Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

Could this maybe suggest the possibility of a GT3 style class in the 2014 merger series? I can't see them investing all this time and money developing and racing the car just for one year..

I could see GT being a GT3 style class and GX being a Touring Car style class. That would be pretty cool...

Haven't they already confirmed the ALMS GT class will stay intact? It's essentially a GT2(Or GTE) spec class already.

If ALMS GT class stays intact (which I hope it does), that puts that base spec at 480 horsepower/1200 kilograms I believe. That's only 20 or so less horsepower than the DP at current DP spec.

I didn't know that, sorry. :(

Hopefully the amateur classes don't find their way in 2014. Those are no good.

Pretty sure Scott Atherton made it clear the current GTE class would remain intact.

That might be the only thing that carries over from ALMS besides the drivers, teams, and the 12 hours of Sebring. Maybe we can see 20+ DP a race like there was back in 2006

The British are coming! The British are coming!

Can it, I'm not convinced. Where's Lotus??

Oh, btw, I imagine Mazda will win GX this season and this year. GX might be a risky class, because they're taking the production motor blocks up to 400+ hp...

After 24 hours, I don't know how many GX cars will still be running. BUT, Mazda's been running the same motors, non-stop, for 50 hours. Not bad.

There was an LMP2 car at Daytona during their test a few weeks ago, would guess that's a sign that LMP2 will carry over as well.

Trying to get out of the hole Dany Bahar got them into.

There are currently only 2 confirmed GX entries(Speedsource Mazda and a BGB Porsche) so I wouldn't be shocked if they both failed to finish.

I don't think the GX class will be a very reliable class. I just don't see motors built to have 250ish horsepower max on the streets boosted up to 400+ horsepower lasting 24 hours problem free.

I read on Grand-Am.com that the LMP2 at the Daytona test was pretty much for a benchmark comparison between it and the DP. If I remember right, the LMP2 was a second quicker than the fastest DP in the test.

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this but the new series in 2014 is using fan input on the name change. "The merged series, which will formally kick off racing as a single entity in 2014, are asking for fan input in naming the new series. To get involved, head over to www.namethefuture.com and submit your suggested name by Dec. 31 for a chance to win a VIP trip for you and a guest to attend either the 51st Rolex 24 At Daytona or the 61st Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida."

Already been mentioned a few pages ago, bud (Likewise in the Le Mans Thread).

I just looked on Grand-Am.com. The 50+ Predator Performance Highway to Help DP is on the entry list for the Rolex 24. Looks like another year for those guys. I liked the way that car looked last year. Hopefully they will be competitive.

Indeed. Welcome to the party, Nelson Piquet Jr.! I think he'll put forth a solid drive in the 2013 Rolex 24. Sounds like he'll be racing with some good company as well.

Nelson Piquet Jr. will be with Action Express at Daytona, alongside Mike Rockenfeller, Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi, and the Friselles.

Looks like a stacked DP grid this year...

Desperate to catch up as I haven't been able to monitor the situation in Grand-Am lately. But I have all the confirmed and rumoured down in a list. The former in red and the latter in black. It looks like 3 cars will run #5 and the other 2 will run #9. I am wondering if Fitipaldi, Piquet and Rockenfeller will have the #5 car.

Well guess what came today in the mail! My camping pass and tickets! Now to order pit passes next week.

Any new news on car counts for the Rolex 24? I've done a little digging, and I think Matt Connolly is trying to get at least 1 DP on the grid. I'm pretty sure it's a gen 2 Chevrolet/Riley. Napleton racing is putting a Cayman in the GX class. I'm pretty sure that's the Pirelli World Challenge team.

Max Papis leaked a mock-up of what the 61's livery will resemble.

It needs a little work, I prefer if they are going to try to use a flag theme to make it bold and stand out.

I presume that because this is only a mock up that the real one may differ. Nonetheless, I think it'll look good on the racing version. However, I would prefer they run two cars with identical/inverse liveries like APR does with there R8s. It just looks more professional that way.

EDIT: Also, I found this picture of TRG's GT4 Aston (A picture that didn't circulate nearly as well as the ones depicting their GT3 GA and ALMS spec Vantages). I wouldn't be surprised if we see this livery on their other two cars.

Wayne Taylor is going to be fielding 2 corvette dp entries for the entire season minus the Rolex 24.

Did they confirm that? I read they were considering it, but weren't official about anything. I presume it would be the #11 car, right?

I read it on speed.com. I'm pretty sure it is official. Not sure what the sponsors will be. I know SunTrust has backed off of sponsoring the 10 car.

Yup, you're right it is official. I believe Toshiba will be sponsoring the #10 full time next season. As for their second car's sponsor, they plan to release those details in January.

Looks like the Astons and WTR's second Corvette DP will debut at COTA. :D
