Man, people are getting their hopes up... Expect a few cars, maybe a race or two. Possibly some much needed bug fixes. April's "big" update was a paltry few races and a few cars. Expect the same (or worse) and you won't be let down when the IB/IA/S license content doesn't show up, Sport mode is still woefully inadequate compared to its GT Sport analogue, and there's no new circuits. That stuff will come when they re-launch the game as "Spec II" 18mo from now, if we're lucky.

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Gran Turismo 7’s Next Update is Coming Next Week, Adds Toyota GR010 Hypercar

Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that a new content update will be coming for Gran Turismo 7 during the week beginning May 23...
That's nice and all but when will we be able to sell excess cars and have the ability to remove parts to adjust PP? Many of the cars I have can't be used in some races because the PP is too high. The car variety is still horrible. There's fewer tracks. I don't know the game just feels like it went out the door unfinished.

Remember to account for cars that were made in the Prologue/GT5/GT6 era. Some are slightly updated while some are almost identical. Either way, they are not all being made from zero.

The GT8 engine.... For PS6? Why is there a need for a new game engine?
They'll probably re-use the same engine as GT7 with some physics/lighting tweaks, you're right. What they are getting at is the majority of a studio transitions to the next project once a game launches. GT8 (or whatever is coming next) is most certainly in development by the majority of the studio at this point. Maybe 10-20% of the devs are working on 7's post-launch support, but much of that support (like car modeling) is being done for both GT7 and GT8.

There are three big reasons to believe we'll see another GT game (assuming there is another one...) on PS5:

1) Global silicon shortages are still keeping PS5's out of would-be buyers' hands. PS5 has been out for 18+mo, but it's barely even launched at this point for the majority of consumers. All signs are pointing to global supply issues getting worse before they get better, so I wouldn't anticipate it easing any time soon. In that same vein, rising inflation/energy costs, fuel/fertilizer/food/housing shortages are all taking their toll on the average person, so luxury spending will be dropping (if it already hasn't)
Sony/MS won't be rushing to launch a new console amid these economic conditions.

2) PS5 will have a longer exclusive life than PS4 did. When PS4/XBone (whatever gen that is, 7th gen console?) launched they were already trailing gaming PC tech/specs by a large margin. PC already had games in 4k with a 60fps norm and we'd only see upscaled "checkerboard" 4k with the mid-cycle refreshes in the Pro/One X 3-4 years after launch of the original consoles, and even then most games that were in "4k" were 30fps locked. The current gen consoles are on much more stable ground vs PC with this generation compared to the chasm that separated console and PC performance last gen. PC is still out in front in terms of power/ability (assuming you can get your hands on a 30-series Nvidia card) but 4k/60fps/ray-tracing is still relevant in the PC world, and the new consoles can mostly deliver on these standards as well.

3) GT7 is hands-down the worst received GT game in its 25 year history, and even this far post-launch the only press/coverage it gets is negative, but even worse than negative coverage is no coverage at all, and if you check Youtube, etc most reviews/commentary on the game are weeks/months old. Seeing a franchise of this caliber get so little attention less than 3mo post-launch is a very bad sign, especially for a game that seems to be a live-service. If there has ever been a time where Kaz/PD will want to quickly move on to the next project to start anew, this is that time. Unless there is a massive amount of content PD plans to release in order to save GT7 that they are currently working on (I don't think it's likely) we'll probably see paltry drip-feed support of GT7 for the next year or two followed by the announcement of GT8, maybe even within the period that GT7 is still seeing some support. I could absolutely see them cutting their loses on GT7 (in reputation; they've made a LOT of money) and completely pivoting to the next project in order to get it out sooner. We've seen PD launch games later/at the very end of a consoles' life (GT2, GT4, and especially GT6) so GT8 on PS5 is very likely.

Wow, that ended up being far longer than I intended... Should be sleeping but my Ambien is just making me ramble instead of snore, lol. Hate these nights as I always end up taking another dose and then wake up on the sofa, (if I'm lucky) kitchen/bathroom floor if it comes on too quick. Can't believe Ambien is still on the market; makes you do weird things and when it puts you to sleep its like getting hit with a tranq dart in a Metal Gear Solid game, lol. Will drop you where you stand!

Since PD adds the Toyota Le Mans hypercar, I hope they consider bringing the new Peugeot 9x8. This thing is incredible both on paper and in pictures.

Remove some parts, power limit, add weight. Plenty of ways to reduce PP.

I've been holding on to a 5 and a 6-star ticket. Hopefully after the update i'll get goodies. (these are the only good cards i got since last update, mostly 2 and 3 stars)

That bottom left considering no one has figured it out yet and can’t seem to find a matching car. It’s either a VGT or a new car that’s yet to be revealed irl.

You can remove many parts in the car set-up menu to reduce PP. Plus you can add ballast or reduce power (with restrictor or ECU) to adjust PP.

Unless they have somehow managed to be unprepared programmatically to expand the races, it should be very easy to implement/setup new races/combos.

I would be really happy if only they added more races, different classes per track, etc - more or less what arcade does but with a sense of fulfillment like challenges - and with the corresponding car prizes. BoP/stock races for us that don’t want to mess to much with the settings. Same class races, combined class races, standing start races.

Real races, please, with qualification rounds - although the whole philosophy of gt contradicts this, so I wouldn’t expect this kind of races to appear any time soon (if ever).

Also, please, long endurance races
Like the good oldies - 1000km Suzuka, 4h + 9h endurances… 24h I’d like with a save/pillow after 8h.

I think Alpine is possible since it has pretty nice spectrum of cars in GT7. Hope we will get more HY cars.
There’s not much point having the Alpine as it’s the last year of competition for that model. The real Alpine Hypercar will arrive in ‘24.

I do think there’s a very real chance we will have the Porsche Hypercar soon. Given the brand links with PD. On the GT front the C6.R, and it’s road going equivalent, are the most obvious future additions.

I’m really getting my hopes up for a new circuit. And by new I don’t specifically mean new to the series. I’m hoping Apricot Hill or Grand Valley!!

Just to weigh in on the mystery car. I don’t ever remember PD teasing a VGT car in the silhouettes before so IMO that possibility is out (I’m sure someone on here will correct me though! 😂). It looks to me like some form of Ferrari SP type model - doesn’t look like the windscreen has any pillars!

I realy hope they bring back the BOOST and STRONG SLIPSTREAM effect like in GTS in online sessions. The Boost and strong slipstream in GTS was so much fun, that when you fall back by a spin, you could still catch up and win. We are always doing a 10 laps fun race on Monza (No Chicane) with this setting. And you never know who wins! It's so much fun! But the GT7 settings are terrible! It's like there is no boost!

Speaking about Online, I hope that fix the complete online section, just copy/paste the GTS one! De PP points don't work! N100 - N1000 was a much better concept in my opinion....
