Well it always depends on what is defined as arcadey. A few weeks ago they claimed that it has the best tyre physics in any simulator, but most reviews say it’s still simcade and far from being comparable to ACC, iRacing and rFactor 2. Famine who reviewed the game for gtplanet said it something between GT7 and FH5 and i trust his judgement more than most of the forum members here. But well the target audience are still people using a pad after all.
I don't find it arcadey at all. Those same reviewers also complained about the car body textures not looking shiny like in gt7 but they seem not to have noticed that they are shiny until they get dirty, cars have dirt build up.

One race and practice after my last screenshot. 7 level increase, leveling is really easy it's not even worth worrying about. What I di think is they should keep the level for the same car if you buy a second.
That's great, but how long it takes is not my point.

I think the ultimate answer to this question is that pretty much everyone who is going to play a simcade/full sim has picked their game at this point, and nobody in the genre is really innovating at all so there's no real incentive for anyone to move off of the one they know and enjoy. Especially now that everything is GAAS and so every game keeps getting new content.

This incidentally is why Rennsport is screwed - even if they somehow pull off what they're going for (they won't, but that's off topic), it's still ultimately just more of the same.

Graphics are something completely different than physics. A lot of simracers have already tried FM 2023 already and I can’t remember a single one who claims that it’s physics rivals the PC Sims. But it was advertised as such in the last video preview before the final release. i would buy in a instant and the car pass as well if it was the case because there is no PC Sim which has 500 cars especially production cars.
I want to play this game in Multiplayer and i am sure that it works right well right now, after all it’s being played by just people who were willing to pay for the early access. But next week casuals and gamepass users are going to flood the servers. There is a reason why racing on iRacing is mostly civilized, it’s expensive and noone wants to wait for hours until the next race starts, because he foolishly wrecked his car.

I can help but feel like “arcadey” is looked upon negatively. Why? Its a game, as long as you’re getting some form of entertainment/satisfaction from it, why does it matter if it’s “arcadey”?

I agree with this post.

I'm not the Lorax; I don't speak for the trees. I'll answer the question asked only for myself.

The reason it matters is based on expectations and/or what you want out of the game/sim/experience.

Personally, I play this because I want to have the most realistic simulation I can have on my console. To that end I now play exclusively using the PSVR2 and a wheel.

When I played Out Run I didn't expect this level of realism. I still enjoyed the hamfat out of that game, but Gran Turismo is on a whole different level. This seventh even moreso.

Personally I feel Gt7 is more arcadey than FM but that's from a gamepad perspective.

That's the difference right there.

The real-life versions of the digital cars we're interacting with are controlled with a wheel, not a gamepad. FM is constructed with the use of a gamepad in mind; GT is thinking of a wheel first. Each game can use the other (GT Sport and GT7 let you hold a controller as a wheel if you choose) but the focus of wheel vs. controller is one way one feels more "arcade-like" than the other when using a wheel.

The problem being it was never supposed to rival PC sims. The main goal of this game is still to be completely accessible to the masses, and going that direction kind of goes against that. Regardless of all their PR talk, this is a game built for the masses in mind, much like Gran Turismo. They're both likely to never stray far from that path as that would have the potential to hinder their reach. Casuals will be here this week as well, the inclusion of early access isn't changing that.

GT is largely in the same boat, they're going to focus on what makes them the money first, and that's the casual userbase that massively outnumbers those with wheels.

I dont think PD is AS CONCERNED about money as say an Electronic Arts. Sony on the other hand......

Couldn't have said it better myself.
I used to always beat most wheel racers on Forza in the top few hundred on laptimes with a gamepad(bog stock one too) always finishing MP races in podium places. I have also had my fair share of time with Assetto Corsa, Project Cars(I configured my gamepad to work correctly on this as it was dog **** out the box).
FM is better than both of those in my opinion.

It's because FM has hidden controller assists that you can not disable, much like GT. It's what they build in so most anyone can pick it up and play with very little issue. Pcars2 definitely did not have that whatsoever. Not so sure about Assetto Corsa as I havent picked it up yet, but because I just bought a wheel I plan to soon.

Idk, I think if it was about cold, hard capitalism, GT would've went the way of NFS a long time ago.
Never said that.

So what do you mean by, "they're going to focus on what makes them the money first"?

They're not a charity, they're a profit driven organisation. To what degree isn't the point, but if no one wanted to play GT anymore, they wouldn't keep making it out the goodness of thier hearts. They wouldn't have Cr you can buy for real money is profit wasn't a factor.

It isn't an all or nothing scenario where they have to be not intersted in profit or focused on maximising profit no matter what. If it were the latter, we wouldn't have developers making racing games. Whoever the developer, they may be making the game they want to make, but they are all after a profit and will make concessions to appeal to a large enough fanbase to justify their work.

Exactly that. First, they're going to optimize the game for those that are going to be playing it more. No where did I mention that they're going to focus on "cold hard capitalism" entirely on only so. It's easy to focus on money without being a total hindrance to those people that are going to buy the game, and not introducing toxic features such as a pay to win scheme.

Even then, your NFS idea doesnt even fit because it still sells decently, and as a whole, I think it also has more total sales than GT.

No, because you can't put the disk for Forza in your PS5 or GT7 in your Xbox, so people who only own one console can't cross-shop. Same as it's been since the dawn of time.

Do you claim that Forza Motorsport has better physics than Assetto Corsa? You would be actually the first to do so, because AC is a true sim.

Exactly. Thats the point I'm trying to make. If they were focusing on money first, they could've went in a completely different direction and made more money. If you look at all the complaints and wish lists PD CLEARLY does not give a damn about the 'masses'. Kaz has a vision and he's seemingly intent on bringing that vision to fruition. I feel like(this is purely conjecture) if Kaz had his way, you wouldn't even be able to play GT without a wheel, and that's not just to drive up wheels sales. Its just like the movie industry. The director has a plan, but then the studio steps in and tells them to make changes that would make the movie more marketable/profitable. Thats where the microtransactions, low payouts ect come from.

For me personally it is just a matter of hardware. I have just a ps5.
But if the game is better than gt7, why not. I am not a fanboy.
One very important thing IMO is, how the company treats their customers. And here PD really could improve. In other words: PD is the problem, not gt7.
Hopefully Turn 10 studios proves a better feeling for the community of fans than PD.

Cheers and have a great time with the new Forza Motorsport

Then we are are largely crossing wires and arguing the same point.

On your comment that PD doesn't give a damn about the masses, I don't think this forum represents the masses unfortuantely. Even if the loud voices online were a reflection of the masses, with the game being out for a year and a half, the bulk of sales have already been had and what work they put into the game now is a case of diminishing returns.

The free monthly updates are the best example of PD not being all about the profit, and it is genuinly good of them to keep provide these free cars for players to download most months without charge. But ultimately, they will stop producing this content over time as the profit from sales of the game and MTX's slows down. When it slows down to the point that they do that, I can't tell you.

Ultimately, decisions are driven by profit, not always the most profit they could possibly make, but they are driven by profit. and whatever plans for the game they have will be woven around a profit making business model.

No both GT and Forza need to appeal to the mass market of all ages, NFS doesn't appeal to me at all it's a child's game, I played NFS underground as a child/young adult.

They could've, but even knowing that was your point, it doesn't have much to do with what I said. You twisted that by introducing "cold hard capitilism." I was just saying that the intention to the game is to reach, and be playable, by as many people as possible - that requires the focus on Pad players way before wheel players. Wishlists and complaints mean very little from this forum, or any forum. We are the absolute minority here and dont represent a significant part of the playerbase whatsoever.

That he has an idea for the direction of his game doesn't mean he doesn't want the masses to play it, regardless of outside persuasion, that's exactly why games like Forza and GT are so accessible with a pad first and foremost. That's where the money lies and he can focus on his vision while simultaneously making a game readily playable.

I mean sure, we can completely just assume that's what he'd do. However, what we do know is that the game is meant to be entirely accessible in order to draw in more people. Whether that was his idea or Sony, who knows. Maybe hes just a smart business man, maybe hes not and has outside push from the very few higher ups he has.

I don't entirely disagree with the last bit, though, I wouldn't exactly pin that as the toxicity that I mentioned above. Though, that's a fine line and others see it differently. The payouts aren't inherently bad, it's the prices of the some of those top tiered vehicles that skews it.

A Series S might be well worth it for you bud if you enjoy gameplay rather than the extra cost for pinnacle of console graphics.

I have both PlayStation and Xbox, but yeah many can't the series s is a great budget Gamepass machine.
