Yeah I thought I only had to use both compounds. 2 sets of softs, is that a real life rule?

Well either way, pen or no pen, it wouldnt matter a position.

In real life the teams are given a limited set of each compound of tires for the entire race weekend and this rule is how we simulate that setup. You see F1 teams not using the softer compound in Q1 of qualifying because they want to save them for the race... or the use them in qualifying and don't have as many sets for the race.

Regardless, it's a rule here and was listed in the regulations so it's a violation.

Here are the provisional results:

20130525_F1MonacoResults_Provisional.png

Before these become official we have several things to do:
  • Review incident reports (we have a couple already)
  • Check tire compliance
  • Check chicane compliance
  • Validate data*

It may take 48 hours before everything is official depending on how many additional incidents are reported.

*My version of the replay is glitched as well as the leaderboard on the saved stream video so please alert me to any corrections to the above table.

Evening Guys.

Awesome racing to all and Bart awesome win.@Twissy ..I still get that pulsating pulpation in my heart when your behind me....Great Stuff.Awesome racing to all and thank you to the organisers of the event 3D3 , Awesome work and thank you to Oink ..awesome comintary.

Thank you all.

I only did a 2stopper ,defo a mistake on my part and think i ran my tyres too long causeing me to loose valuable time.Ive learnt from this and will be ready for the next 1 ,Cannot wait!!

1st Stop : From Rsofts to Rhards - 21laps - Added 25L Fuel
2nd Stop: From Rhards to Rhards - on lap 50 , I believe the game added 42L for my final stint but not sure if the fuel reading was acurate on this stop as i only glanced at it briefly .

Anyway see you all at the next GP or Next Wed depending on my allowance of time...

And a big Thank you again .

Peace!

I'm chuffed with the victory today. Well done to all finishers! You all made this race so special! Thanks for the organisers, Tim especially 👍 Paul, brilliant work on the broadcast 👍
James nearly got me off the line, but I got the better run out of turn 1. Then James kept pushing and the gap stayed at about 1.5 seconds. After the stop I got in front in some clean air and was able to extend the gap. I encountered some cars that respected the blue flag with grace 👍 A lot of traffic in this stint. In my third stint, first stint on hards, I kept a steady pace. On older tires, following a lapped car, I did a semi spin on the straight/bump after casino. I'm glad that was my only mistake of the day, except for some brushes with the walls. On my final pit stop I took the recommended amount of fuel, which was lower than I calculated but I stuck with it. Did some short shifting on a few laps just to make sure. At that point, Wes was shadowing me around the track which was fun ;) and took the checkered flag :)

Strategy:

Softs (19 Laps) - 15 L
Softs (20 Laps) - 27 L
Hards (19 Laps) - 39 L
Hards (20 Laps)

Setup:

Use the tranny trick to get the gears: Reset to default, final gear all to the right, max speed all to the left (300 kph), set individual gears, set final gear.

Gears:
Turn 1 - 4th
Lowe's hairpin - 2nd (trail brake)
Chicane - 3rd
Exit of Swimming pool - 4th
Rascasse - 2nd on entry / 3rd to accelerate

The organizers would like to ask the drivers to communicate the strategies they used. Here's my race for example (do not include the pace lap):

Softs (18 Laps)
Softs (18 Laps)
Softs (1 Lap)*
Hards (19 Laps)
Hards (22 Laps)

*On 2nd pit, I hit OK too soon before changing the tire selection so I came right back in the pits next lap and switched to hards. I also accidentally added all the fuel so I didn't need any on my last stop. Cost me time in pits plus ran full fuel when there was no need and thus could only manage 19 laps on hard for that stint. :dunce:

Softs (17 Laps)
Softs (18 Laps) + 15L
Hards (21 Laps) + 45L
Hards (22 Laps) + 20L

Softs (17 Laps)
Softs (18 Laps) + 15L
Hards (21 Laps) + 45L
Hards (22 Laps) + 20L

Almost my exact strategy (except for my goof up). My original plan was 16/18/22/22 but I kind of took it easy to stay out of dirty air the first stint and tires were too good to pit after 16. Spurgy and TamHablo were battling in front of me and I could close on them but then lost downforce so I just took my time. The guys behind me early were on hards and unable to pressure me... First stint was quite easy. But the last stint was the opposite... Pressure from guys behind on softs and sweat pouring down my face.

Ps. About half way thru the live stream recording. Oink, you did a remarkable job. Good play by play with color commentating and history and driver backgrounds. All while dealing with a glitchy leaderboard. Can't wait to watch the second half. 👍

I checked the start at 3:00.000 and all is very clean. Great job guys.

The first guy to move was at 3:00.350 and it was GhostDriver at 2 km/h. Everyone else was still at 0 km/h... but of course micro-lag is not that accurate. In any case, clean start with no infractions so we can check that off the list. 👍

PS> There was even some crazy lag at the start. Tidgney went from still on his grid spot to left about 2 car widths from some invisible collision with a ghost car. It was weird, but magically it was all good by 3:00.000

Congrats Bart on the win! Great driving!

Great job Twissy to finish 2nd.

I want to thank all the drivers for coming out today, and for making this event a huge success. Some excellent and respectful driving throughout. Great to see no DC's or quits during the race.

Want to thank the organisers for doing all the legwork . Also a massive shoutout to Oink for broadcasting the event, and doing a great job at it :). Watched bits and pieces, saw you doing an excellent job with GT5 glitches not helping. Definitely going to find time to watch it.

Hope to see all of you for round 2. Tell your friends, so we can house two full grids, and hopefully no one will sit out again. Respect for Frank and Gazzi who had to sit out but took it well.

Great race on my part. Will try to do a race report tomorrow. Happy (and surprised) I got the fastest lap. Think it was on my last stint, with racing hard tires.

My strategy:
Soft (15 Laps) + 15L
Soft (14 Laps) + 15L
Hard (16 Laps) + 15L
Hard (15 Laps) + 31L
Hard (18 Laps)

What a race:tup: That was hard and fun same time :)

My race went better than i expected. Only one spun. Some wall touches but not any damages.
I tried to do my best to give blueflag to everyone who need it and it was tough if you were batting your position.

My strategy was drive safely and not trying to do over my talent, not to make any mistake and clean race.
This was my first race with F1 car and it's been hard to learn to drive this beast. A lot of practising, hours after hours and maybe that paid off now with some luck.

Congrats to all drivers:tup: I think we make awsome race.

Big thank to WRS admins and organisers from me too 👍👍

See you next round.

IMO you drove a very good race Joel. It's a pitty you just end up outside the points... Congratulations 👍

Ha your telling me :P scared the crap out of me :P! I just reacted quickly and did the best I could to get back in without knocking others, so may have been slightly out my spot but I couldn't do much with that! Effected my start just slightly as I didn't have much time to balance anything!! But random issues like that effect us all at some point I guess!

@ Bart: - Cheers for posting mate I know I was being slightly cheeky asking yesterday but I'm always interested as I want to try and learn a bit of setup work so nice to see any difference and getting an understanding, so thankyou 👍

It was the special side blowing diffuser I had installed on my car to get ahead of you on the start. seriously weirdest thing I've seen online yet. A flash of something, you flying sideways with a huge crash sound and then silence. You did great to recover and compose yourself for the start.

PS. There are several incidents under investigation at the moment. In fact a near flood of them this morning. Worst part if the job but necessary to keep things going smoothly. It's a holiday here so don't expect official results for another day or so. We appreciate the reports for major incidents, but if its a small thing please just contact the other driver first per the OLR. If you can't come to an "agreement" then escalate to a full report to the stewards. If you can't tell us correct lap of the incident and are too lazy to watch the replay yourself to report it correctly don't bother wasting our time! Make us search and waste our time and your report will be ignored.

No, not cheeky at all ;) I wanted to share the setup, but I finalised it just before qualifying. Not really in time anymore for anyone to switch IMO. To be honest, I'm no setup veteran either. I just tune to a handling that suits my driving style and the track enough for me to feel comfortable to push every lap. I was lucky this setup gave me the space to do that and as an added bonus it returned with even tire wear front to back as well! 👍 As I posted the gearing is a bit wierd, but I found the shortened 2nd gear quite usefull. Let's see how it holds up at the Nürburgring, with some other gearing ofcourse ;)

PS. Congratulations on 8000+ posts Tim! 👍👍👍 Enjoy your holidays.

Thanks mate! A hike with the wife and two sons in store for today.

@Oink: I had your stream on last night and my wife and both kids feel you have a future in broadcasting. You've got a real talent there mate and I'm not joking, totally serious. 👍

True, definitely (and that's a french guy who says this).
Just a shame that he's alone on the commentaries. Would be cool to have 2 guys, like real broadcasting :)

We may arrange that for Germany. I'm not racing as I'll be on the east coast without a PS3... if we can figure out how to feed in a conference call into the stream it could happen...

PS> I was just thinking... a couple guys were placing "bets" on this thread and no "money" was put on PASM. Major oversight on those guys parts. Given our history of events/results it wasn't really a big surprise that we see his name at the top. Good show. I *will* be surprised if we see his name again at the #1 spot in Germany as he won't be sneaking up on anyone next time. :sly: There are some big "guns" pointed your way now Bart!

If I wasn't racing in this I'd love to put my hand up to help out with a duel commentary :D

The way I've done it in the past is via skype. Of course if your not in the race you actually need to be running of the same feed. So in that case your better of having a 3rd party monitor cameras and stuff like that and then 2 people watching from that stream so that there's no difference in timing (As a livestream has a delay).

Thanks guys, that's good to hear. The highlights from Quali are uploading as we speak, I'll be working on highlights of the race to appear tomorrow. I'm yet to actually watch the race back on replay so that should be a bit of fun :)

In terms of 2 commentators, yes, it's very possible, and pretty easy for me to set up, hopefully we can get that going for a future race (potentially the next one if your available for it Tim).

Just as Tidgney said, the ideal situation is for you to both be watching the "same" screen, ie. the stream, or both be in the same room, but that's a bit tricky here! Otherwise there will be some lag in terms of what the 2 guys are seeing, but I'm sure something can be figured out.

Almost my exact strategy (except for my goof up). My original plan was 16/18/22/22 but I kind of took it easy to stay out of dirty air the first stint and tires were too good to pit after 16.

My original plan was S,H,H,S @ 16,23,23,16.. but after starting the race in a 30s hole I needed to catch up so my strategy went out the window and I started pitting when it was good for time and tires. That's one of the reasons my fueling is wacky. The other is that after switching to hards I was getting very close to my pit box while pulling down the fuel load to the 30 I wanted. I just said eff it and put in something in the 40's.

I noticed I was getting much better wear on race day, if things had gone better at the beginning I would really have been tempted to two stop.

So two more steps in getting the results official...

I did spot checks of all drivers for various laps going through the chicane and I'm glad to say I didn't see a single cut of the chicane. I also haven't received any reports of people cutting so I think we can check that task as complete.

Tire compound compliance is another issue. There was a serious glitch in the replay which also affected the live stream. Several drivers are shown as having used softs for more than 2 stints. I've asked several drivers to examine their own replay and report independently and each report had discrepancies with the others so the replay cannot be trusted. In light of that we are just going to grant amnesty for the tires this race as we have no choice. That will extend to Calcifer in this case since he openly admitted to making a mistake and didn't earn points in any case. We do believe all other drivers did comply with the rule, but there is no way to be 100% certain due to the glitch.

Do not count on that glitch happening for the future rounds. In 200+ events I've managed we've only seen it once before so it's very rare. We will be stressing/reviewing the tire rules (use of both compounds plus the two set limit on softs) before future races and enforcing it strictly. Penalties will be harsh if it's not observed and could include a DQ if both compounds aren't used and 1 minute plus penalties (and points) if drivers uses three set of softs. If a driver makes a mistake and puts on the third set of softs during a pit he can self-penalize by pitting the very next lap and no penalty will apply after the race.

Also, in the future we will ask all drivers to check their tires from the pits before starting the race timer. If someone from qualifying round Q3 is on the wrong tires (Not the ones they qualified on) they will be forced to start the race from the pits. If someone further back in the grid has the wrong tires they will just have to start on the compound installed and adjust their strategy accordingly. We believe the glitch appeared after we had to abort the first race and we will not be doing that again in future rounds.

So the last step is now to complete the incident review which is currently underway and will not be complete today. There are several incidents of aggressive driving (dive bombing) and failure to observe the blue flag. All of which will be ruled on in the next 48 hours.

On a brighter note. Qualifying highlights are now live, check them out here:

Highlights from the race will be available tomorrow. I'll post them here as well.

Nice commentary. A slight Bristol twang works rather well on motor racing broadcasts :)

This event looked pretty sweet, great win Bart - not surprised to see you win though, having been in a few races that you've won (and lapped me!)

I will hopefully join in for Germany and/or Spa

Thx. Hopefully we get more drivers (d3/d4/d5) for 2nd room and all qualifiers could run race 👍
IMO you drove a very good race Joel. It's a pitty you just end up outside the points... Congratulations 👍

Some visual on the pit strategies (for those drivers that bothered to submit their data):

PS> Some of you guys who don't race with the WRS regularly may want another crack at some of these drivers that beat you (e.g. Twissy, Tidgney, gooners) without having to wait until July... Check out our races next Wednesday (and every Wednesday). There is a race at a convenient EU time (19:00 GMT) and then a race in a North American time slot (10:00 PM Eastern / 7:00 PM Pacific): Cusco Dunlop Subaru Impreza '08 @ Rome. Now that you are on the GTP_Registry you are welcome to join.

Just finished watching the stream. GJ dealing with all the insanity with the score board oink. Maybe GT5 just hates people named Tim (or Americans!) since WRP and I were really never classified where we were supposed to be. Looked like there was also some lag chunks going around... glad no one d/c'd though; just had to put up with the woes of peer-to-peer network code.

Very interesting to see pitstops in visualtable, thx 👍
First i planned to make 2 pitstop but on sunday morning i did test run (very fast tire/fuel consumption) and after that test i changed to 3 pitstop.
