Triumph Spitfire Series #2

I've updated the Mount TopMore track map :D

MountTopMore07.jpg

I had waaaaaaay too much coffee today.

Photomodes from awesome mad practice races today:

CC570 (maple), englinge (yellow), jackargent (yellow), watermelon (green)

CC570 (maple) & jackargent (yellow)
Though the only reason I know that's jackargent was because I was paying attention during the replays.
Otherwise, I can't tell the Bananas apart. LOL

From the heavy rain fixed race on Eiger... which was quite hilarious
I was laughing so hard during this race, I'm surprised I stayed on the track at all.

banana sandwich anyone?

The Sofa Drivers counter-steering in unison
Oh... sorry, wrong race series. LOL

sofa drivers take flight! (we should start a synchronized driving team already lol)

Very attractive green helmet, CC! :D
I think my car looks rather like a frog sometimes. :)

20110622spitfire13s.jpg

there I am thinking I could utilize CC570's draft

there I am choking under wild counter-steering necessitated by said draft

CC570 finding the Circle on Cape Ring North to be no problem at all apparently!

20110622spitfire16s.jpg

me, white knuckled, trying to not create a contact incident as RDAardvark passes me on the Circle

In retrospect, a great deal of coffee may not be good when combined with allergy medication. :ouch: Earlier, at Low HP League test races, I was trying out a different car, and I was all over the road sliding into CC570 repeatedly & grass mowing. :guilty: Then I was having trouble keeping the Spitfire settled, more than usual.
After watching the replays, I promise to clean up my act more. I thought I did a good job of not rear-ending anyone on Eiger though! But I was pretty squirrelly with the counter-steering in the rain. I get a little enthusiastic there. haha
That one race in full rain was positively outrageous. I heard someone else laughing on the mic, so clearly I think I wasn't alone.

Cape Ring North... *sigh*

Excellent pictures once again Watermelon! There's one I want to add of us on Eiger, I'll try and get it later on today.

It really was an enjoyable practise and I'm blaming a lack of coffee and the late hour on my many, many spins! :-)

Driving in the wet was an experience and shows up my lack of skill on such a surface. You were excellent watermelon. I'll be watching the replays to see what tips I can pick up. Or is it all down to ballast? Perhaps a bit more wouldn't hurt in the wet. And certainly drafting in the wet at Eiger is a no-no, unless you like your banana's well stirred.

One thing I did notice was I kept being caught out on what I thought was a drying track but then found it was soaking wet. Seems GT5 doesn't show my spray in the rear view mirror, so it was only after I'd spun and someone passed me could I see their spray! Guess I need a lighter right foot as well!

I'm going to have to cancel my practise session tonight. I've got work to do but I'll hopefully be back on on friday. If you see me online, I'll either be practising the spitfire in my lounge or my cappuccino in an open room.

See you online soon!

p.s. It is very confusing with the two yellow spitfires. Shame you can't do a custom stripe up it or make it two-tone.

Great pictures melon:-) & a really fun practice... The rainy races were a hoot.

I am massively honoured to have a bend named after me on mount topmore. Presumably that puts me up there with the greats like schumacher & gambon!

Elginge is right... There is too much yellow so I am going to change again... To raspberry red pearlescent. That'll stand out from the crowd.

Hopefully be on tonight... Will it be raining again?

"every time it rains, it gains seconds for melon"

I was just re-reading the original post again and I'd forgotten that watermelon had called the first round 'Part 1: The Fun Tour'. What definition of 'fun' does Eiger in the wet come under? Some serious practice is required if I'm to make it round 18 laps!

18 laps!!!

Imagine the state of the poor wee cars after 18 laps sliding into barriers!

The track should be called eider duckswam

This looks pretty gd

It IS pretty good. :)
But I don't know what you mean... do you want to sign up? If so, more details needed. :)

......................................

NOTE: RDAardvark had to cancel his practice today @ 4pm EDT/9pm BST.
And I can't make it. But I'll be on later.

But if anyone wants to host a practice today, just post here.

Otherwise, next scheduled practice in about 4-1/2 hours:

23 June - New York: Thurs 8:00pm EDT / London Fri 1:00am BST/GMT+1
practice session

RE: The Fun Tour
Well, personally I don't find Cape Ring North fun at all!!! LOL I find it positively horrid.
Actually I thought about naming it "The Funny Tour"... But then I thought "Fun Tour" should be enough. Funny might not sound quite right... as sometimes humour is subtle & can get lost in translations. But "funny" was the general idea... in that the tracks are rather humourous.
And I know I'm not the only one who was laughing during the Eiger heavy rain race yesterday!!! It IS rather funny!! And I'll admit, it's kind of funny too the way I have to gingerly pitter patter around the Circle on Cape Ring North.

RE: Eiger in the rain
"every time it rains, it gains seconds for melon"
LOL it's true. The heavier the rain, the better I do!!!
I don't think it's my set-up at all, since no matter how I change my tuning settings, for the other tracks, I always just do better on Eiger when it's raining - as opposed to when it's not.
So my guess is that it's all the practice I've had on Eiger rain. And I think I'm a little more patient about going slow than the average gt5 driver.

Also, when the track at Eiger is drying out, with the sun coming out bright, it can look deceptive. It may take much longer to dry out than you will realize. Even after the spray is gone around the cars, and even after the track looks the same as the regular dry sunny track... it may still be just slightly wet.

And yes, spray and smoke do not show in the rear view mirror!!
I never know how often I have a poof of smoke behind my car until I watch replays. haha
It's better to just "feel" the road, than try to look for visual cues to let you know the condition of the wetness on the track. At least that's my guess.

:D I thought you might enjoy that. (You seem to get my sense of humour, after all, which is cool. Not everyone does! LOL)
I just happened to notice you often have a poof of smoke about your car whenever you're in that section. ;) So yes, you are now up there with Gambon! GAMBON!!!

Elginge is right... There is too much yellow so I am going to change again... To raspberry red pearlescent. That'll stand out from the crowd.

Well, that's just as well then, because Aceboy127 showed up at practice tonight with a yellow Spitfire. haha. Seems everyone wants a yellow one.

We'll have a whole picnic breakfast eventually. Maple, pimento, egg, bananas, raspberry, orange, melon...
(Though I'm not sure how tasty robin's eggs are. I think cats enjoy them. :dopey: Though our cats like to eat stuff that I'd rather not even look at too long. :yuck:)

I love this:

How about the Schwimmwagen?
schwimmwagen04.jpg

You do realize I'm planning a Schwimmwagen race next, right? heehee. Schwimmwagens on Mount TopMore, and Le Mans in the rain at night.
You think I'm kidding... But you know, I'm pretty geeky & I'm just itching for a race to show off the new helmet & racing suit. hahahahaha

I would like to throw my Spitfire into the ring if you have room for another!

GTP name: GTsail290
PSN name: gtsail290
Spitfire color: WR Blue Mica
Division Y: parts 1 and 2 and maybe another Division if I can fit it into my schedule.

Perhaps with enough Spitfires it will stop raining at Eiger Nordwand:D

Thanks
GTsail

Are we still on for practice tonight? & is it still the "fun" tracks?

Oh, & by luck this will nicely bump the thread!

Short, but interesting practice yesterday...

GTsail290 (red), aokiji85 (black), wat3rm370n (green), aceboy127 (yellow)

20110623spitfire01s.jpg

here is aceboy127 winding wide on the 1st turn...
was he told about the elderly nun slalom at the 1st turn? ;)

In a practice race, I was close behind aokiji85 & aceboy127 on the 1st lap... I watched them enter the tunnel appearing as if they were trying to occupy the same space at the same time... And when they came out the other side, aokiji85's car was somewhat smooshed in the front side, and aceboy127's car looked like it had been up a chimney.
20110623spitfire02s.jpg

As it turned out, aceboy127 was not actually seeing aokiji85 during the race,
and I'm not 100% sure aokiji85 was able to see aceboy127.

So this is why on race day, there will be a "Vision Check", where all will need to confirm that they can see everyone else listed on the track.
I think it's a good idea, with the state of PSN these days, that everyone reboots, clears cache, and perhaps does some sort of ritual dance before entering the lounge for the race event.
I've been noticing a lot of connection issues & the invisible car problem more often of late.

I'm going to host a practice today/tonight.
I hope to open my lounge to start practicing
approximately @:
Fri 5:30pm EDT / Fri 10:30pm BST/GMT+1

mostly part 1 tracks, I think
probably should hit Cape Ring North a bit more :(

@jackargent: we seem to be synchronized again... Is someone tipping you off on my movements? hahaha. ;)

Should be off from work @ 6:00 Eastern today - I will pop in for some practice thereafter. Mainly, I think, I'll be hoping that I am not having network issues as yesterday.

Tomorrow will be the first time I can practice since everyone this week has occurred during my work hours

Let's hope nobody has any connection issues today... or any day for that matter!
Yesterday was really quite awful with the problems.

Just as a reminder... anyone, at any time, is welcome to host & post any practices, pre-planned or impromptu, to invite other interested parties.

Just make sure you set the restrictions to what they will be for the event, in the lounge you create.

108hp / 810kg
Sports Soft Tires
Skid Recovery Force OFF (aid disallowed)
Grip: real
Penalties: Weak
Damage: Off
Boost: Off

Not trying to be a hassle, but it's important regarding knowing where the penalties are on Cape Ring North, and because there will be no damage on during the actual race events... And track grip real makes a ginormous difference particularly on Eiger in the rain.
And the hp restriction may be important for those still breaking in the engine on their Spit, since some people got the car as a prize with 0miles and haven't used it before this series. It may be helpful for them to know when their hp goes up.
(Not to mention, you want to have fair practice races, obviously.)

Also, when you set the restriction @ 108hp... I noticed occasionally that it allowed me to have the hp @ 109hp. Probably a tiny difference. But the restriction should be set to 108hp, and everyone should feel justly to have their hp at the maximum allowed under the restriction. đź‘Ť

@ ID_racing : as our friend turbogeit says, "BE WELCOME!" :D
You are welcome whenever you can!
(I'm still feeling disappointed you were dialed out of the event schedule, yet again. So I would be ever so pleased if you were to participate in our practice races.)

@ diabolicwyvern : look forward to studying your sector times... erm, I mean look forward to seeing you on the track. LOL ;)
Scheduling seems our most difficult task with the vintage niche interests, which tend to attract a limited amount of participants, spread across many time zones.
If you have any practice time suggestions from here on out, feel free to suggest a practice time yourself... and I and others may be interested in joining you.

For myself, I have trouble playing gt5 "on the fly" as I share a ps3 with bender2011/miata_1, and when he's around and using the ps3, my way of vying for time on the ps3 is to say I have a scheduled race or scheduled practice. ;)

As of right now, but B spec brigade is about halfway through the Laguna Seca endurance, but I will try to make it to practice after they finish.

Thanks ! turbo nails it everytime.
Concerning connection issues. I dont know how your procedure is, but we found out in WSCC, that connection issues were minimized, if:

everyone clears their cache before entering the lounge especially the loungeowner.
Noone uses a mic. Reduces lag.
Roomsettings are set to "normal".

Check for invisabel pariticipants before qualifying. Do a count.
Everyone needs to have a NAT2 connection (at least) and UPnP allowed.

ok..now where did I put that car??..hmm..

Normal?
I usually set it to "high", and mic to "low".
But I may consider disabling mics altogether for the race, if that might help stabilize the connections for all.

Though in practices, I think it's nice if people can use mics to communicate easily. I had mic at "normal" yesterday, I think... Perhaps that was a problem. However we were having a problem with the mics in the lobby room @ 1st, so the mic issue began before entering my lounge with my lounge settings.

I don't use a mic myself & I usually hook up a keyboard, so it doesn't matter to me.
The funny thing the other day at practice... I could hear RDAardvark type in messages - I could hear the keyboard click... better than I could hear his voice speaking!! LOL
(We were in his lounge, and I do not know what his settings were.)

I hesitate to ever practice in an open lobby fyi for the following reasons:
1) non-participating parties joining (strangers who may disrupt)
2) some people claim public lobby "feels different" than lounge

I also make a practice of always clearing the cache before entering any lounge or lobby, my own or that of others, as a prophylactic measure. I highly recommend this for all.

I have never experienced "invisible cars" myself. But bender2011/miata_1, who we share the ps3... He never had "invisible cars", but once had a problem with "black screen" in Fun Racers, when he forgot to clear the cache before entering.

NOTE: OPENING MY LOUNGE FOR PRACTICE IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES
(approx 5:30pm EDT / 10:30pm BST)

Great fun tonight... Managed to stay on the track for a fair proportion of the time... Looking forward to the races... Feel I'm beginning to really get to know the car.

Good practice today.

Great fun tonight... Managed to stay on the track for a fair proportion of the time... Looking forward to the races... Feel I'm beginning to really get to know the car.

Admit it, it's the colour. And that's why you're making all your cars that colour now. Your BMW M5, your RM Golf, your Spitfire... How many I-Mievs have you purchased?? LOL
(That said, my BMW 135i & my Suzuki Kei Works are both that colour. And 2 I-Miev's.)

Now seeing ID_Racing's car in what I believe is the same colour "maple" as CC570's... I'm thinking the Spitfire actually comes in maple! I've never gotten a maple one! Just the nice green & topaz.

And yes, I have found a more magical tune for the Spitfire on Cape Ring North's blasted Circle section... But no, I'm not going to stop "moaning" because it's still a hateful place. haha.

Great practice tonight... and I can see I really have my work cut out for me even still on Mount Topmore. After starting with the wrong tires, though, what can you do? I did manage to gain almost 2 seconds on the lead during lap 4, but couldn't keep my car on track through that blasted first turn.

Guess what I'll be practicing when I get time?

It was nice to see us have so many people on the track for a practice session. The real races should get quite heated from what I can tell.

I had fun today as well. Unfortunately that was the last practice I'm likely to get before the actual events because I will be out of town. I may actually not be back in time for the first event of division Z. I will do my best to get there, but if not I will just participate in the second events of everything. Hopefully we can get the same group to continue to participate in events in the Future. In addition to my up and coming Rally Series, I was thinking we could maybe get a weekly series going, maybe taking what we learn about 'classes' in my rally events. I think it would be fun to have a series similar to what Watermelon has done with these Spitfire events, but allow multiple makes and models (all relatively low power though).

As usual, I watched replays & entered photomode...
I really love the look of the Spitfire... but I take it everyone already has come to that conclusion. haha.

gtsail290 (wr blue mica), Jujubean (robin's egg blue), IMZIZ (pimento red),
jackargent (raspberry red pearl), wat3rm370n (salvia green), ID_Racing (maple?)

Here is our 1st corner elderly grandma slalom on each track:

Cape Ring North (a.k.a. Cape Circle of Hell - yes, I'm still moaning)

The races might be heated... But it seems we still have some almost eerily cool 1st corners!
I feel like we all race the Spitfires like they are our own real restored beauties. hahaha.

Note: I have noticed a tendency sometimes to favour Jujubean's car in photomodes... I'm not doing it consciously - I only ever notice it later. I guess I just really like the colour. :embarrassed:)

Interesting you should say that Jujubean, since I already had an idea I've been working on for quite some time now for a multi-make race.
There are some cars, of course, that are hard to fit in & group with other cars even if you should be able to. The Spitfire is one of them, which is why I went 1-make. But I've been wanting to put all manner of the low hp vintage cars into some kind of race series.
You will find my idea for Vintage Surprise in the club forum, fyi. It's in the offing for the somewhat later future, because of my summer schedule and the fact I think there's a couple of other series going to come together sooner rather than later, after the Spitfire is complete.

Thanks for letting me join in! :) lots of fun at Eiger, and yes my car is in an original colour, Maple. Topmore was bit of a handful, not because of the track (hehe) but the night (here) was taking its toll..and I saw my car being notably slower on the straight than yours. Are you all using power limiters or were my settings just horrible..who knows, its a car that needs a lot of finetuning to perform well, but it sure was fun getting to drive it!
