Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

Have these been posted yet?

Actually, no. Not too bad, but I was hoping for a little red with the black and white. Hopefully we will see the other 2 Mazdaspeed 6s looking good.

Well it looks like Mikey and Rob will be in the Ferrari again along with Clint Bowyer and another driver.

Yes in fact it would. The LMP's did race at Daytona before the DP's came, so i guess they want to run DP's at Le Mans to test new ideas or something.

Honestly though i would enjoy to see DP's race at Le Mans, even if they get destroyed. I can see them running at high GT pace, but they will not be faster.

Funny how you say that when the Daytona Prototypes are almost 4 seconds a lap faster then ALMS GT cars at Road America. That would equal almost 10 seconds at Le Mans. DPs are closer to LMP2 pace then GT

That's correct. Plus, add carbon brakes and different tires. Not to mention DP's don't have traction control and LMP2 cars do.

But Le Mans has more straights than Road America.

I can't see how a 5th class could fit at Le Mans - LMP1 is never going to go, LMP2 is flourishing, and GTE always has a strong contingent. Once Porsche release the new 911 in 2014 to customers then they will be flooding the grid.

So my friend is likely going to be driving in one of the continental tire series. He can't say exactly what yet, but he just had a picture on Facebook with him, Tristan Nunez, and Spencer Pigot in the pits at Daytona. It'll be some sort of Mazda...

DP have more horsepower and weigh less than GTE. LMP2 is certainly not flourishing in America. Plus, if Bill France writes the FIA a big enough check, we will definitely see DP's in the WEC as well as the 24 at Le Mans.

But Le Mans is a european event. It's unlikely we would see DP's at a european event when they only race stateside rest of the year.

Ok. Hunter-Reay joins Jordan Taylor for the Daytona 24, and Speed reporting DP's are in at Le Mans in 2013.

Awesome news. I knew the DP would find its way to Le Mans eventually. LMP, DP, GTE pro, and GTE am I'm guessing will be the class structure.

No way. They're not going to cut their strongest class. LMP2 and LMP1 will still be separate.

Where do you even see that?

If anything, in 2014 we'll have something with the same pace (And look) of GT1 for DP. Thats what my money is on. But for right now, this year, no. There simply arent enough garages to accommodate a DP entry. All of the WEC has to go, plus the "Garage 56" plus all of the various regional entrants.

And what about LMPC? For me, as someone who is a fan of the concept of young talent being given genuine chances to mature and to lean race craft on the job, I don't think the ACO would end the LMPC knowing it is crucial to the continuation of the development of the future Pedro Lamy's and Tom Kristensen's. Would they?

ACO wouldn't cut ORECA out just like that. LMPC as well is gaining. Overall prototypes as a whole is gaining.

Perhaps 1 DP will get garage 56 for 2014?

Someone posted that DP would be in Le mans in 2013, and that was a reply to that. LMP2 might be strong in Europe, but in America it's drawing dead. DP is growing stronger in America especially with Aston Martin DP cars on the horIzon. My question to the gt1 revival is who would race that class? What teams?

Was planning on going today to the Roar, but 56 degrees in the rain is definitely not my kind of weather... Hope it get's better for tomorrow!

In short 4, possibly 5 classes. P2, DP, and delta wing will be one class. PC will be a separate class. GTE will remain. GTC will combine with Rolex GT. Rolex GX could either merge with Rolex GT and ALMS GTC, or it could be a 5th class.

It makes sense from the team point of view... but goddamn that's going to be a mess to follow for anyone new to the sport. They needed to plan this merger out more. So much for a fresh start.
