Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

Anyone watch the Continental Tire Challenge race today on Speed? It was tape delayed but still pretty awesome, despite having more cautions than a NASCAR race..

Missed it! I love the Challenge series, that and the old World Challenge are my favorite racing series! The cars are the real deal and not just a tube frame monster made to resemble some car.

The cautions were all somewhat justified though; the drivers were 🤬 off their 🤬 heads in that race. My word I was happy to see the end, the boys must've done $200,000 in damage, to the cars and/or track. Well, okay, maybe not the track.

P.S., no spoilers were included in this post. Seriously, guys, watch the race. If you can stay awake for the cautions, as normal, the last few laps were incredible.

P.P.S., I would love to see Aston Martin in GT, with their GS car (V12 Vantage) and a DP car with the headlights and grill from the V12 Vantage. As you can tell, I think that the V12 Vantage is more artwork than car. *Insert Clarkson's description of the Alfa 8C*

Wasn't it rumored that Aston Martin, the manufacture that is (not Multimatic in particular) wanted to power a DP machine in 2013 as well? I remember some people even saying they were building their own styled DP.

Not sure about 2013 but they have said they are interested in moving to DP as well, maybe even developing their own body work. Final race of the season this Saturday on Speed TV. I say the Gen 3 DP has proven to be a big winner. Through 12 of 13 events 7 of the 9 full time DPs have won at least once. Came close to being 8 of 9 if the 99 could have stretched it's fuel. There are three different engines, Chevy, Ford and BMW. Currently the BMW leads the points, a FOrd won the 24 Hours and a Chevy powered car has the most wins by any team. Three different chassis Riley, Coyote and Dallara. All three have won at least twice. The Riley and Coyote have 5 wins each and the Dallara has 2. The Dallara was in a position to have won maybe two more times if Ricky Taylor had not have three straight brain farts. There are 2 more DPs confirmed for next season with possibly two more rumored to be in the works. Which could bring the DP field up to 13 full time cars.

A 458 won the GT drivers title first year running. They could end up winning the manufacturers title this weekend. The Ferrari and Audi both showed very well in their first season. With Aston Martin and Lotus expected to join the GT class next season. The series is quickly being taken over by the GT3 cars and fewer and fewer prep 2 tubular frame cars are competing. The Mazda and Camaro/Corvette are the two main prep 2 cars still running along with a couple older prep 2 BMWs. The newer Vettes have the option of prep 1 uni-body or prep 2 tube frame for 2013. The BMWs M3 E92 can be either prep 1 or prep 2.

I am trying to post the GA/GT rules

I appear to be watching a different Grand-Am than you were, as the Audi had a very, very poor opening season when compared to the also-new Ferrari. The Audi has scored a single top 10, which was an 9th place at Montreal.

And this is coming from a person who is a HUGE Audi/APR fan. But the entire APR team really sucked this season, in all divisions. They grew too big, too quickly and are paying with a series of poor performances in ST, GS and GT.

I'm really hoping for APR Audi to do better. :)

And, I'm really excited about the season finale, now only 2 days away.

Remember, ladies and gentlemen, Rolex Season Finale: Saturday, 15:00 GMT-4 (Summer time) on SPEED. Watch it, if you like this thread. :)

(P.S., someone should do this for every race. 💡 )

Really hoping Ryan and company can pull it off in DP, I have nothing against Ganassi, but an underdog winning would be pretty cool.

We are headed to the track tomorrow at 9AM, but the weather forecast is rain.
The Continental GS and ST practice and qualifying will be tomorrow along with the ST race @ 3:20PM.
There will be DP/GT practice also.
Saturday's weather looks much better at the moment, maybe a passing shower.
We have been there for the ALMS in the rain, very tricky on the uphill section.

The drivers will have to be careful tomorrow.

IIRC all Pruett and Rojas have to do is their half hour apiece for points to win the Championship.

The entry list for DP has grown from 7 to 9 cars.
With 9 DP entries and a point spread of 13 points it could be a tie.
Dalziel will have to win and the 01 finish last in class.
Tie might go to race wins......2 for the #01.....1 for Dalziel.

With the bad weather who knows.........?

They could probably get Fogerty to take the 01 out on the first lap again, who knows.........?

I myself look for a Dalziel Championship more than a Ganassi upset.

Ryan Dalziel, Alex Tagliani and Alex Popow are to pilot the #2 and #8 entries.

GRAND-AM Announces 2013 Schedules; Adds Austin, Kansas, Road Atlanta Events

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 28, 2012) – GRAND-AM Road Racing announced the most dynamic schedules in its history today, highlighted by three new events and a unique combined weekend with the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón.

Both the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge schedules will feature inaugural races at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Tex.; Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga.; and Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan. In addition, GRAND-AM will partner with the American Le Mans Series on a combination weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis.; the two organizations are in the process of merging and will operate as one, new sports car entity beginning with the 2014 season.

“Last year we raced for the first time at Indianapolis and Detroit, and GRAND-AM will continue to break new ground in 2013,” said Ed Bennett, GRAND-AM president and CEO. “We’re excited about going to historic Road Atlanta – plus the new road courses at Austin and Kansas City – for the first time. And with the combined event at Road America, sports car fans will get a glimpse of the future.”

GRAND-AM’s flagship race – the 51st running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona – opens the 2013 schedule Jan. 26-27 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Rolex 24 also opens the second annual North American Endurance Championship presented by VISITFLORIDA.com, a special three-race Rolex Series competition that includes the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International on June 30 and the Brickyard Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 26. GRAND-AM will again lead off IMS’ “Kroger Super Weekend at the Brickyard” that also will include the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

GRAND-AM’s first races at the new Circuit of the Americas facility will be March 2. The Road Atlanta event is set for April 20, while the debut on the new 2.36-mile Kansas Speedway circuit will be Aug. 17.

The combined GRAND-AM/ALMS weekend at Road America will be Aug. 10-11, with GRAND-AM competition the first day. GRAND-AM will join the IZOD IndyCar Series at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala. on April 6 and at Detroit Belle Isle on June 1.

Other returning events include Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on June 15; Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif. on Sept. 8; and Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn. on Sept. 27-28.

The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge will expand to 11 events in 2012. On nine of those weekends, the CTSCC will run on the same day as the Rolex Series, with the exceptions being Daytona (CTSCC on Jan. 25) and Watkins Glen (June 29). Also, the CTSCC will have two days of competition at Lime Rock, with the Street Tuner class on Sept. 27 and the Grand Sport class race joining the Rolex Series race on Sept. 28.

Yeah, wet.

The last hour of the ST race was rain free but the cars were still flying off the track.
Some had help also.
The cautions led to a great finish to the race and season.
Great Championship battle also.
To read more use the link, if waiting to see the race do not use the link in the spoiler text.

New? Ist das Tilkedrom? :( Paul ****in' Wilson, I hope. He did Barber & Miller!

Probably not a tilkedrom, he is probably "too good" for a NASCAR track. I like rovals, but, only when they're done right :)

RACECAR
I'm kinda surprised to learn that myself. I've never been under the impression that ovals other then Pheonix, TMS, Charlotte, Daytona and Homestead Miami had road courses.

What makes you think they are gonna run on the oval?

The road course part is new, and I don't think he was sure there was going to be one.
