Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

Yeah, I think the title of this thread deserves to be called "The Grand Am Discussion Thread". It sounds a bit low and foreign with its current name.

It appears that theres a Dodge Viper entered?

Thanks. :)

Westbrook or Garcia ran the lap for DP pole? Can you tell me?

Also, yes, there IS a Viper. It's the old Viper Competition Coupe. It's not the brand new FIAT Viper.

It enters select races, pretty sure it was at Daytona and Indy as well. Can't wait for the race today! Scuderia Corsa? That's not a regular season team is it?

At first, I thought you just made up a name for the Aim Autosport Ferrari

Westbrook set the pole time.

Paul Tracy is colorblind, apparently. Red flag? Nah. Just keep going till your team radios in and says "Wait! Theres a red!"

Thanks for spoiler alerts, you jerks. :(

If it's any consolation, Speed ruined the F1 results for me while I was watching the Rolex race.

Anyways......

That was a nail biter at the end between Daizel and Gurney. Gurney was much stronger than Daizel but it was a close battle for a little while after Gurney's last pit stop. DP championship will be close going into the last round of the season. Congrats to the FXDD team for clinching the championship.

Yes it was a nail biter. The battle for second place was epic. That spin by the #5 action exspress car could have taken the race from gurney if it would have been a few seconds later. The points will be close at the end of the season. Who would have thought when Grand-Am first introduced the Ferrari and Audi that a Ferrari team would win the championship their first season out. Amazing job by all of the Ferrari teams.

I don't think it was enough for Starworks though, it's a pretty outside chance. But, anything can happen I suppose. And it is tight Lime Rock.

And it's definitely not surprising that the Ferrari won the championship, they got a lot of breaks entering Grand Am, and they were clearly the dominant car. To the point where they didn't even have to really try anymore. Also helped that the other teams had bad luck, like for example being punted off at Watkins Glen by said Ferrari at the start (an their own).

i've started watching the online videos they have put up because of this thread, and it got me wondering.
With sub 1k views there, empty stands and TV rating that equate to couple of hundered thousand, where do the money come from?
I mean it seems that effectively most forms of auto racing are less popular then League of Legends or DOTA competitions, and most of people who aren't top-level stars there would never be able to make money equivalent to fielding a car.

A friend of mine who currently works in Indy for KV Racing told me that AJ Foyt once told him that to make a small fortune in racing, you need to start with a large fortune.
I'm sure en exact quote is out there somewhere.

Here is a good read on Grand Am.

Basically, like The LeMans 24 hour race, you race because you want to, to win and earn the prestige that goes with it.

Haha, actually, the exact quote, in the form of a question, is, "Would you like to make a small fortune? Then take a large fortune, and go racing".

thanks for the info!
pretty much the answer i expected.
Can only hope motorsports turns to internets before it newspapers itself.

Rumor is Multimatic Motorsports plans on running two Aston Martin V12 Vantages next year in GT for the Rolex 24.

Wasn't it rumored that Aston Martin, the manufacture that is (not Multimatic in particular) wanted to power a DP machine in 2013 as well? I remember some people even saying they were building their own styled DP.

Oh man, that'd be so sweet! I might just go to the 24 just to see those cars!

Anyone watch the Continental Tire Challenge race today on Speed? It was tape delayed but still pretty awesome, despite having more cautions than a NASCAR race..

I think its been said that they've expressed interest in powering a DP along with fielding some cars in GT. I have to admit, Having a Aston Martin DP in the current Gen 3 spec would finally be something competitive to the Corvette DP in the looks department. Nothing against the Rileys because they are a huge step from the MK XX, but they're still meh (which is honestly just a RIley trait).
