Hmm, series sponsor's team getting a BoP break the race weekend of national tequila day and qualifying 1-2...

I wonder if Risi can get the win in GTLM since the BoP changes really helped them. Indy is probably their best chance to win because their Ferrari was on kill in qualifying today.

I think we'd have a different story in qualifying if the last chicane was not put into the track. That right there is probably worth almost second in favor of the P2 car. We'll see 5 wide into T1 though I bet tomorrow with the long drag down the front

Well that wasn't exactly what I was expecting! First 3 P2 cars in Indy. And I bet that I'm not the only one surprised.. Indy was stated to be a DP favoring track many times.

And it seems that I am missing tomorrows Race :grumpy: it starts around 1.00 am. local time here in Finland but I have to go to work at 2:30 am local. Oh well going with Youtube then..

I streamed the qualy just a second ago, and I figured out what the P2 teams did. All were in a DP's tow the entire session. They can load up on downforce for the session and use that tow to keep up in a straight line. Race pace will be interesting. I think if a DP gets ahead, it's gone. P2 will have trouble in traffic again with all 4 classes. Stuff like that should produce a DP winner

The top 3 P2 cars ran 163-164 mph and the Dp's are at 168-169 mph so I dont think the drafting thing works. The P2 car advantage is in turns 3-4 and the 7-8-9 section off of Hulman blvd. The HPD is now matching the Morgan in top speed now which has been it weak spot all year-other than it falls apart every other race.:boggled:

I would start big money Ed in the 2 HPD and let him block the 5 and 90 and let them bash the hell out of each other.:D

I'm saying that slipstreaming wasn't hurting by any means. Oak car waited on WTR to pass before it got going. Both ESM cars were in the draft when they had their fastest laps

Gus Yacaman said it best: Look out in turn 1. If there's gonna be a big one, it's gonna happen here

Get the Fezza a win Risi! :D

cnd01 stop being so ****ing paranoid about your bloody DP's....
He's got a point, there was no good reason for ESM to get a power boost. They were on the pace at CTMP, it was reliability that let them down not speed. I see no good reason to give a power boost to a team that was P3 on the grid at the previous event.

I predict a DP win in the race, with their start advantage they should be able to at least split the P2s at the start, and the advantage in traffic will seal the deal. Qualy is a whole different world, this just isn't a track the P2s will race well on.

When ESM has just as many podiums and wins as Oak, I don't get the boost. They have had reliability problems all season, and that's no reason to give them a boost. 2nd at Sebring with fastest lap. Should've had a 1-2 at Laguna but the 1 car had a gearbox failure. Podium pace at CTMP for at least 1 car, and both cars failed to finish. Podium pace at Long Beach, but the 1 car ran out of gas. Podium pace at The Glen, but both cars had issues. Other than Belle Isle and Daytona, they've been right with the front runners. Personally, I think Ed Brown being a series sponsor wanted an advantage because today is national tequila day, but I digress.

Fact is, There's no huge performance disparity that the HPD needed a boost

Were there any BoP changes in GTLM since CTMP?
If I recall correctly, The Corvettes had weight added to them and the BMWs had weight removed. Risi also had both a power increase and an aero increase as well. The Risi balances clearly worked at Indy since the Ferrari got the pole.

Yeah, Corvette sitting in 6th and 10th in qualifying so I was just curious. They have been pretty much on par with Viper the last few races which the Viper got a BoP gain a few races back, so not sure why Corvette got docked when it was running the same as the car that received a BoP break. The Risi looks dialed in to win.

I expected DP to be faster here over P2, but I think a DP will still win despite the P2's in qualifying.

IMSA this whole season has been nerfing guys based on race finishes rather than actual performance it seems.

How likely do you guys think we're going to see Chevy powering prototypes after the new regulations take effect?

With the Corvette Racing program, you'd think that one of them will eventually get cut, especially if Chevy has no interest in supporting a team at Le Mans.

Performance-based BoP is nice if they announce it as that. Super GT, BTCC...
It's announced as if the HPD had a serious disadvantage. It set fastest race laps before the most recent round of HPD sponsored DP nerfings... I mean BoP that were done after Long Beach. That's my beef with it. BoP isn't intended to be solely a nerf to who's winning but a way to keep one car from dominating. The HPD has just as many wins as all the other chassis at natural road courses.

Makes for a good argument if the facts are left out.IF you actually look at the timing and the trap speeds then you would see that the HPD is slower than the Oak car at every track the speeds exceed 150 mph.The only other "gift" IMSA has given the HPD is a +3L fuel increase way back at Sebring.Unlike the the other turbo P car (Ford) who gets a boost adjustment each race (the Mazda doesnt count),the HPD has been stuck with the same boost level all year.

By that, you'd need to detune every DP by 50 horsepower. The Ford boost adjustments are based on altitude. That's been said by IMSA numerous times.

I must have missed the part were I compared the DP speed to the P2 cars.

Does the HPD,Mazda, and Delta Wing run in the vacuum of space or what?

IMSA didn't feel the need to tweak it (or didn't do any math out of laziness)
