GP of Brazil 2007

I'm aware they were broken, I just complained. I thought people were allowed to complain? Guess not these days.

Anyway, tyre issue has been settled. McLaren fined and that's that.

McLaren have been fined 15,000 euros for using two sets of wet weather tyres during the first day's practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Under Formula One's sporting regulations 'no driver may use more than one set of wet and one set of extreme weather tyres during P1 and P2'.

However Lewis Hamilton, together with Honda's Jenson Button and Super Aguri's Takuma Sato, used two sets of the tyres in damp conditions during the first free practice session at Interlagos on Friday morning.

The other two teams will also have to pay the fine, while the drivers will not allowed to use the spare set of tyres again during the weekend.

The rules infringement means a turbulent start to the GP for Hamilton, who on Sunday goes in search of the world title in his rookie season.

Hamilton leads the battle for the drivers' championship by four points over Fernando Alonso, with Kimi Raikkonen, who emerged quickest from the opening session, a further three behind.

The 22-year-old later set the fastest time in Friday's second practice session, with Alonso second and Raikkonen fourth quickest overall.

I didn't mean to complain about your complaint. Feel free to express whatever you want here, otherwise it would get boring and then I would complain about that.

again the team gets fined, but nothing to effect the drivers, hmm suspicious, not that I care really, I am quite glad to see that we have all 3 drivers going for the race unimpeaded, unless you count alonso slowing kimi, but then who cares its practice.

Maybe he's saving the engine?

possible. I would contemplate that if I was in his shoes.

No, he is not. Friday runs are done with a different engine, so if he wanted to save it, he'd run like mad on Friday, and run little on Saturday.

Rules were broken, and a punishment was given in a way that still allows a 100% fair fight (in this case)

All is good. :D

Spike and Darkfinal. The Hamilton and Alonso of GTP.

" No, he started it"

 I nearly choked on my pizza...

Not many complained eh? Could that be because not many believe it's a stupid law perhaps? Or are you still under the impression that anyone with anything bad to say about Alonso hopes he practically falls off grid sometime soon?

Not pitting until the pitlane is open under a safety car during a race where doing so could give a big advantage with a stop and go penalty
or
Not using two sets of wet tyres in practice, despite gaining fack all with a grid penalty (hypothetically, probably what they'd get if they do)

Which is more stupid I wonder :indiff:

For what it's worth though I complained about the Canada incident, though that was solely down to losing points in the constructors (though academic in the end). He'd already started pissing people off with his childish behaviour by then :)

The "stupidity" of the rules is reflected in the punishments - a 10 second stop/go penalty vs a small fine. There is an advantage to running 2 sets of wets though - if you run in a set if inters in practice, you don't spend 2 or 3 laps on race day hemorrhaging time whilst you wear the sheen off them. See Coulthard in Shanghi.

I have to say I didn't like the pitting-under-the-safety-car rule thing. Firstly, if you're running on fumes and have to come in, your race is screwed due to an accident that probably wasn't your fault in the first place. Secondly, it makes for dull racing in certain circumstances - e.g. McLaren at Monaco.

Third, it prevents that exciting everyone-dives-into-the-pits-but-look-that-guy-stays-out.

Making pitstops a procession under safety car conditions, not another aspect to racing.

True on the safety car point. But at the same time you could consider that perhaps the team should be pitting before a car ends up running on fumes? All it takes for a car running on fumes is a simple human miscalculation and bang...out of fuel 4 turns before the pits...swings and round abouts I suppose...

I was watching today the FP2 live and noticed with a damp track and a dry race line that if you went off line with one tyre, then you will lose it. Is that also because of the asphalt layer or just the wetness of the track?

Guess which one's the right one ;)

If I'm not mistaken, they have a rule to prevent that, forcing everyone to run and extra lap or two of fuel during the race? I must've heard that somewhere on the TV...

The plot thickens

If its a dry race, I put my money on hamilton.

If its wet the tyre penalty will definitely hurt him and who knows what the outcome would be.

The tyre penalty seems totally appropriate to me. You scrub a set of tyres, you gain an advantage. That advantage must be deleted and reversed... I assume it'd even happen at Sepang, when the championship's wide-open.

Can't say I've heard that rule myself tbh...though you may be right...I'm sure someone will know either way. If not I think I'll have a "Question Mark" question sent to ITV lol

Thought I'd put SkySports summary of who needs to finish where for either of the drivers to win the title...

HAMILTON:
# If Hamilton is first or second he becomes the youngest driver and the first rookie to win the title, no matter where Alonso and Raikkonen finish.

# If Alonso wins Hamilton must finish second.

# If Alonso is second Hamilton needs to be third or fourth.

# If Hamilton is fifth he will need Alonso to finish out of the top two. It does not matter where Raikkonen finishes.

# If Hamilton is sixth or seventh he will need Alonso to finish out of the top two and Raikkonen not to win.

# If Hamilton is eighth the only way he can take the title is for Alonso to finish out of the top three and Raikkonen out of the top two.

# If Hamilton retires from the race or scores no points he will need Alonso to finish fifth or worse and Raikkonen to be third or worse.

ALONSO:
# If Alonso wins he will need Hamilton to be third or worse to take the title.

# If Alonso is second Hamilton will have to be sixth or worse.

# If Alonso is third he will need Hamilton to secure only one point and Raikkonen not to win.

# If Alonso is fourth Hamilton will have to score no points with Raikkonen outside the top two.

RAIKKONEN:
# Raikkonen needs to win with Alonso and Hamilton out of the top two and five respectively.

# If Raikkonen is second he will need Hamilton to score just one point and lonso to be out of the top three.

# If all three finish level on points, Raikkonen would win the title on race wins.

Exactly. It's not like Alonso pitted because he wanted to - He was running out of fuel and he HAD to stop. So, just because another driver crashed, he was automatically forced to be punished with a Stop&Go or leave the race. Now THAT'S awfully stupid. If they really wanted to avoid other drivers to take advantage of the SC, well... Just allow those who have to pit in and make them drop to their original position while the SC is still out. Otherwise you're just punishing a driver for something he hasn't done, neither his team.

Well, I'm the only Spaniard here.

... Diego doesn't count, he's canarian. :D

I agree that punishing those who decided to pit after a crash.. But in Alonso's case, he was already scheduled, with the mechanics ready - he was a corner or two away from the pitlane.

Crap! I missed Q1 because of that stupid finger frenzy game!!!! :banghead:
But thank god i get to catch Q2 and Q3. Well it was an okay qualifying. As everyone expected, Massa would get pole. But i was surprise when Hamilton went faster in the 2nd sector. As for Alonso, i think he's gonna complain about his setups again.....

Well there will be no rain until Sunday evening or even Monday, which really makes the race all the less spectacular. But it should be great to watch none the less. As for the others, well i can't say much. Too bad Rubens got knocked out of Q3 at the last moment. The Renaults are struggling as usual and the Toro Rosso could only do what the can. No top 8 finishes i supposes. The Red Bulls seems fast here, but its more likely a light fuel load than anything.....*sigh* was it really that boring?

Indeed. Might be a boring one, unless one of the top four does something silly.

"Do what they can"? They're P13 and P14, that's pretty good for such a team. Renault are P17, so take it into perspective...

*sigh* was it really that boring?

Yep, it was.

R.I.P Spyker :(

The new owners of the Spyker Formula 1 team will change the team's name to 'Force India F1' new owner Vijay Mallya confirmed on Saturday at Interlagos. The Indian business man revealed the new team and said he already requested permission for the name change at the FIA.

Mallya said about his team's new name: "We have already made a decision on the logo. The logo will have the colours of the Indian flag. The livery though will obviously be decided by our sponsors because the sponsors will probably like to see the car compatible with their logos."

Well i know its good, but it wasn't like the last 2 races. Well i guess they better do the rain dance if they want to have a good finish (and give a more exciting race as well :D)

Crap! What name is that? Force India F1? What the 🤬? I thought Kingfisher F1 would be good, but that!? I guess Vijay Mallya have no taste for a good team name. But really, that is got to be very racist doesn't it? Can only think for himself and his country, and the rumor of having 2 Indian drivers, pff..... :grumpy:
But then again, i would really miss Spyker..... :( They almost reminded me of Minardi F1. Got to love the effort they did just to end up last. But at least Sutil was there to give all he got.... a great asset in my mind. Hope he does get to be in a better team.....
