Great practice races tonight. Thanks for hosting RDAardvark!

And, no, I don't really want to talk about Cape Ring North. lol

Brilliant corner names! Think we could get a test session going some time Thursday? Say around 8 or 9ET?

Yeah I can probably make that.
I added you as holding a practice at that time on the OP. ;)
Might be too late for the folks in Europe, but anyone else going to be on at that time?

I did my best at naming the sections appropriately. LOL
(You realize if anyone has any major incidents, parts of the track may wind up being named for them. haha.)

Is it possible to run the first part in one division than hop over. My wifes B-Day is July 2, so I cant run this first one on that Saturday. However, from there onward Saturday is the best option for me.

Edit: Nevermind, read OP and saw its Casual
2nd Edit: I'll be signing up for Division Z for both parts since I'd like to run with the same folks consistently. Not settled on a color bit It wont be to glaring whatever I choose. Some version of brown, grey or black.

PSN: diabolicwyvern
Division Z
Color: TBD

Sure. Some more casual than others. :) (Me being probably too casual about practicing, but that's another story.)
I'm fine with however people can fit to their schedule. Real life is more important for sure. 👍 So if you want to do part 1 in one division and part 2 in another, that's fine - you wouldn't be the only one. Just let me know division & part.

Oops, see you've edited. I'll add.

I realize I am female, and an antique fan, and a paint chip geek, and a photomode nerd... But I hope I haven't given the impression I would freak out or go all girly, if someone painted their car in something garish. LOL ;) I think JLawrence is going to go with a rather snazzy orange (though not gaudy, of course), and I'd be delighted if someone signed up with a gold chrome (or equally bizarre)... or snoopykuan signed up with a matte pink Spitfire. haha. (Actually I'd take great pleasure in that last possibility, as a matter of fact. lol)
So don't go drab on my account! :D
Though your fellow racer CC570 has the most lovely drab paint I've ever seen on his Spitfire. MAPLE. Very appropriate for the time period. Quite attractive on this car. (Photomodes very well. :embarrassed:)
I have a metallic type of brown colour paint chip that I would be willing to part with to someone who planned to use it on a Spitfire. :)

Haha, I love the corner names. I agree though, the lasting names will be the ones that are given just after epic wipeouts. My favorite name is "The Come On." That is exactly what I was thinking when I was practicing there.

Just curious, how did you make the map?

So far I haven't done the track with anyone with a mic... But as soon as I tried the track, I could just imagine hearing, "COME OOOOOONNN!!" when someone's straining the 108hp to lug the rear biased ballast up that hill. hahaha.

The short answer is Photoshop. The long answer is - professional graphic designer, but definitely not my best work! lol
Slapped it together after print screen copy/pasting the track map outline from GT5 My HOME on gran-turismo.com.

But I wasn't really worried about being too neat, as I already have visions of editing...

Perhaps adding this to some part of the track at some point:

THATS what I was after. I didn't know it showed them there. Thanks for the info.

Turn one on Mt Topmore should perhaps be called Aardvark's Demise.

...or Revenge of the Melon!!!

Great turn though as you really don't want to be too slow coming out of it onto that slight incline (!) but you can't take too much of a chance of taking it too fast - well, not in a spitfire anyway!

Hope to make a few of the practice sessions - does it help if I let you know or can I just drop in whenever?

I think me & my spitfire need to spend some quality time alone together before we are seen together in public.:ouch:

I just thought it would be helpful to post if people have any general plans for practicing, because the more people who can get together at the same time, the better of course. But nothing wrong with just dropping in!
But if you're planning to practice, do share!

hahaha. I feel like that too... Except, if it's not for other people forcing me, I probably wouldn't practice Cape Ring North at all.

I hate Cape Ring North in the Spitfire. I grudgingly included it, because in the poll I sent out, people rated it generally high, some quite high. I'm assuming now that those who rated it high had not first tried the car out on this track. hahaha.
I know RDAardvark's going to have a field day with this one, but I'm adding ballast for that track. And I don't mean just biasing it to the restriction, having reduced it under stock weight. I mean all out I'm putting a couple bags of cat litter in the boot for Cape Ring North.
I think I put it up to 860kg, and I took a second off my lap time.
Though I still can't go 95mph on the Circle like I saw IMZIZ doing in a replay from last night!!

heh... The slow-maker turn on Mount TopMore, I don't often wipe out on it... But then, I don't always get through it fast enough!! Though whatever way you manage to do it wrong, it's going to jack up your lap time. It makes you slow!
I go with erring on the side of too slow but not spinning out, because spinning out is definitely slower than just too slow.

:D

Jujubean
I will probably be up for some practicing tonight around 11:00 EST, if anyone wants to join.

I expect I'll be on about 1 hour after that if you're still around.

I'm very pleased to announce that today,
Mount TopMore was referred to as,
"some ridiculous custom track".
MountTopMore07.jpg

My mission has been accomplished!!! :D
That's exactly what I was going for!

I hope everyone's enjoying it as much as I am.
Of course it could be that no one enjoys a good laugh quite like I do. :embarrassed:)

Of course, if you really want a ridiculous custom track, I have a couple of standard size eifel tracks with multiple consecutive off-camber turns. Those tracks make Mount TopMore look like Suzuka East. haha

Here are some photos from last night's practice races.

Jujubean started improving massively on Eiger once he started thinking about Sally Field in her 3rd season & 3rd trimester as Sister Bertrille. :D
For me, Cape Ring North is a little more like Agnes of God. :(

Never gaudy orange ;)

And I will be sure to have my mic on for Thursdays practice just to give your comeeee onnnn straight a legit feel.
I'm pretty stoked to try that one out!

Major change of tactics from me. Colour will now be sunset pearlescent (that's yellow in English) I am convinced this will knock several seconds off my lap times

LOL
I don't know, judging by the last Spitfire Championship, I'd be going with red or black, as those seem to be the fastest colours for Spitfires. hahahaha

FYI: I have made a "main page" ad post for the Vintage Car Race Club here:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=209408

Also, I posted some photos from an impromptu race we had on Trial Mountain during practicing last night:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5474360#post5474360

Mainly I wanted to demonstrate why I didn't consider Trial Mountain a viable track for this championship. LOL
I used to think the whole "online physics" claim - that things were different online (as compared to practice with the same settings)... I thought it was a myth or people were nuts, because I never had to change my tuning for online - other than for stability in the event of contact purposes. Until I tried the Spitfire and Alpines, on Trial Mountain online, as compared with Practice w/ same settings. They just go wild online on Trial Mountain. And then I found people on the forum reporting the same thing on this track (Trial Mountain) with these cars (Spitfire & Alpines).

That said, it is fun. But wild enough that I thought I didn't want the possibility of watching replays a million times over for car contact reports. LOL Because car contact is not only likely on Trial Mountain, it's guaranteed!
I consider myself to be a fairly conservative clean racer... But it's like it's out of my hands once I'm on Trial Mountain in a Spitfire.

And we need a do-over for the Indy Super Speedway practice last night. We all got separated & lost the draft between... someone took off ahead of me, someone went off track behind me, and I got left lonely in the middle needing a personal pit stop. LOL I get too tense on ovals. :nervous:
And the Spitfire is a bit of a handful on the ovals. Swerving is often a possibility. At least in my case. :( Especially when I overcook the tires on the start. :ouch:
I'm wondering if we should do a rolling start instead of grid start for the Indy Super Speedway race. I know that's a popular (and perhaps more sane) choice. If anyone has any thoughts on this, pipe up.

Today I had a short practice with IMZIZ, and I was able to beat him on a 3-lap race on Eiger with the rain starting to clear up, because I'd already been practicing on the track a little while, & I caught him off guard when he 1st signed on, before he had a chance to warm up & calibrate his instruments. LOL It's a strategy I use when I can get it! :sly: By the 2nd race, my advantage was gone! haha

I would definitely be up for a rolling start on Indy. Thats probably more realistic too, though I have never witnessed a real a one make race of Spitfires on Indy... or anywhere.

Wish I'd seen your post earlier. Just painted my car a beautiful Racing Yellow.
Ah well. :)

Wat sign me up

Division X
Maybe Y and Z

TO ALL INVOLVED:
PART 2, RACE 5, Indy Super Speedway.

ROLLING START?
or
GRID START?

State your preference, please.
I'd like to have some consensus.
All the races otherwise are regular grid start, fyi.

Yes, I'm almost positive NASCAR has rolling starts on ovals. Of course I think it's for safety reasons, since they cram something like 50 stock cars onto the track. haha But I think it just makes sense in general. And I, for one, would rather not start the race by lighting up my tires & having them hot at the start right off the bat, as I often do in this car. haha.

One banana, two bananas...

In Division Y, Part 1, there will be *** 3 bananas ***. :D
I will enjoy remarking upon the subtle differences in shades. haha!

I've just been noticing how when I take photomode photos, I often start with pictures with my car out in front... and then of course I never actually win the races. LOL I think I like to relive the glory of those few precious seconds that I'm ahead of another car... before I drop to last place by the finish line!

A rolling start will be better and we can all start drafting earlier!

Perhaps add a poll to the thread for this?

I'll admit that a rolling start makes more sense in racing generally for a Super Speedway track.

Well good, it looks like there's likely not going to be many naysayers. So unless a bunch of people suddenly pipe up railing against the idea, I believe we will go with rolling start @ Indy.

You know I'm not sure, but I think you can't add a poll to an already existing thread. I have to look into that.

Next pre-scheduled practice is slated to begin soon!!

22 June - New York: Wed 4:00pm - EDT / London Wed 9pm - BST/GMT+1

RDAardvark will be the host.

I may be a tad late... But I plan on being there. :)
