With Riley’s new non-brand specific MkXXVI set for its on-track debut next week with Michael Shank Racing, Spitzer said the second new-look Daytona Prototype will go through the same wind tunnel and on-track testing process prior to the “Roar Before the 24” test at Daytona next month, where he expects a finalization of BoP adjustments to be issued.

This was posted on an article I read on speed today. Cant wait to see what the new rileys look like.

Riley's building its own DP, like Chevrolet did with its Corvette DP, but do they use their own engines, or do they use Chevrolet or BMW engines?

I thought only one team signed on with their new DP?

Shank will be the team that debuts it, there will likely be 5 of the new Riley's on the grid at Daytona(9 new DP's are expected with 4 confirmed as Corvettes).

Shank will likely stick with Ford as they ran them in '11.

Probably won't be until 2012. BMW has other series it's focusing on for 2012 (mainly the DTM series) so they're preoccupied. And Ford...well...Ford is Ford. They're probably debating on what to use for the new body, since the Mustang's a GT car and they discontinued the GT. However, Ford looks to bringing the GT back with as a hybrid, so...that's probably what they'll use as their body.

Is this a new Lola body I cant tell from the angle but it dosent look as bulky a cockpit on this car?

I sure hope the Challengers do better this season. I think the team that ran them last year was struggling with finances. But...stock the Camaro and Challenger run pretty equal lap times. So...why the Challenger was having issues...I don't know. I think if it were set up correctly, we could easily see a Challenger/Camaro/Mustang battle for the lead in 2012.

You mean... Challenger vs. Camaro vs. Mustang? Call it what it is- modern Trans-Am (or at least what today's Trans-Am should be, though I'm not complaining much over today's Trans-Am). That would be SWEET!

Here is the Riley.

I think the Corvette looks better, but am happy they look different.

Same here, The smaller Greenhouse is a very welcome change. Just waiting on the bodies from BMW and Ford Next year and the class will really be spiced up abit.

I'm not. Pratt & Miller wanted in on the lucrative Grand Am DP crowd so they worked with GM (and some of the existing chassis makers) to create the marketing vehicle that is the Corvette DP.

Not saying Ford and BMW wont "theme" their cars, but I think it's highly unlikely that it'll happen.

A new Porsche 911 will be the pace car for the 50th running of the 24 Hours of Daytona. This is really shaping up to be an exciting season...new cars...the first Vipers in a decade...fun fun....now...if only I had the Speed Channel.

Are you joking? Please tell me it's some sort of road course and not 24 hours of oval racing... :ill:

Are YOU joking? Posting in a thread about something which you obviously know nothing about? If you've played GT5 of GT5P (which I'm assuming you haven't) or followed Grand Am at all, you'd know that the Daytona we're talking about is the road course. You can check the Grand-Am site or look at this map:

You have to remember that the Challenger is a huge and heavy car. Still pulling for a Mustang domination next season:D

I know the road course, and the oval. I have not followed Grand Am previously.

:odd: ... Sorry to ask a question in a thread where people would... know the answer. 💡

And either way, I would think that any 24-hour race would/should involve a more interesting track than Daytona, be it the road course or not. But as someone else pointed out, that's Americans for you. Daytona might be a prestigious American track, but prestige doesn't necessarily have any bearing on whether or not the course is interesting, which for a 24-hour race, Daytona is not, imo.

Good day to you, sir.

The Camaro is also a heavy car. In fact, the Challenger and Camaro are pretty even. I'm assuming that if the Camaro can be turned into a decent racer, then the Challenger can be, as well. And this time, Racer's Edge Motorsports have worked with Grand-Am and SRT to develop the car, so it should be competitive.

The 24 Hours of Daytona is 50 years old. Not as old as the 12 Hours of Sebring, but, still pretty old. And, the high-speed of the track is actually pretty brutal on the cars. Plus, the first corner is just evil: You come up to it at 200mph + and have to slow WAY down to make that first corner and if you're fighting for position with someone, that just makes it harder to get right. That first corner is where most people mess up, hence the large run off in real-life.

Like I said, age (prestige) doesn't make the track inherently interesting. The first corner might be a challenge, but the rest still doesn't make up for it, for me.

To each his own, I guess. I like the Daytona Road Course...and the Indy Road Course is on the schedule this year, which is also a fun course.

Than don't watch it.💡
