That's my racing "Gurn" not my racing "face"!!!

Bases solely on when you say the word "garage" I'd say yes, but overall, definitely not strong.

What is strong is how Nick pronounces Nissan, that is always comic GOLD

:P There's nothing wrong with Niss-an! It's better than Knee-san!
Besides, you guys say Niss-mo and not Knee-smo right? :P

Anyway, we raced plenty of Hon-ders rather that Hahn-dahs much to Alex's amusement, and I steered clear of Maz-der and / or Mars-dars completely this time! :D

But you did bring in the Ac-oo-rahs! 💡
or was it Accu-rer??? :D

I actually liked the Hi-yun-dai....err...hee-yun-day...ummm...hey-oon-dai....HDC or ugly fish looking car thing on High Speed Ring. I thought it was a good combo, despite being slightly slower than the NSX, which I didn't have TOO much trouble keeping up with.

Finally decided which race was my favorite. Had to be the "Pick and Mix" Infineon stock car. I had just run the High Speed Ring reverse debacle, where I had the wrong view in my Acura and none of the familiar buttons to fix it, not being conversant with EDK's rig leaving me confused. Got going 16 seconds behind and was only able to pick up 4 of them. Like making up the other 12 was even possible.

Move to Infineon and run the MR2. Kyle chased me down but I was a man on a mission. Needed to make up for HSR. Knew it was him in the Opel Speedster behind me and started sweating. Luckily I was able to keep it on track and redeem my self respect.

Liked the first lap of the VW Golf at Nurburgring, till the followers freight trained Kevin and I. Didn't realize there was so much grass cutting going on till I watched the replay. THAT!! Was some hot racing.

LOL..Is that how Smallhorses actually looks when he's racing? OMG...TOO funny!

Looks like things went quite well for you guys and that everyone had a blast racing! I do hope if/when the next SFGTP get-together occurs, I'll be able to attend..let's keep our fingers crossed shall we? :D

LOL..Is that how Smallhorses actually looks when he's racing? OMG...TOO funny!

I was playing to the camera. Honest. :D

Not done my regulation "thank you" mega-post for this event yet, so here goes, starting out with our "first-timers":

RadRacing: Made everything look fantastic by supplying 10 RIGGRacing cockpits, and sold a couple too (to me and Vaxen!) It's great that Ramon was able to help out so much with the preparation this time and he's put great energy into seeking alternate venues that we can try out if this SFGTP thing keeps expanding (we're on the verge of outgrowing my garage!)
Thanks too for the videos and getting them up on here so fast! 👍
Had some good races with Ramon, eventually coming out victorious at Sarthe II to escape the Xsara, despite it's 4mph deficit at the redline over the Integra, and at Seattle where another lap would've seen the Gathers Drider Civics of Leland & myself right on the back of his expertly managed Beetle Cup car!

D.Pritchard: Logistics guru supreme :D, Leland made Ramon's & my plans to shuttle back and forth between our respective houses, transporting a couple of RIGGs at a time, disappear in one fell swoop of his enormous Dodge Ram pickup and 5 tonne trailer which completed the task in a single easy journey!
A very spirited (and loud! ;)) competitor he is another fast and clean racer to throw into any given pack and we had and especially good race in the Gathers Drider Civics at Seattle, albeit for 2nd place!
Also, as mentioned before, the winner of the "MRCOASFGTPSF" ("most relaxing chair of an SFGTP so far" award for the vibrating massage pad on his race station!)

cmpinberkeley: A incredibly surprising debut having not driven about 80% of the tracks in GT4 before! Marc quickly took to many different cars and tracks with ease and turned an incredible number of very consistent laps in the Clio Endurance having never driven one, or the Midfield reverse track until about 20 minutes before the event! Wasn't fond of the 'Cuda at El Capitan though! Allowed us all to have a little peek at iRacing, and one or 2 of us to have a practice drive (we didn't mess your stats up!!!) but we didn't get much chance to have a full demo as he left early on Saturday to party in SF with his girlfriend who'd just arrived back from Sweden after a lengthy period away. Risked being in the doghouse by coming and playing videogames for hours on end! Hope Maria isn't too mad with us for keeping you out too long!!!

billyjoebobx: Our pipe-smoking, Saab driving, debutant is effortlessly easy to get along with and a pleasure to race against. Having focussed much of his efforts in being supremely fast at GT5:P by all accounts, it was a little difficult for Will to readjust to the GT4 experience, but it's rumoured that we've re-ignited an interest in the superior car & track selection (if accompanied by less graphical niceties than GT5:P) that GT4 offers, and I get the feeling he'll definitely be one to look out for at the next party if he's been practising and we're still waiting for GT5 come November! :scared:

Kylehnat: Returnee for a 4th time despite the 1500 mile roundtrip drive to get here, and if Jack's calculations are right (and given his recent graduation with a Maths major, there's little doubt about that!) Kyle is the overall winner of the "Dutch Schtyle Raysching League" Event.
Shared many a great battle with Kyle throughout the weekend, that's his White VW Golf GTi that gets sideways into Eschbach in front of me at Nurb', (see Vaxen's vids) and in the Nismo 400Rs at Tokyo R246, although I couldn't get close to his Pescarolo at Sarthe I as he ran away from the pack. His repertoire of Family Guy impersonations even made an appearance on Sunday too which is always amusing.

jmgyro: Our other long distance traveller (relatively) from the other side of Sacramento, and another returnee from SFGTP4. Good to know we didn't scare you off the first time! Jack's mathematical contributions throughout the weekend were the perfect tonic for my somewhat addled brain after testing a whole bunch of pick'n'mix events and then 🤬-ing up all my drivers vs. race stations calculations! Little does he know he's unsuspectingly volunteered himself to take care of the race matrices for next time! :nervous: Seriously though, Jack's studies haven't cost him one bit of his extreme quickness, something proven by his overall win in the FF Race Car Handicap event and it's always a priviledge to share a cyber-track with him. (Both Jack & David were also gracious when a mechanical failure took them out of the running in the Clio Endurance after 37 and a bit laps. :()

alrivers: who along with Marc, is SFGTPs resident party animal and left for a South Bay Party on Saturday night, returning in all his finery on Sunday morning to clinch a richly deserved "SFGTP's Best Dressed" award for a 2nd consecutive event! :P Thanks also for driving us out for a late, late Sunday dinner, giving us a ride in the "Sixer" and introducing us to the "smorkin' plush labbit"! Sadly I only got to race Alex about twice in the first day, but we made up for that with some monstrous races on Day 2, the Tommy kaira "Zed-Zed Ess :P" at Deep Forest, Oreca Viper at Opera Paris and of course the VW Golf GTi at Nurb' all spring readily to mind. 👍

raz_10: showed the vast majority of us a clean pair of heels for many races over much of the weekend. Staggeringly consistent throughout he took wins in virtually every car in the MR Pick'n'Mix and barely ever made a mistake all weekend long, also setting the fastest laptime in the Clio Endurance by a clear 3/10ths. Gave me a huge scare in the TVRs at Trial Mountain though when I rounded the corned before the 2nd tunnel, following him into the wall, but as his car rotated in front of me I missed the back end of it by mere fractions of the width of a mosquito's leg hair! Now hoping that Ricardo has managed to recover the gamesave that I backed up for him and will come back to SFGTP6 where I promise to have got rid of the embarrassing mental name block that afflicted me on Day 2, sorry! :guilty:

EDK: SFGTP's lubrication specialist! Kept us well fuelled with a vast array of fine ales all weekend long. Tip for anyone: If Kevin asks if you mind him rearranging your fridge, always let him! A master at maximising beer cooling room in an already well cramped space. :D Another active GT5:P convert who took a little readjustment to GT4's quirkier physics he was one of my only co-conspirators in trying to run a Muscle Car Pick'n'Mix! (Unfortunately we were voted down. :() Got his reward when the 'Cuda at El Capitan came out as one of the Dutcho combos, and proved very, very tricky to catch. Almost made his incredible smooth driving style pay by somehow extracting 10 or 11 laps out of the Racing Soft tyres that we ran in the Clio Endurance, a clear 2 or 3 laps difference over anyone else.

ceiling_fan: another ever present of the SFGTP setup, David returns for a 5th bout of madness! Sadly unaccompanied by the infamous Pink Chair (
tombstone.gif
) this time around, it seemed to do him no great harm as he romped to several victories in the FF Race Car Handicap. Selected the devilish Spoon S2000 Race Car on RSS tyres at Opera Paris which is so deceptively grippy that all of us fell foul of turning in waaaay too early on numerous occasions (much to his delight!) and provider of one of the quotes of the weekend in regards to his Lancia Stratos at High Speed Ring... "Uh oh! Uh oh! Stability Not Found!" :) (Both David & Jack were also gracious when a mechanical failure took them out of the running in the Clio Endurance after 37 and a bit laps. :()

Vaxen: My Scotch drinking co-driver for the Clio Endurance, it was Dan's master strategy & ability to coax 8 laps out of his tyres that allowed me to run tyre-munching 6 lap stints and even us out to an average pit window of 7 laps and so attain our victory. Many thanks again for the Balvenie too! 👍 Hoping Dan is going to get much enjoyment out of his RIGGRacing frame as I will too, and will bring it along for SFGTP6 whenever and wherever it happens in the not-too-distant future. I'm glad Dan got to run 2 full days this time round and find his racing groove.

itgirlxx: My lovely, patient and tolerant wife! Not only does Rachel put up with me 365 days a year, she also puts up with my racing, testing and filling the garage with fellow "dorks" (Thanks Maria ;)) twice a year! She does have her knitting buddies over more often than my GTP buddies arrive, but they don't seem to be as competetive and noisy as we are!!!

Again huge thanks to all of you for getting here on time, assisting so well with the setup, your patience with the finicky network issues we had on LAN1, all the equipment you provided and remembering your headphones! :D

Lastly juana b., we missed you, bro. Thanks again for allowing us to use your stuff and hopefully we'll see you for at least 1 day of SFGTP6. 👍

Congrats on the Dutch racing win Kyle. Nice meeting and racing with you! Always appreciate a good clean competitor, even if they do use a controller. :yuck:

Something about not being able to feel the bumps at 200+ down the backstretch of Sarthe II through the steering wheel that's just not right. A huge part of the driving experience is feeling what the car is doing. If you can't do it through the seat of you pants like in a real car, why not at least get it through "Force Feedback"? You can still feel the weight transfer from side to side when you hit some esses just right with the wheel. Personally i just don't get it. Jack said he has trouble in off track excursions with a wheel. OK I can see that. But as good as we all know him to be, I think practice, lots of it, would cure it for him.

Wow Leland, if you flog that controller vs. wheel "Dead Horse" any more you're going to end up with glue! :P

Bear in mind that Alex & Jack did actually spend a good part of the weekend switched over to the wheel from the controller, and Jack hardly experienced the best advert for wheel use when the DFGT that he was using simply and unrecoverably quit shifting 37 laps into the enduro! :banghead:
Imagine if that'd been in hour 23 of a 24hr race!!!!
In the same way that all of us at some point were beaten fair & square by a wheel driver, we all had a controller driver eat our lunch too at some point, and it doesn't make the racing any less fun! ;)

@ PJ-FFL, have you been under a rock since March? :P
五 - "Go!" - SFGTP5 - 11th & 12th July 2009. Date Confirmed. Who's in? was announced back in March of this year, had a vote to determine when it should be, came complete with maps to show where it is, and is the 5th installment in the San Francisco Gran Turismo Party series, which was directly spun off the UKGTP series (United Kingdom Gran Turismo Party) that is run by Famine, after I attended UKGTP5 and learned how easy (relatively) it is to run a LAN party! Since then I've organised 5 in the SF Bay Area, and returned to the UK for UKGTP7.
I'm guessing it's going to be a little offputting to travel all the way from Jamaica for a GT4 LAN, but then again Touring Mars (now Touring Moon!!!) travelled from England to attend SFGTP2 and I've been to England twice from here (albeit "happening" to coincide with business trips though!!!)

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to put anyone down for using a controller. I had some great racing with both competitors. I just don't get it. Feeling the car through the wheel is part, read "Big Part", of my enjoyment. I am just struggling to understand. My apologizes if I've offended anyone.

I would like to point out that I am getting the hang of this quote thing. (added after posting)

It could be that a good wheel costs as much or more than the game console, then you have to come up with something to put it on, then you have to adapt to using it (learning curve).

Any of those could be hurdles for people changing to wheel, particularly on GT4, where there is no apparent "penalty" for using the controller.

It was interesting to see a couple of good controller drivers switching over to the wheel and adapting quickly. But then again, with the cockpit, the wheel setups they were driving on cost more than 5 times the current price for a PS2.

Good point, my mom will never make a 12 year old trave lalone to party with a bunch of online friends.

Well, that and the fact that I'm not well set up for babysitting here!
Our minimum age limit so far has been 17-ish (ceiling_fan) and I'm going to try and keep to 18-minimum from now on as it's easier logistically if everyone can take care of transporting themselves (which most people can by 18) and it certainly helps to be over-21 for the Saturday night beers & meal as they usually check IDs at the weekends at the place we go to.
It sounds like you have about 6 years before you can realistically consider making one of these events, by which time, hopefully, GT5 might actually have been released!

On another note, I've put up a sneak peek of the cars and events that were run on Day 1 & 2, although there's no actual race results yet... Got in from work at 8PM today so I'm buggered if I'm doing it tonight!

It is recommended to bring a range of Thomas the Tank Engines. I hear Smallhorses has a soft spot for the fat controller...

How about this? Given to me the day I was born. :ouch:

Again, don't know how this works, but it's supposed to be a photo of the stuffed Bunny and Bear of mine given to me the day I was born. I also have a stuffed Venusaur, Pokemon cards (fun game), various board games and all my old D&D stuff. Yeah, I've been a dork a very long time.

It worked!!!!
