I wonder if the aussies cheering when Vettel failed to make Q3 made him feel uneasy.
I think it had just as much to do with Ricciardo guaranteed to have out-qualified him. Only a penalty could have shuffled him down the order, and even then, Ricciardo still would have out-qualified him on pure pace.

I can not even think who will win this championship, its not just 2 constructors or drivers, it's Ferrari, Williams, McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes all fighting for this. Not ever that I recall have we had so many constructors and drivers possibly winning the championship. Like I said in an earlier post, this will be the most exciting season in a LONG time.

The crowd's reaction felt like real emotions, more like gasps of shock and surprise than anything else. Even tho i like Vettel its still very pleasant to see crowd that passionate.
It just feels different that all that hateful, orchestrated **** tifosi pull.

Force India is in that scrap too

The crowd cheer was fantastic... a lot louder than the cars xD
But Ricciardo... had he got pole, that would have been the first time I cheered a RBR for a LONG time!
Still do not like those engines at all, except the Turbos. I still think another 4000 RPM would really change how it sounds. The upper end doesn't seem right.

But away from that, fantastic for Hamilton! Bit of a downer for Button though. Rosberg seems a little disappointed though, but he's got a good chance. Kimi? He's still NOT happy with the Ferrari.

I think partially why Kimi is struggling with the Ferrari is the steering, I believe that since Alonso came Ferrari have had a slower steering rack which means you have to apply more lock for corners than other cars and we know the Lotus had a very good front end which is what Kimi likes.

Just a guess.

Yeah I know thats just another reason why the Grand Prix should come back to Adelaide. I was there BTW and it was pretty loud.

I know where it was, I didn't say it was in Melbourne considering they are support racing their this weekend...

I think you're right and if you recall Kimi had Lotus change things when he go there so he could better drive the car. That steering combined with the easier driving front of the Lotus helped him get more out of it.

looking at those laps it seems that what Brundle said is true - when he mentioned that drivers seem to push the car as if it had last year's grips and correct the errors instead of expecting them and adjusting accordingly.
On the wet they seemed to just hold back a lot more and had a lot more tidier laps - for a wet track.

Then we hear stuff about Horner running F1 after Bernie leaves or resigns...that doesn't sound great if he's making these silly excuses.

Fantastic session! Great day for a Hamilton and Mercedes fan, and an Australian! Ricciardo put in a really good effort there, consistently up there battling it out for pole in each session. Gotta give some praise towards the newbies, Magnussen and Kvyat. They both put in a stellar effort in their first qualifying session, the future is looking bright. Bring on the Grand Prix tomorrow, I can't wait!

Tom
My qualifying report is live.

I was gutted when Ricciardo didn't manage to get pole, I found it a shame when he was beaten by Hamilton. Also, it was nice to see Kobayashi get into Q2, even if by default.

I think the fact that he pushed Hamilton so far... Hamilton who is arguably the best qualifier on the grid (next to Alonso... errh... call it fifty-fifty), in the most powerful car, in the best sorted car, and in the rain, where he's fantastic... and Ricciardo pushes him to the limit.

I'd call that a win for Daniel and Red Bull.

Granted, I had a feeling cooler conditions would suit the car well... Goodness knows how well these cars will hold out on hotter tracks, but that's a worrying sign that Vettel has a chance for a fifth championship this year.

except Vettels car was not capable of accelerating out the corner. There was a noticeable difference that could be seen on the on board view. Why is a fault in the engine map a silly excuse?

Big respect to Ricciardo putting the car up in the first row.
