Because drifting at 150mph with NOS doesn't really do the company much justice. But I suppose the problem is, that EA gives them an offer they cannot refuse. :(

It probably does porsche just fine. I mean, if the cars do well in the game as in perform better than most others and people choose them over others it's probably a better showcase than being lost in a sea of 1000's of cars and being seen less.

It's easy to forget people like arcade games and handling too.

How is this possible?!

It was hidden and only a certain region was allowed to have it. The same thing was done to the Nomad Lambo which is actually a ported car, not a new car that was introduced in GT5 with the other Lamborghinis. If Porsche had been obtained or is obtained, I have a feeling PD will port over this as well.

Ahh, that clears that up for me.

I think I'm right in saying that Kaz has his own GT3 as part of his collection. Could explain partly how it managed to sneak into some versions of the game!

Some Porsches would really add some variety to the car selection - many direct rivals for different car classes could be put in.

I think the 907 would work well with the 60s LM cars we have, the 956 and 962 for the Group C we have. I think some road cars would be cool, and finally the VLN car (GT) that would go with others.

I had the GT walk through book and there was a real life pic of the Nomad Lambo. I thought, why couldnt this car be in the game.

Was the book for GT3 because if so it was in the Japanese version, you and I were robbed sir and we didn't know it until 4-10 years after GT3.

It was in english. But, I did have a japanese chipped and normal PS2. With Japanese GT3 and normal GT3.

I'm certain it will come to fruition, just gonna take a long time. What Kaz said about the length of the current agreement with EA; sounds like it maybe GT8 or 9 before we see Porche

While I'm doubtful that it'll arrive soon. At least we now know that they do want Porsche in the game. A little bit of assurance from Yamauchi-san himself

There was a cheat to unlock it, via game shark I think. But anyways you couldn't unlock it normally you have to have a special device to unlock it and it was just like the same thing with the Lamborghini!
It was a hidden car!

Does anybody know the structure of the contract between Porsche and EA? I find it hard to believe that Porsche would give up advertising across multiple games and platforms.

Basically Porsche let EA control all of the video game licensing deals.

I'm pretty sure someone from here sent Porsche an email about it some time ago.

maybe their terms and agreements states that only EA can use the Porsche license (strictly exclusive) except if negotiated, Turn 10 acquired a sub license for it for Forza 4(which probably cost a lot of money). If you compare it to Turn 10 and Ferrari, they get first dibs on the new models maybe (like the LaFerrari for example) but very much keeps it open to licensing for other developers. That's how I see it, I may be wrong though. :)

Here's what i'm wondering.

Suppose they do add Porsche some time in the future. Does RUF get placed into the tuner category with NISMO or do they keep their normal car status? There's some people that wouldn't want to choose a 996 GT3 in arcade mode when the RGT accomplishes the same thing better.

In the words of RUF's bio in GT2:

"Although some may argue that RUF simply modify the products of a famous German sports car maker, the transformation of its road cars is so complete that the company is an official car maker in its own right."

Always loved the inane and overly complex way PD dodged saying Porsche. :D

But in all seriousness, RUF is listed as its own manufacturer in Germany, so I'm more than positive that it would be left as another brand.

I'm curious. Was it ever assumed that Kaz just... didn't want Porsches in GT or something? It's always been pretty plain that the issue was one of licencing, so what news does this interview actually make about anything?

Hauyra was a similar situation i believe with a game, so it was exclusive for a year. Now alot of games have it.

Huayra was a timed exclusive, meaning that only for a certain time it could be featured in EA's game. The Porsche license has been constantly an exclusive to EA with a option to "sub-license" to others (assuming said devs have enough money to make this deal happen).

New that but it shows that EA have enough money to close off other developers even if its a worse portrayal of it. Huayra look amazing in this, forza and driver club.........pagani fell for the money.

Porsche will back out now the ghost studio will never go back to the shift series which was the closest thing to, if not their best racer. After all, nissan is in love with GT but is in every game out there, why can't porsche wee the opportunity (its also the GTRs main rival too)

I think this thing about Porsche possibly being in a future GT title has a 35% chance of coming true. And I for one have had a slight sigh of relief because of that.

We pretty much knew that Kaz always wanted Porsche in GT. He even owns one for crying out loud

On a side note: Does anyone have an idea of when the contract ends?

Youngun you said "Porsche will back out now the ghost studio will never go back to the shift series which was the closest thing to, if not their best racer. After all, nissan is in love with GT but is in every game out there, why can't porsche wee the opportunity (its also the GTRs main rival too)"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't NFS shift try to be a somewhat serious racer. And wasn't the first race of NFS shift done in a GT-R at Suzuka's shortest course.

Same question I asked, and I even proved that he has wanted them in the game for some time now before this interview.

It was Slightly Mad Studios who developed Shift to correct you. And yes, the first race was in the NFS Edition GT-R where you can change the settings to your liking.
