I'll be making sure that everyone is 100% on these procedures before the green flag on Friday, don't want any confusion during the trials. Lap counter will likely be set to about 58 to allow for cool down.

Here are the IndyCar Awards for S2, partly based on Knelly's Cup awards. voting isn't open yet but you're free to nominate people 👍

GTP IndyCar Championship: Automatically awarded to the points leader at the close of the season. NO VOTE.

GTP IndyCar Constructors Championship: Automatically awarded to the team points leader at the close of the season. NO VOTE.

Borg-Warner Trophy: Automatically awarded to the winner of the Indianapolis 500. NO VOTE.

Race Battle of the Season: Awarded to the two (or more) drivers that put on the best battle for a position (not necessarily the lead) in a single race. The longer and cleaner the battle, the better.

Rookie of the Season: Awarded to the best driver for this season, that participated in no more than 4 races last season.

Unluckiest Driver of the Season: Awarded to the driver that exhibits the worst luck, through no fault of his own, over the course of the season.

Driver Rivalry of the Season: Awarded to the drivers that have the best rivalry for the season. A good rivalry should involve battling each other for poles, wins, finishing positions, laps led, or team owner points.

Driver's Driver of the Season: The driver that everyone respects for their high level of performance and clean driving habits.

Most feared driver: The driver, that with one lap to go, you absolutely do not want to see in your rear view mirror.

Best Oval driver: The driver that you think is the best all-around driver at Daytona, Indy, SSRX, and Motegi.

Best Road Course driver: The driver that you think is the best all-around driver at the road and street courses.

For best battle, I would have to nominate the three-way dogfight for the lead (and later the win) between myself, IndyWolf, and FastFox400 at Indy to start the season. Every single lap was contested cleanly and the race to the line was very close.

That was an awesome battle Drop, was sat right behind it. My pick would be Joe and myself duelling for three quarters of the race at Tokyo for the lead, most of it spent less than a second apart pulling tenths back on each other lap on lap. Epic racing.

Note - Voting opens after the finale and will be open for two weeks. All votes are to be PM'ed to me for confirmation (if you don't, they won't count), but you're more than welcome to share your picks on the thread.

Tidied up.

No way.. I have some say in it, missed the first two races this season, lost the lead to joe at SSR5 with 5 laps to go and a few more things.

I've missed a few, involved in multiple oval wrecks this season, not to mention SSR5's delayed grid start, and got a huge lead at HSR three times only to have it ruined by cautions.

Btw losing the lead is your own fault. :P
And Joe has the feared driver.

Biggest battle all season has been between me and my car setups :grumpy:

Battle would be Joe and Tom at Tokyo.

Feared, Joe

Ovals, Tom

Roads, Joe, Tom, Smuffy, Cowboys

Respected, Tom and Joe

Not to put a downer on the GWC and photoshoot idea but if everyone quits out then there is no replay. Of course we can trial this in a 10 lap race with a GWC and see if I'm right, but I'm sure I am.

Depending on the number of GWC's you'd just have to run out the remainder of the laps at the end right? No big deal, should take 5 minutes or so.

We'd just need the main 'stewards', so Joe, Knelly, you and myself to do this.

EDIT: Oh hang on, so if one guy finishes, everyone can grab the replay? So I could just run the laps out?

I dunno, but personally I like to save the replays whether I need them for stewarding or not, so I will wait to the end anyway.

Oh and after about 50 laps my best was a 1'06.9 so that's a benchmark for everyone :)

Still not liking the track. My best time in Matty's room was a mid to high 1:07, when I wasn't spinning out of turns or hitting walls.

The back really likes to slip out in the slower corners. Once I have my braking points I'll be fine, probably practice tonight 👍

EDIT: Remember to read this guys!

Firestone Gran Premio de España @ Circuito de Madrid Reverse
Friday 29th June 2012

47 + 1 laps (100 miles)

IndyCar hops over the pond to the Spanish city of Madrid this week to begin a fortnight of European street circuit racing. The unforgiving walls, tight corners, narrow streets and tall kerbs are sure to prove a challenge for even the most experienced drivers in the field. This is a pure street track with hairpins, bumpy roads and mad elevation changes mid-corner; not to mention the buildings towering over every portion of the circuit.

Note that new caution rules are being trialled this week. Caution will be called, pits closed and field bunched up at 70mph as usual. Then when the pits are opened and people enter, everybody who stays out will accelerate to 120mph maximum and restart the race single file next time by. The cars that have pitted will be able to go full speed upon exiting the pits and will be able to overtake once green flag is called by the cars that stayed out. This creates a 15-20 second cushion between the groups, a suitable but not over the top penalty for pitting.

Also we will be trialling 'Green, White, Checkered' finishes at this round. If a caution comes out with less than three laps to go in the scheduled race distance (47+1 laps, so the start of lap 46 in the corner of your screen) we'll go into 'overtime'. The green flag will be waved after the caution procedure above, and 2 laps of racing will remain. If there is another caution on the first lap after green, we'll have another attempt at a GWC finish. We will have up to three attempts at this and if there is a caution after the third, positions will be frozen and the race will end in the positions at the time of caution being called.

Alternatively, if we clear that second to last lap caution free and the leader takes the white flag, the next flag ends the race. For example, if there is a yellow flag the positions are frozen at that time and the race will end.

Please not that due to extra laps added onto the GT5 lap counter in order to make GWC finishes possible, the race will not actually 'finish' in the game; I'll make everyone aware of which is the final lap and when the race is done via text and voice chat. Note that if there is no caution in the last 3 laps, the race will end at the close of lap 48 on your counter. After the checkered flag is waved, on the cool down lap, finishers from 4th down must return to pit lane but the podium finishers should congregate on the home straight for a podium photograph for the thread.

Really liking the flow of this track.. 👍

Going to put some testing in shortly. Don't even know where to start by ways of setup :nervous:

EDIT : Got down to 1:10's in a very tired state. Think I've finally found my braking points, but it's so hard to see them being such a busy scenery etc.

EDIT : 1:09.5 is my best tonight. On Mediums.

I did some 1:09s setting up the car so always full of fuel, on softs. this track in this car with a wheel is really awesome.

I think the Target consensus in practice was that we were setting consistent low 1.07's with high fuel regardless of tyre and can pull out high 6's when we string good sector times together.

It's mediums and softs for street courses. We'll get some practice in tomorrow before the race hopefully.

Points of the top 3 with worst results removed:

Joe - 360
Tom - 342
Knelly - 320

EDIT: Motegi Oval testing after the race, Tom?

I'd suggested the usual 650bhp and 710kg for Motegi Oval, but having the power somewhere between that and the 848bhp of Indy may be best. With 650 you can tune to car to run flat out round the entire oval, but with more power you'd have to let off or brake slightly to make turn 3 & 4. It just depends on how we want to run the track.

Maybe alter it for a couple of different races next season? Then one round can be more like a race at Texas (full throttle) and another can be more like a race at Milwaukee/Iowa (letting off).

For the finale I think we'll stick with road specs though.

I like that idea, possibly also adding weight and requiring high or low downforce depending on the situation.

maybe that could be done with Indy too, so the early race would have slower specs and the 500 would have faster specs.

Hit a 1'06.711 earlier at Madrid with neljack on a very low fuel run, and soon after hit a 1'07.1XX with Joe on full fuel.

Drivers thin on the ground for tonight, both KV drivers are out. Looking at 8-9 by the looks of it 👎
