Grand Prix de Monaco 2017Formula 1

ICEMANNNN

This is what Monaco will look like tonight. I remember when I was there at the 2013 GP, they'd taken all the good spots at Rocher.

Unlikely because of Parc Ferme rules.
Yeah, but there's always some things going on about that "rule". Like, for "security reasons" which isn't even that far fetched in this case.

Lauda also said something like "we'll check what's wrong with the car" (don't recall what he said exactly but didn't sound like they're just doing nothing).

Interesting to see whether or not Merc just transfer Bottas' setup to hamiltons car and take the pit start. I know Hamilton is against taking a teammate's data but clearly his setup isn't working or he just cracked under pressure

Huh? Since when?

Yes, they're allowed to do that, all the teams are.

Since always? They just have to say "something is wrong with *insert car part here*

See?

Mr Lauda said they already did that for the qualifying, but "it didn't work" and "it could be something with the car" (obviously).

Of course. You are probably aware that your earlier post gave a completely different idea of what we should infer:

Yeah, but there's always some things going on about that "rule".

Are you aware that the teams have to clear any changes through the Technical Delegate and scrutineers? They don't just get 15 minutes out of sight with a toolbox because "erm, something's... y'know..."

Like, for "security reasons" which isn't even that far fetched in this case.

Security reasons when? In what case? I'm none the wiser.

No news about a yes/no penalty for Hamilton because he slowed down during practice?
This is not his weekend. He misses Rosberg ;)

You asked since when. I answered.

And you're still not happy?

Thus the last part of your post doesn't make any sense, sorry.

It happens all the time...

The only thing I'm not sure if there's a penalty if teams do something to fix a "potential security risk" after qualifying.

You said "rule" as if it's not really a rule or it's something that's regularly flouted. I was naturally interested to find out more about your thoughts on that.

You still haven't said what "security risks" you're talking about - I can't ever in the history of F1 remember a security issue affecting parc ferme?

I don't think there's any suggestion of him having a penalty though?

If the team elect to alter the car then he'll start from the pit-lane by default but that's their choice.
I meant if he got penalised for aborting laps, backing off too much, and ruining other drivers' laps as a result. If it happened to him you'd see outrage.

Apparently, Lewis lost his focus while entertaining his rich and beautiful friends and guests during practice. The stolid Valtteri kept his head down and his nose on the grindstone. One came to work and the other to play. Lewis isn't the first to be seduced by the charms of Monaco.

It's nice to see Mclaren on the upswing for sure, hopefully there will be some action during the race tommorrow

Where is your proof? Is this another "U.S. military report seeing Djinn"?

Your knowledge of the history of various motorsports is enviable, so you of all people should be able to think of any number of World Champions who lived their entire lives at the absolute edge while still turning in performances that went down in history. Hamilton's no different... although you could say that his life is actually very tame (and sober) compared to some of history's hero tearaways.

It seems that for both drivers the car is able to suddenly "switch off" the tyres. It's starting to make me wonder if Mercedes have got two drivers whose mechanical needs are the near opposite of one another's. There have been few times this season when they've both been able to extract maxmimum peformance from the car.

In other news... Ricciardio is already furious at Red Bul for a "strategic error" and that was on Saturday :)

EDIT: Button to start from pit lane.

I'm really hoping Stoffel can bring some smiles in the Mclaren garages today. His pace in qualifying was mental, too bad he messed up in Q3...

Cheering bigtime for Ferrari, Stoffel, and HAAS today!

Lucky as in Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, Force India, Williams, Torro Rosso, Renault, Sauber and Haas all break down?
Will need more luck than that, starting and finishing a race is not a given with current Honda PU. ;)

I wonder if Stoffel will have to start on same compund tyres he did his Q2 run on or if they can change? Car looked like it had good pace, think P5 would have been possible in Q3. They might lack more race pace due to PU, but I think chassis strengths should help them overtake. Will be interesting to see if Lewis can get ahead of Stoffel easy or not with power advantage. I hope somehow Jenson and Lewis make it on the podium, strange things can happen in Monaco.

If there is a GP2 style start, Jenson should be able to stay out of trouble with his pit lane start and hopefully his PU works fine. Probably be just a boring race but never know with these wider cars. Small accident could trigger a chain reaction.

I wonder what tyres Lewis will use at start, maybe go for SS and hope to pit early for US if there is safety car and then make it to the end or start on US and pit towards near end of race or if there is any VSC or SC situations at right time. Hopefully Lewis, Jenson and Stoffel can overtake cars without crashing. Will make race interesting, boring if they crash out early.

I'm getting nervous and excited for this race. 30 minutes and counting down. First grab an ice cold Bavaria (not Heineken :) ) and then the race can begin. Enjoy!!

I've prepared dinner ready for the oven (roast salmon), prepared desert (proper Yorkshire rhubarb crumble a la Ten), and chilled a box of Boddingtons. Bring it on! *burp*
