^^ Avoid playing FM4 on headphones altogether.

Yeah, component and digital surround systems "smooth out" the sound gradient, and the socalled distortion isn't all that noticeable. It's more noticeable on some cars, not on others.

I myself own one of those component hifi audio systems. Even though I don't get 5.1 channels (amp doesn't accept DD 5.1 from external sources), the audio coming out the 2.1 digital stereo surround is loud, crisp and bassy. 7 speakers in total, including the TV's. Volume gain's kept much louder than the TV of course. Love it. The "Home Theatre" option in the FM4 menu really dials the audio in.

I don't know about other specific setups, but on a Teufel Concept E Magnum, you can still definitely hear the distortion and some other stuff (random audio crackle, for example). What stuff am I supposed to use? I could ask my buddy to use his Bose Acoustimass, but I'd think that can't possibly be a requirement.

I'll google up this system.

I guess avoid setting the mids and highs to too high a value. Keep in game volume between 15 and 18. Keep the audio system's master volume gain at the default setting, or a little lower than that.

Also, clear your HD's cache from time to time. How much free space do you keep on your HD, at any given time?

I think I've got around ~50GB of free disk space on the HDD. There isn't much stuff on it (any more). The system is set for a relatively balanced audio output, as it is equally used for listening to music, watching movies and playing games. I simply can't be bothered to set it up specifically for Forza - and I shouldn't have to, right?

The system's a little heavy on the bass, though, which is why I prefer setting the mids and highs slightly louder than usual. Otherwise, it'll only sound good when playing dubstep (which would make it sound bad again ).

Yeah, you shouldn't have to set it up for Forza. But..

Lower the bass a little so that you don't have to increase the mids and highs above the normal value. That would make the socalled distortion and occasional pops/crackles more prominent.

Go on then, happy motoring!

The crackling and distortion would be pretty much the same, given that the balance of the sound would be quite similar to what it actually is like now. I'd have to crank up the master volume slightly if I did that, after all.

Anyway, I'd say that you can mask some of the flaws with FM4's audio quite well by fiddling with your sound system's setting - however, that's because you're drowning that stuff out. Take the Z4 GT3, for example. FM4's sound sample does sound quite good. However, it isn't as hoarse as the original car and it lacks that sort of raw, metallic sound of the engine. It also lacks the loud crackle and popping upon rapid deceleration. While in cockpit view, the transmission whine isn't anywhere near as loud, compared to the engine, as it should be. Nonetheless, it's a great sound - and far ahead of a certain competitor, that's for sure. Setting your sound system up differently isn't going to remedy that the few flaws that are there, though. That'll mask it, at best. And that's why I think the whole discussion about what equipment someone uses to listen to FM's audio is quite a moot point - since nobody said it was terribly bad, or anything.

^^ Hmm, I second all'O that.

While certain sounds may be off here and there, I've noticed the transmission whine is quite audible, but only in the cockpit view. This is specially true of all race cars. However, it varies from road car to road car.

No idea though, how well it replicates the real thing, since I've never driven one with straight cut gears.

And yeah, miles ahead of the competition. And it only gets better in future releases.

Personally, Id say that that's all you can ask for - being better than the competition, that is. At least if we're talking about a game that was released in 2011. It's kind of funny that T10 will have to try to best themselves with FM5 - something that other companies often claim to be aiming for, more so than T10

Yep, T10 definitely came out that last corner earlier than "the other folks" !

But they're going to need to give FM5 some serious meat and potatoes as well as bells and whistles, to stay in the lead.

There's no question FM6 will have to find one way or another to feature weather, night driving and rally driving.

Edit: This image is from an older Forza that somehow popped up on the FM5 tracks page via a page rendering glitch.

I beg to differ actually. I'd prefer rally to be a separate title and a more fully fledged game than the odd dirt track. A stand alone off road Forza would be immense.

That's not representative of FM5 as it's not FM5. :P

Yeah, that was my mistake. I just saw a picture of something that wasn't Prague for a change on FM.net and went snap happy.

It was only after posting it on Forza Central that a poster there found out it was from an elder Forza.

I can pass on Forza 5 for right now, but if Playground Games makes another Forza Horizon, it's going to be almost impossible for me to not get an Xbox One. I hope the wheel ssue is sorted out before that happens.

^ I've considered the same thing. At least by the time FH2 appears (if we get one) we'll have a pretty clear idea of what the XBone is really like.

You know, Horizon could actually be that game. I was playing the rally expansion the other night, and realized that the cordon that separates the two games (Festival/rally) would be all that's needed if it's expanded on. All it needs is FM-style damage, dedicated ribbons/tracks and added a few more rally and rallycross inspired things. Playing with a wheel makes it "Sim" enough already for me, it at least puts it on par with DiRT from the little I've played of that, they could tweak the physics a bit more if they felt in necessary.

Horizon has the potential to be an epic rally game with everything from WRC-clubman rally to Desert-racing/Dakar to Rallycross, all this with the Forza car customization. The game as a whole would benefit with wider gameplay appeal and a bigger map.

Dool worthy.

Let's all take off our serious pants. My post wasn't garbage, it was a light-hearted attempt to get a few yuks from a group of people who I know are a little fatigued by T10's PR.

I knew nobody would mistake my post for news because I gave them enough credit to be critical readers, so I saw no reason not to go ahead with it.

I apologize for inconveniencing your scroll-wheels, but not for the content of my post.

My post wasn't garbage

Except that it was.

it was a light-hearted attempt to get a few yuks from a group of people who I know are a little fatigued by T10's PR.

Lighthearted it may very well have been, however, posting anything resembling news was bound to be taken seriously despite any obvious disclaimers you felt there might have been. It's a dynamic that's reared it's head in the GT forums as well, expecting it to be any different here has proven otherwise.

You posted it to get a response and for no other reason.

Except someone already has, and I'm certain you expected as much.

I apologize for inconveniencing your scroll-wheels, but not for the content of my post.

And I don't apologize for deleting said post.
