Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

Than why are you in this thread?

Perhaps if you had a better tone in your posts, you would find the reception a little warmer.

I am in this thread because I am interested in watching Grand Am races. And I don't care if people take offense to my tone concerning oval racing, or more specifically, Daytona. His initial reply was slightly obnoxious in the first place.

Than you shouldn't be surprised when people aren't very warm when responding.

Are you joking? Please tell me it's some sort of road course and not 24 hours of oval racing... :ill:

Are YOU joking? Posting in a thread about something which you obviously know nothing about? If you've played GT5 of GT5P (which I'm assuming you haven't) or followed Grand Am at all, you'd know that the Daytona we're talking about is the road course. You can check the Grand-Am site or look at this map:

Can you blame him?

A simple "Is the 24 Hour race on the oval or road course" would probably have been much more well received than what you posted.

I have a saying, you can have your opinion, it's how you choose to express it that can get you into trouble.

Eh, I'm not in trouble. :odd: And I still don't see a problem with my original post. Does it point toward an opinion of oval racing? Yes.

Ok, fine.

I'm getting on my my own life now, as these responses are taking the thread off topic.

If you would have just visited the Grand Am website at http://www.grand-am.com all this could have been avoided. Why you didn't go "Oh, this sounds interesting, perhaps they have a website and taken a gander at it, or even just googled "24 Hours of Daytona." There were steps you could have taken to avoid this, but you chose not to. It's like throwing away the instructions on a model car and then complaining when you get it wrong.

Daytona, Homestead-Miami and Indy are the only "oval courses" on the schedule. It's owned by NASCAR so a couple of visits to NASCAR tracks is expected. If you want to watch a race, then do it, if not, then there's no point in commenting here.

BTW, according to Grand-Am, they'll be using the MotoGP course for the Indy race:

Pretty sweet.

McNish will enter the Daytona 24 Hour race, with permission from Audi 👍

Thats why I like the 24 Hours of Daytona. Last year there was a Peugeot driver who was interviewed after his first stint (Can't remember which one) and he said it was fun to just go out and race, and not have a bunch of corporate big-wigs putting on a bunch of pressure.

Also, it looks like it brings drivers from all over to compete in what has always been a pretty competitive DP class.

Am I the only one NOT looking forward to seeing Kaufman in the Daytona 24 Hour race?

Wow! Lot's of improvements already after two rounds of practice. The Corvettes are doing awesomely, but the Audi R8s and the Viper are still getting dialed in, but when you compare the two practice sessions so far, I think it might be a Viper vs. Audi race in GT:

Practice Round 1 results:

Practice Round 2 results:
http://www.grand-am.com/schedule/results.cfm?series=r&eid=3427&sid=2385

And there's three teams with R8's: Audi Sport AG, APR and Oryx Racing.

Hey, I have been watching grand-am for the last 3 years on ONE HD in Australia (even though the motor sports coverage down under here is $hit)

I was looking on the website and the new Corvette DP chassis was unveiled, is there going to be any more constructors that will bring out new DP chassis or is it going to be a 1 make comp for this year in DP.

Oh and on the GT side of things, i was watching the pre race of one of the last races of the season (Watkins Glen I think) and they showed a hi light of a press conference which the Chairman/owner of the series said that Ferrari will join the series from 2012 onwards. Plus are there any major driver changes in the top teams

Now I DIDN'T WATCH the last race of the season due to the bad coverage in Australia, but i have not seen or heard any word of it since.

I am only 15 so I don't have anyone in my school that like cars and Motorsport lik me and us. So I cant ask any friends or colleagues in real life :(

So can someone help me with this???

Really? That's interesting because a lot of the Aussies I've come across have been some of the biggest and most knowledgeable petrol-heads.

Well I got good news for you:

The coverage isn't too bad but it could be a lot better though (though F1, V8 Supercar and MotoGP coverage is fantastic). In recent years we've been lucky to get British Touring Cars, WRC, live Grand Am and NASCAR, live Le Mans 24 Hour, DTM highlights, FIA GT1 and GT3 highlights on free-to-air television but most of those have disappeared since our dedicated sports channel has been re-programmed into a "man's channel". I'm still not sure if we're even going to get Grand Am coverage this year, which is a bit disappointing as it's a great, exciting series. It's just too bad many people seem to disregard the series because they don't find the Daytona Prototypes appealing to look at.

Man! it's even like that for Speed TV Australia?

I actually wouldn't have a clue as I don't have Foxtel (cable/satellite TV). But yeah, I had only mentioned a decent portion of the free-to-air coverage. Speed on Foxtel could actually have some pretty decent coverage for all I know but I don't plan on forking out money for a bunch of channels I won't even watch.

Yes, in general the middle and older generation are very knowledgeable, but the younger people mainly don't give a crap! Get this, the bathurst 1000 was on and the teacher of our year level in an assembly asked if any of us had watched it?

And only 4 or 5 out of like 100-110 said yes O.O

But it does not help that i live in a daft area called Frankston (1 hour away from Melbourne.) Because all the kids care about in my area care about is doing up their scooters, because they are too poor to afford any kind of car *Jokes* So in my area and school only know 1 person in my year level who actully is really in to cars. She likes Japenese tuners and drifting

But you will ususally get the Petrolheads more around the Melbourne and Geelong area.
