Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

From the clip on youtube I'm really not sure where else Juan could have gone, he was already up on the curb and had half his car length along side the Dalziel... all that needed to happen to avoid that accident, was for Dalziel to leave enough room for the car alongside him.

I'll post replays once I can get on the computer version.

Already got it:

Now, lets begin

There is no way the 9 car could be considered to be shutting the door. Juan absolutely dive bombed the 9 car. There is nothing accidental. Juan entered that turn all the way on the bottom of the track.

The 02 has been behind that 9 car for a long time and knowing this is Montoya (by now, who didn't know Montoya was in the car?), he was foolish for trying to cut back to the inside knowing this guy was going to pull an aggressive inside move at (at 9:49). Montoya didn't wreck him on purpose, Barbosa chose a poor time to cut directly back to the inside.

The 8 incident can be viewed as a racing incident if one fails to watch Montoya after contact push dalziel in the sand.

It was Dalziel that pushed him into the grass at turn 1 (11:22 & notice he's in the grass again at 11:28) and seeing how wet that grass was during the race, he gets punted by a car that couldn't slow down in wet grass. Again, Dalziel got himself in that racing Montoya like that.

But no penalty for Montoya for crashing the second and third place cars in the points? If starworks wrecks the 01 at daytona I won't like that either. This should be the last year if the inconsistent officiating. ALMS rules guys are in now.

Why is it the 9 cars fault for driving a normal line into the corner? Does the 9 car have to let Montoya by just because he's Montoya? Same with dalziel? The whole "play with fire and you get burned" thing with Montoya is outrageous. The only move in that race worse than those 2 were when Rojas almost flipped his car trying to squeeze by the Stevenson camaro.

Because they weren't intentional.

Where am I saying its the 9 car's fault? I'm saying he put himself in that position all the while the same guy thats been trying to get by the last few laps was there. Its again foolish not to expect him to make a dash for that position when you leave the door open that wide. I'm not saying he should've just let him by, I'm saying he should've expected that kind of a move after he was holding him off all those laps. At a certain point, it should occur to you after many laps that "This driver is gonna divebomb me at some point, maybe it would be a bad idea to leave the inside open for that long".

Same with dalziel? The whole "play with fire and you get burned" thing with Montoya is outrageous..

You saw the rain, he saw the rain. Given he's driven in the rain before, he should've known forcing a car into wet grass was not going to end well, especially in close quarters like that. As I said, I'm not saying he should just move over, I'm saying he made a mistake doing that while the grass was still soaked from that rain.

The only move in that race worse than those 2 were when Rojas almost flipped his car trying to squeeze by the Stevenson camaro.

Rojas is an idiot, plain and simple. Wins one championship, suddenly feels like he's a driving god (like a certain F1 driver I know). Its BS driving like that which leads me to wanting him kicked out his driving seat.

Now if we are done with Indy, I'd like to instead get some excitement going for the 24 with some onboards:

Sahlen's car looks great.

So, is there anymore info on the Mazda 6 racecar? Is it fwd or is it a tubeframe rwd special?

Gonna miss the scream of that tri rotor RX8......

Don't worry, Racers Edge has come to the rescue. They have entered a lone RX-8 in the Rolex 24. That Skyactiv diesel is really quiet. The black with white writing isn't exactly the greatest paint scheme either. I wanted to see the McMahon raceworks Evora. They had a logistics problem where parts couldn't get here quick enough for them to get the car to the Roar. They are committed to running the full season though. 👍

I like it.

Also, mid-engined is WRONG. (insert video of me trying to drive Ferrari 458 in GT5, or Star Mazda (low-downforce) in iRacing.) I'll stick to liking the front-engined or 4WD cars, thanks. No Lotus. (insert video of me flipping Lotus in Forza 3)

Oh man, that's just lame!! I was under the impression it was a real Mazda 6... Well Mazada and GA for allowing it looses my respect again...

I really don't get this. It's a spec series where everything else is RWD, why would you assume otherwise? Maybe they'll run some production style 6's in the Continental series at some point, or are teams still just running the Mazda 3 there?

It's still the Mazda 3 and the MX-5 in ST. There is a Mazda RX-8 in the ST class entered for Daytona. Also the Racers Edge RX-8 is entered in the Rolex 24.

They did it quite succesfully on the Speed World Challenge days against RWD BMWs, AWD Audis and Volvos and the FWD Acura/Hondas. So why be lazy and go the tube frame monster route? If they are so worried about their FWD the go with a Miata, not lie to everyone by saying this is a Mazda 6...

Well for one, racing in World Challenge is probably easier with FWD than it would be racing against R8's & Porsche's, wouldn't it? And second, other than the Miata (probably too small) they don't really have anything else they could use until the RX-7 comes back in 2017.

That car won't be running against R8s, Ferraris or GT3RSs. The GX class is similar to the world Challenge GTS class in regards to type of cars and speed.

And going off that, looks like all of them in some way will be Tubeframe.

Also Jav, welcome to the lovely Segment in Sportscar racing called Sub-contracting, a practice that dates all the way back to the Fabcar built Porsche 962. Those Mazdas are tubeframe because DP constructors like Riley Technologies builds them, same for the Camaros and even some of the Porsches (Dun, Dun, DUUUUN!!)

You sir have just made my day.

Mine too. The Pontiac gto was the first tumor. The rx-8 has been the longest lasting one. The camaro is a tube frame car. All the GM entries in grand am except the corvettes have been tube frame.

Likewise, so have been the BMWs starting with the M6 from 2009.

I didn't know Turner used tubers. That changes my opinion on the M3 now.

On a side note: The GT class configuration in the merger is going to be a little harder than people think. The GTC class would get smoked by the GAGT cars. As per Mike Hedlund, driver in both series, a GTC Porsche 911 997 currently costs roughly $250,000 to be competitive. That same car, which at GTC spec is perfectly legal in Grand-Am, would get smoked by the Grand-Am Porsche 911 997 that costs about $450,000 dollars just to be in the same ball park as the leaders.

I think I saw somwhere that Turner where walking away from the tube framed cars for this season. Not sure how true that might be...

I sure hope so. There are even a few tube frame cars in gs class in the ctscc.
