Early first impressions all from Free Play:
-Environments look stunning with the new sky box. COTA showing sun & shadows with the SV looked gorgeous. As did Sebring. However, on Hockenheim & Laguna Seca, didn't get anything drastically different, I have read its random on Free Play though & on a second go at Laguna, it did show a bit more shadow.
-Car sounds are improved. I'm sure faults are to be found on individual cars, but the ones I've tried are good enough for me.
However, much like I found inthe demo with the GT-R, the F50's in-car audio has a weird reverberation, as if it was captured from someone mic'ing the car whilst it was on a dyno inside somewhere; the reverb sounds like the exhaust bouncing off the walls of a building.
-Biggest flaw found so far; new cars look good. Old car with the F50 has a glaring fault I can show from a couple quick grabs off the phone. I know this isn't the most ideal comparison, but going into photomode on FM7 seems to correct some of the flaws. The top is FM6, the middle is FM7, & the bottom is of course, real.
Most noticeable are the areas where the grille curves downward where as in FM7, the model just slants down. The trim piece around the grille and taillights is more pronounced in FM6 as well just as you can see it in the real car. The area around the exhausts in FM7 is quite round as well as is the area the plate goes on. Now, I've only seen the car on Laguna so far, but I'm not expecting a major difference in a different environment. Both cars are also, not 100% faithful at the end of the day either if one spends enough time looking. But, my critique is that FM7 looks like it took a step back on the player model because in photomode, the areas at the top of the grille are curved as they were in FM6. And this worries me a bit if some of the cars I raced a lot in the previous game look like they have similar flaws.
It's not a game breaker & I'm willing to give it a pass IF the game corrects these sort of adjustments by being meant to be played on the One X where the game can shine. For now though, it irks me a lot.
