Lewis really has rotten luck, and it's cost him quite a bit over the years. He had enough in 2012 to cost him a championship, since in 2012 he was the fast car/driver to beat but retired from nearly one in three races due to no fault of his own. Well, I think there was one incident where people felt he was partially, though not entirely to blame, but the rest were just the fates deciding to screw Lewis over again.
This really sucks for Lewis because I wouldn't be at all surprised if Red Bull end up back on top as the season progresses and right now is when the other guys like Mercedes need to be taking advantage of RB not starting off on top, but retiring with mechanical unreliability isn't getting it done. Mercedes clearly had the top car by far and really should have taken a clear one-two sweep of the podium but instead only one of their drivers stood up there while the other one got nothing. Going into the race I was cautiously optimistic that Lewis might finally get an overdue second title win but getting zero points right out the gate is making that look very unrealistic right away. It would likely take him several races of outperforming Nico just to catch up with Nico, let alone leading a championship.
Sorry Lewis. Maybe 2015? Oh, never mind. Red Bull will likely have the best car on day one again next year so...
