the following:
Post a list of the criteria that a car needs to fulfill in order to be considered a legend by yourself.
Bear in mind, though, that a Civic has to qualify as well.

Good luck.

Well, my dictionary has it that for something to be legendary it has to be remarkable. I guess that rules Vauxhalls out then.:odd:

There are multiple combinations of criteria that can qualify a car as being legendary. Its not an exact science.

No, but it is an exact definition.

leg·end
noun \ˈle-jənd\
1
a : a story coming down from the past; especially : one popularly regarded as historical although not verifiable b : a body of such stories <a place in the legend of the frontier> c : a popular myth of recent origin

leg·end·ary
adj \ˈle-jən-ˌder-ē, -ˌde-rē\
Definition of LEGENDARY
1
: of, relating to, or characteristic of legend or a legend
2
: well-known, famous

Doesn't seem like it takes much to become legendary. Miatas are well-known and famous in the racing world. Joe Shmoe down the street has no idea what I'm driving, but he sure thinks I'm gay.

A story coming down from the past or historical. From what this definition says the car will definetely be legendary. Just not yet. Well known and famous, yes absolutely. Imo I dont think its old enough yet to be historical and there really isnt much of a story from the past, yet. Based on the definition yes the car will become legendary. Just not yet imo.

Taking the history of "the car" to be 1886 to the present day, the MX-5 has been in continuous production for 17.6% of the entire history of the car. The Model T managed 15.2%.

It's even more impressive (as is the T, as it happens, for similar reasons) when you consider that it first appeared at the end of an era of automotive technological stagnation - not a lot had really changed in mass-production cars since the 60s - and all it had was an engine, a manual gearbox, four wheels, a radio and quite a good heater, like pretty much everything else on the market. The car remained almost physically unchanged for 16 years, during which other cars became power-restricted, speed-limited, bloated, climate-controlled bundles of electronics wrapped in steel (or aluminium). 400hp and 200mph were insanity when the MX-5 came out - 1000hp and 250mph were daily-driveable at the end of the Mk2's cycle. And aside from a slightly better radio and a foldy-uppy-tin-top if you were so inclined, the MX-5 is little different today - after an eighth of the entire history of motorised personal transport has passed...

and there really isnt much of a story from the past, yet.

The story of its origins is quite interesting - it's quite a great deal more American (conceived by an American journalist, designed in California, unveiled in Chicago) and British (first rolling prototype built in the UK) than it is Japanese - and there's always the philosophy of Jinba ittai that underpins the car...

Don't they just look yummy? How can anyone say the Miata is not a great-looking car? Especially for being 20 years old.

Oh fuu--, not these bodykits, spoilers (as long as they don't making aerodynamics better) and stickers, they kills teh car!
