I can overlook all the faults if the driving is decent but (GT5 is) so dull.
This is where personal impression really shows. I find PC sims to be very stale and soulless, and Prologue to be outstanding but still too slow in turns. In spite of the things that irk me, GT5 is full of life, soul, passion and panache. Obviously, roaring engine notes don't matter as much to me - and my Supra happens to sound like a vacuum cleaner in real life, thank you. ;)

In fact, I posted that roaring engines, ridiculously great car models, trackside backgrounds that run on for miles and such are all great, but the driving/racing experience has to be there or I'm just... not. I don't feel all that much in GTR or LFS except a really good physics model. I don't love a single car in any of my other games, not even in my Forzas. Forza 3 was close, until it blew up on me. In fact, the main reason I'm attracted to F4 is the Livery Editor. I've never really been sorely impressed by the racing in any Forza - obviously, since I ran from F3 back to GT4, and spent hundreds more hours in it racing, saving replays and snapping Photo Mode pics! I think all told, I played it close to three years straight.

I'm approaching Forza 4 with the hand of friendship, and I have high hopes. But if T10 slaps it again, this might be my last Forza, or 360 game for that matter, since I don't care for the game library at all.

Why are you buying it, their supposed to be fixing GT tomorrow.

Anyway I predict you will be bashing within a fortnight tops. Maybe a month.

Hand of friendship my arse.

OMG Porno Sound :dopey:

Wow. Eat your heart out PD. That's how it's done. I had to stop watching because I started to feel like it was a spoiler. I listened to the first 3 cars and that was enough to consider me sold on the new car sounds. Huge improvement on FM3 which was already pretty good imo.

I havent played GT5 since around February. BUT tomorrow morning I am hoping to get up early enough to DL the GT5 2.0 before I go to pick up F4 at 10:00 from Gamestop.
Hopefully that GT5 2.0 update is actually working.

Man, That vid made me drop FM3 altogether. I was playing it testing/getting used to the speedwheel, and now I can't bring myself to play it after watching that. I don't wanna play the demo either in anticipation for tomorrow

Oh lawd, oh laaaawd

If it sounds that good on my crappy laptop speakers... I'm going to have eargasms when i get to play it for real.

Forza does sound good but FFB and general feel from the demo was like baking bread. So far GT5 has the edge but F4 is not even out. Forza 4 demo actually made go back to GT5 after I realised how nice it feels in comparison :)

Man, after doing the FM4 demo, I don't think I could ever go back to GT5. It would just feel so wrong after this. GT5 indeed needs to work on physics and feel.

I'm interested how the black frame cockpit view is going to work in night racing?

I would imagine, not very well.

I'm hoping spec 2 does bring some goodness at last.
I won't mind booting it up now and again for a change.

Why didn't hey use the same HUD as they did in the premium car's cockpit view, by the way? I mean, that way, it'd be a little less obvious that they've pasted the cut-out from GTPSP onto the bumper view of the standard cars.

Seriously, that cutout is something I would have expected a developer to do on the Commodore 128 in Spyhunter, not in today's machines. :dunce:

At least we get the mirror though 👍

I am opposite to you on this. Playing FM4 demo made me appreciate GT5 a lot more and also the PS3. My 360 issues could however be solved by upgrading to the new slim model, fan and disc noise is quite a lot louder than my PS3 slim. I was thinking about upgrading my PS3 because I thought it was a bit too loud and got a bit too hot, now I think it is silent and runs cool . 360 has its positives as in fast update installing and demos, it works a bit like Steam on PC.
Anyone have an idea of what time Spec2.0 will be available?

It would probably work as any premium cockpit. Inside is less detailed, and maybe quite a few of them not detailed at all. It will be interesting how the black frame ones get lit up.

There are different quality standards :sly:. One that have black frames and one that have some interior modelled. I think they did it so the black frame cockpits more usable. An alternative to bumper car view for people. That is one gripe I had with FM4 demo, in GT5 I can easily see what speed I'm doing, in FM4 I have to look towards the right while trying to drive the car flat out. Was FM3 customizable on the HUD front and if not will FM4 be?

Well, technically, the ones that have a modelled "interior" are the ones with an open cockpit, where it was modelled since GT4 as part of the exterior.

But, yeah, I guess we've got standards and sub-sstandards now?

It just doesn't make sense to give the standard cars a different HUD in cockpit view than the premiums... I know that it's there to give people an alternative to bumper cam, but why not go with the "cockpit view HUD"?

As far as I know, you could only turn the HUD off...

Yeah, my original Xbox 360 sounded like a jet plane compared to my PS3. I was like, why can't my 360 be quiet like this. Now that I have an Xbox 360 slim and install the games to the HDD, it's actually much quieter than my PS3!

I found the grip to be pretty loose in FM4, but I am getting the hang of it again, which is great...indeed feels more realistic.

You have a few options like digital/analog rev meter. And you can on/off specific parts. Talking about FM3 of course.

There might be others that have cockpits like the recently modelled standards which are maybe on the process of being made a premium but ran out of time. Something like the Veyron. I'm glad they did not waste time trying to add fully detailed cockpits to standard cars as they would have had to remodel them all again to premium level.

Yep there is different standard of standard cars but we already knew this.

It is because quite a lot, if not the majority of standards do not have dials like Premium cockpit cars.

That is a shame then about the HUD. So all the views you have to look to the right to see the speed clearly which will make something like rivals mode slightly harder to improve but it is the same for everybody at least. I know why people are quite easily in say the top 10% in the demo on this forum, the majority have not set a valid lap. T10 should just not bother with invalid times, it will then make people realise the confines of the race track and improve the majority of drivers in the game. I reckon most don't know what the warning sign means so they try and go up the leaderboard constantly setting invalid times.

The newer PS3 slims are quieter than original ones. I have the original PS3 slim and want to upgrade due to a further die shrink but might hold out for the super slim version to come out sometime next year, maybe it will announce in E3. I will be picking up a slimmer version of the current slim 360 too then, hopefully they will fix the disc scratching cutting problem.

It was a typo (Now corrected, thanks.), meant to say gripe and it was about the HUD. Traction is another gripe though, I drive the same way I did in F1 2010 with TC on Full as I did in the FM4 demo. It is easier to go full throttle quickly in FM4 too with no TCS and you get perfect traction. Removes a lot of skill involved, in terms of finding grip through throttle control, I just end up going flat 100% straight away as it just grips.

HBK

It would be good if GT had these options.

Thanks Ali. Looks like it actually might be just before midnight tonight. That's of course providing they put it up right after the maintenance.
No problem, it looks like it will be if they put it up after the maintenance. The Spec update seems just a bigger collection of minor updates. I'm hoping they have added more stuff than they have mentioned but won't hold my breath for it.

Are you using the pad? It's easier to maintain grip with the pad. I tryed it with a wheel, and boy its a handful. Understeer seems to be more realistic, if you turn in to hard with a wheel, it punishes you by plowing you headlong into a wall.

I'm a bit confused here. I could have sworn that all the invalid times , no matter how fast, were below valid times on the leaderboard.

PS: Don't fret the speedometer being on the right. You'll get used to it in no time (like about 1 day). It's not like you're a little "slow" or anything.

Yeah, I have the 40GB fatty PS3. No slim here. I am considering upgrading my HDD though since I keep running out of room with game installs.

Ah, yeah. Not sure why yours is gripping and ours isn't. Are you using the controller? With the wheel, the cars are just fishtailing everywhere. From a standing stop, to accelerating out of a corner too fast...to even just being on the straight, goosing it hard, and the back end will break away. Sounds like you have a setting off or a different control at your hands. You will find that too much grip isn't an issue once you figure out what might be throwing your experience off.

One thing I shall be interested in is how many GT5 players migrate over to FM4. I have a feeling quiet a few. I personally feel the only person to blame for allowing Forza to overtake GT (IMO) is Kazunori and his lack of vision and refusal to move with the times. I shall explain this by telling you how my gaming habits have changed over the past 15yrs.

Back in the late 1990s/early 2000s when I played games such as GT I was content grinding away, repeating events for credits to aqquire cars and I used to make a note of my laptimes on pieces of paper.

Onto 2005 and this is the year when gaming changed drastically for me as I entered the world of online gaming. This began on the PS2 playing Burnout and I loved every minute of racing online and it was my first taster of competiting on the leaderboards. I then moved onto the Xbox 360 and playing games such as PGR3, Forza 2 took online gaming onto a new level. I started losing interest in playing the single player mode and became addicted to racing online, hotlapping with friends. This moved onto another level of intergrating with my friends on FM3 by sharing tunes, designs, replays etc.

Now this is the problem with GT5. Apart from racing online the rest of the game makes me feel as though im back in the 1990s/early 2000s. If you look at FM4 you will see they have added additional online features i.e rivals mode. Have to say im really looking forward to the Top Gear challenges in Rivals mode because Turn 10 have certainly implemented Top Gear into the game much better than PD did.

I really do doubt how much of a gamer Kaz really is. I also believe he makes the mistake of not following other racing games and gaming in general. The average age of gamers has definitely increased over the past 20 yrs and how we play video games has changed. The endurance race events in GT5 are a clear example of how PD/Kaz are not living in the modern gaming times by expecting us to complete an endurance race without saving. Due to the average age of gamers increasing we no longer have as much time to play games due to work, family commitments.

When he created the series in the nineties, his vision was something fresh, new, never done before. What happened is that times change, and that vision that he never fully realized because of hardware/time constraints, got kinda lost in all of this. That's what you get when you put the whole weight of the creative process in one person's vision. Forza, on the other hand, is a constant brainstorm... incubation if you will, lol. A team in a constant lookout for fresh ideas to integrate in their game, playing not only the competition, but other games outside of the genre and looking on what could carry over across genres, while creating some new ideas and concepts themselves. to me, this is the difference
