They'll probably re-use the same engine as GT7 with some physics/lighting tweaks, you're right. What they are getting at is the majority of a studio transitions to the next project once a game launches. GT8 (or whatever is coming next) is most certainly in development by the majority of the studio at this point. Maybe 10-20% of the devs are working on 7's post-launch support, but much of that support (like car modeling) is being done for both GT7 and GT8.

There are three big reasons to believe we'll see another GT game (assuming there is another one...) on PS5:

1) Global silicon shortages are still keeping PS5's out of would-be buyers' hands. PS5 has been out for 18+mo, but it's barely even launched at this point for the majority of consumers. All signs are pointing to global supply issues getting worse before they get better, so I wouldn't anticipate it easing any time soon. In that same vein, rising inflation/energy costs, fuel/fertilizer/food/housing shortages are all taking their toll on the average person, so luxury spending will be dropping (if it already hasn't)
Sony/MS won't be rushing to launch a new console amid these economic conditions.

2) PS5 will have a longer exclusive life than PS4 did. When PS4/XBone (whatever gen that is, 7th gen console?) launched they were already trailing gaming PC tech/specs by a large margin. PC already had games in 4k with a 60fps norm and we'd only see upscaled "checkerboard" 4k with the mid-cycle refreshes in the Pro/One X 3-4 years after launch of the original consoles, and even then most games that were in "4k" were 30fps locked. The current gen consoles are on much more stable ground vs PC with this generation compared to the chasm that separated console and PC performance last gen. PC is still out in front in terms of power/ability (assuming you can get your hands on a 30-series Nvidia card) but 4k/60fps/ray-tracing is still relevant in the PC world, and the new consoles can mostly deliver on these standards as well.

3) GT7 is hands-down the worst received GT game in its 25 year history, and even this far post-launch the only press/coverage it gets is negative, but even worse than negative coverage is no coverage at all, and if you check Youtube, etc most reviews/commentary on the game are weeks/months old. Seeing a franchise of this caliber get so little attention less than 3mo post-launch is a very bad sign, especially for a game that seems to be a live-service. If there has ever been a time where Kaz/PD will want to quickly move on to the next project to start anew, this is that time. Unless there is a massive amount of content PD plans to release in order to save GT7 that they are currently working on (I don't think it's likely) we'll probably see paltry drip-feed support of GT7 for the next year or two followed by the announcement of GT8, maybe even within the period that GT7 is still seeing some support. I could absolutely see them cutting their loses on GT7 (in reputation; they've made a LOT of money) and completely pivoting to the next project in order to get it out sooner. We've seen PD launch games later/at the very end of a consoles' life (GT2, GT4, and especially GT6) so GT8 on PS5 is very likely.

Wow, that ended up being far longer than I intended... Should be sleeping but my Ambien is just making me ramble instead of snore, lol. Hate these nights as I always end up taking another dose and then wake up on the sofa, (if I'm lucky) kitchen/bathroom floor if it comes on too quick. Can't believe Ambien is still on the market; makes you do weird things and when it puts you to sleep its like getting hit with a tranq dart in a Metal Gear Solid game, lol. Will drop you where you stand!
I will say it again... They claim 300 people.

Given that they are reusing so much, and that the iteration from GTS to GT7 is barely what one would expect from an annual release, much less that it has been 5 years, what are they doing?

GT5 needed a new engine for Ps3 and it had a ton of high res cars, and game play content.

GT6 was half intended for PS4 and they claim that the engine was updated to be PS4 ready. But, it had less overall than GT5.

GTS didn't even have single player at launch.

Now, five years later, we have GT7 which is a barely updated version of GTS, but certainly not a 300 person game.

So, are you suggesting, that 300 people have been working on GT8 since the launch of GTS in 2017, with the knowledge that their game will see the light of day, potentially, in 2025/2026? Are you suggesting that 240 people (80% of the team, with the other 20% on live development) are working for 8 or 9 years on GT8?

GT8 would have to be the most epic racing game ever created.

Maybe they should have worked on this one instead.

I think if the third car is this unrecognizable, it's probably something that most people are not looking for and will forget five minutes after it's been released.
That’s easily fixed if it’s a gr4/3 car. Just make it op 😂
People will be talking about it every week.

just gotta point out how unbelievably unprofessional this company is. this isn’t like some mom and pop business, or a non-profit foundation.

The idea that we could be 36 hours removed from an announced update, having received no information from the official channels… it’s just absurd. For those who (correctly) do not go on Twitter dot com, they’re just in the dark completely.

It’s not a question of people being impatient, or asking for too much. This wouldn’t fly for any product I purchase that claims it is offering me a live service. It certainly wouldn’t pass with any real-world business clients I’ve ever had.
Assuming non-profits are 'unprofessional' is a bit obtuse, but okay. 🤔

I definitely agree they're getting the 'live service' direction completely wrong so far though. There needs to be mountains worth of more communication, yearly AND monthly.

Not talking about game decisions, nor contents. But performance-wise and problems within the online side of the game which includes lobbies and Sport mode? yes, of course, PS4 bottlenecks a lot.
Personally, I still disagree. The performance issues could be solved by lowering the resolution a little, but instead they wanted native 4k. The PS3 games and ps4 pro version of sport also had similar issues, it has to do with the priorities PD have which seem to be image quality over stability, that's on them.

As for the online, they still haven't managed to bring GT7 on par with Sport, I don't think this has anything to do with the ps4 holding anything back.

Not for lack of professionalism - I just meant to say that I don’t expect certain organizations to prioritize communicating at the same level as their service. If a charitable organization with a reputation of good work ‘goes dark’ or has some issues, I’m not going to get upset.

Meanwhile, we’ve now had another tweet from the games producer that I’ve got to load into translate.google that may or may not be explaining a feature for the game (update: it is an esports competition for Japanese prefectures). The main account for the game has posted another Interaction Farm, about a race course with an old layout. There is 0 on the game pages themselves. Hope they get some cool videos for commercials this week

You can remove many parts in the car set-up menu to reduce PP. Plus you can add ballast or reduce power (with restrictor or ECU) to adjust PP.
Yeah, I know that. I play the game. Lol! But often it's not enough. Besides, that's not the point. I should be able to remove parts from the car. Just like in real life.

I just want more events to use my low legendary (and expensive!) PP cars, with a decent payout - of course! Today, we just have 4 tracks that pay decently, basically for GR cars.

AND, a dynamic hud for cockpit view! Ok, I need to know the weather conditions, the condition of the tires, about the gas. But I don't need it all the time and I don't want to pause to take it off the screen! Please, let me press a button and have the information (or not!).

That's nice and all but when will we be able to sell excess cars and have the ability to remove parts to adjust PP? Many of the cars I have can't be used in some races because the PP is too high. The car variety is still horrible. There's fewer tracks. I don't know the game just feels like it went out the door unfinished.
That's because it was unfinished; we can debate whether it was intentional or they just ran out of time, but the game is 100% not finished... They left proof in that we have the IB/IA/S license tests, yet we don't have any of the content. That's why "career" mode feels so "thin" with so little to do, because all of the best races fall under the three higher-tier licenses we don't have the content for.

As far as removing parts, you can remove anything that is "bolt-on": turbo's, super chargers, intercoolers, exhaust, air filter, manifold, and ECU/computer's. All of the transmissions/brake parts/clutches, etc can be removed. Click on the part in the car settings sheet to open a drop-down menu and select "normal" to reset it back to stock.

If you're talking about the engine upgrades that increase displacement, (bore up, stroke up) crank shaft, engine rebalance these can not be undone nor will there be an update adding the ability to undo them. If you want these upgrades removed you have to buy a new engine. Same is true of weight reductions and wide-body kit as the only way to reset it to stock weight is to buy a new body. Both are under "Extreme" in the tuning shop. My advice would be to buy a spare of each car you intend to tune or only add parts that can be removed. The cost to buy a new engine or body is too high (and the cost of buying both is, I believe, 95% of the total cost of the car)

I would be VERY happy about a 1h event at Nordschleife, similar to the Spa race.C‘mon PD,bring it on!
An hour? I want at least a 4-6hr... We used to have 12 and 24hr races. One hour isn't an endurance race, it's just a race, lol.

I should have the ability to remove parts if needed.
What parts are you referring to? You can replace almost any part you've fitted with a standard item or - if there's one available - a lower-grade item. The exceptions are engine boring, which can only be reverted with a new engine, and widebody which (and it's quite odd) cannot be reverted at all.

The mystery car continues to baffle. I've seen suggestions of all sorts - from the Honda del Sol to the Toyota GR HV Concept (nope to both, though the HV does have the arrowhead wheel vents).

I don't think it's any newer than 2001, simply because the windscreen is too upright. It's pretty close to 30 degrees, where most newer stuff is 27.5 or less for aerodynamics (read: fuel efficiency) and pedestrian safety.

Not that I'm opposed to it, but adding new cars is the least of what we really need from the game right now.

FIX THE ONLINE LOBBY!!!

And give us more in game events, specifically for Gr1 & Gr2 cars. I mean WOW MAN, the lack of these two general features sucks hard.

Thanks for the information. I was under the impression that crank shafts etc, could be replaced instead of having to buy an entire engine. It's too expensive and seriously restricts what cars I can use in my collection. I probably use 10% of my cars, yet I can't sell the ones I don't use to get credits. Credits I could use to buy a new engine or whatever I need. In any case, this game is a disappointment. When I finished the menu books and credits rolled...I just couldn't believe it. Thanks for the info. I really thought that that everything on an engine could be replaced and it would have been nice if they posted a "this can not be undone" warning on those particular upgrades.

It does have something to do with it though. There's A WHOLE LOT MORE going on under the hood of GT7 compared to GTS that has nothing to do with graphics. More complicated physics calculations, dynamic weather, dynamic track conditions..... all multiplied by how many cars are on the track in real time. Yea.... the PS4 is struggling to keep up. It simply doesn't have the power.

None of those things have to do with resolution or native 4K. Although admittedly, resolution only adds to the problem

EXACTLY!!! But then that makes people like us the bad guys. The fanboys proclaim we're not playing the game properly unless we own all the cars.
I will never play this game enough to get more than 25% of the cars in all probability let alone earn 430M+. In Sport, my earnings topped out at 28M after 3yrs!

Nah don't think so?

It's baffled me so far too, there's plenty about it that seems familiar, but whenever I identify the car something is familiar with, there are other areas that are notably different. There is one car I'm reminded of but I can't recall it's name, I can visualise it in my mind, it's a front engined track day car, but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called.

If memory serves me well (which it doesn't) it would match the late 90's early 00's time period and I recall seeing it in a magzine, it was white and it would have been in Car or Evo, but I also feel that if it were from a manufacturer already present in GT7 my memory may have been jogged by now.

I still say it the Ferrari California, because it's a profitable choice.

The Toyota is new, the Camaro was probably done in time for GTS but not included, and the California is already done.

As far as I remember there’s exactly that, a warning before you install parts/ tune your engine in a way that can’t be undone

the image of the mysterious car is possibly a corvette
not from the C2 and C3 generation because it denotes an air outlet after the hood, something absent from the C3 models and below.
as it has a flat front and a flat rear with a sharp drop, I think it's from the C4 generation onwards

looks more like this one (only if it has a bodykit or is tuned)
