Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

There are SO few decals...

All I gather from that, is Continental Tires, Rolex, Sunoco, Total, and APR (we all know all of those.)

Why bother even painting it?

Does it look different than last years car? Or is it just the new livery making it look that way?

I think it's the same except for the livery. Not sure though. Grand-Am allowed them to move the wing position on the R8 towards the end of last year. That might make it look different.

I still can't remember if it's actually AWD or not. That might be the difference between GT5 Rolex series :sly: and real life Rolex series :guilty:.

I might still be very new to road racing and Grand-am series but this is going to be a great race to be my first! I don't see much sleeping going on at all which will sucking from driving down all night on Friday night.

It is AWD in real life Rolex. It was dominating at Belle Island when it crashed. That is the track that would favor AWD cars the most.

:odd: I really hope you aren't already going to Daytona... The race isn't for another two weeks...

The rules allow AWD? The car pictured is the 52, will the 51 look any different? The 51 is also the car that runs the full season and not just select races like the 52 did last year. I saw both race in person at the 6 Hours at the Glen, they sounded great just about everywhere.

It will be packed. Hopefully you won't be planning on camping in the infield unless you have a ticket already. It's a really fun race as long as you can keep up with the GT battle in addition to the DP battle without having that little bar on the top of the TV

Link in my signature :sly:

But, that Audi looks awesome! Can't wait to see that bad boy at mid Ohio and Indy!

You know what I meant, damn it! And, while we're at it, damn Seth, too. 10 miserable points! :yuck: :indiff:

Anyways, an explanation: I want to see Audi do better, if Mazda's gone. So much so, that I rewrote the history books, and got Audi their first manufacturer championship in Rolex competition (albeit on GT5.)

1- No, the Audi R8 Grand-Am is rear wheel drive.

2- Here is their facebook pic release (51 is the same)

Er....no it isn't.

The Grand-Am rules states that in reference to the Audi R8; "All cars must be unmodified from FIA GT3 homologation as approved GRAND-AM modifications and built by Audi Sport, including engine ECUs and restrictors.".

The GT3 car isn't AWD, so neither is the Grand-Am version.

EDIT: Tree'd

I thought the GT3 version was AWD, so that's where I was coming from. I'll ask the APR guys at the Rolex to confirm one way or another :)

I'm sure some folks actually are headed down soon to get all geared up before but I'm not heading down til the Friday night before the race (camping 2 day infield).

I probably won't be able to keep up with much but honestly I'm more excited about night racing than anything else as I am a night owl and prefer anything at night. I'm sure it will be packed that's why we bought our package as soon as we could. I finally got my pit passes too so I'm wondering if I can sell my tickets or give them away.

I do have one question on generators as I'm a little worried. The one we have isn't exactly the quietest thing but I'm assuming since there will be racing as it won't be too loud.

There are tons of campers and generators there. Nothing to worry about from what I've seen.

No, GT3 doesn't permitt AWD. It is a RWD only series.

It says here for the LMS and LMS Ultra:

http://gt3europe.com/cars.php?market=false&key=47

EDIT:
This also states that the Grand-Am version is RWD:

Just read through the specs on the right of page.

Thanks! I just was kind of worried about it with just being loud but the more I thought about noise. I think that wouldn't be much of an issue.

Also there will be 55+ cars racing around the track, so one noisy generator won't be too much of a problem 👍

So apparently theres a Twitter rumor (as furthered on the Midweek Motorsport forum) that DP may get to run at Le Mans in 2014.

This seems, frankly, a bit insane. DP (in its current form) would get blasted out of the sky over there.

But if these are true, it sounds like the DP parties have some knowledge about classes, and the LMP guys dont..

As crazy as even I believe it is, it might be likely. There was a rumor somewhere that DP was going to get another design update that would be more in-line with the new LMP regs.

Wouldn't that defeat the entire purpose of a "Daytona" Prototype and a "Le Mans" Prototype?

Unless they were run as their own, separate class.

Besides, the rumour puts the Daytona Prototypes competing at Le Mans from 2014, the same year that DP and LMP will be merged in America. No doubt there will be some revisions to the class for the sake of making them competitive.

The DP at Le Mans rumor might actually hold some water. Granted the DP would look like a fish out of water there. I am having a hard time getting the image of a DP rumbling down the Mulsanne. I bet the DP class would get more Tv air time than the LMP battle because 3 DP would probably finish on the lead lap after 24 hours.

Yes in fact it would. The LMP's did race at Daytona before the DP's came, so i guess they want to run DP's at Le Mans to test new ideas or something.

Honestly though i would enjoy to see DP's race at Le Mans, even if they get destroyed. I can see them running at high GT pace, but they will not be faster.
