@ALB123 It's to meet the needs of casuals who just want the rewards. Gold with the controller should take no more than 5 laps for a competent GT player. The rankings board on the other hand... I need to give this TT another crack in the next 10 days!
Of course they make most of the events easier so more GT6 players can gold events, stay happy and continue to buy future releases. However, you've got to admit that they really cranked up the difficulty factor on the four Overtake Challenge's. Heck, there is a very active thread in this forum dedicated to whining about the Holiday Seasonal's being too difficult.
In my opinion, Bronze Medals should be set at a level where newbies are going to struggle, but just about every single person with at least a National A license CAN obtain the time required as long as you are not crashing the car and you're putting in an honest effort.
Silver Medals should be quite a bit more difficult. Barring just dumb luck, it should require
about the skill level it takes to get through the Super license level endurance races. You've got to have decent control over higher powered cars and you're actually thinking on the level of a racer: memorizing braking zones, monitoring RPMs to analyze whether you're better off being in a higher gear here, or a lower gear there to maximize the power coming out of corners, etc... Basically, I think Silver times should be almost what Gold times are now...Maybe just a pinch less demanding.
Gold Medal times should require silky smooth driving. Yes, the Aliens will still beat them by 4-5 seconds, but not 8-9 or more, like they do now in some events. A person like myself should struggle, as I did with some of the Overtake Challenges. There should be some Seasonal Events that I just can't get Gold no matter how hard I try.
Either that, or add a Platinum Medal level to the game like I suggested in a different thread.
Still, the problem I have with the Overtake Challenges is you're really just trying to get your timing down to get around the first few cars. They pretty much drive identically every single restart. Too many people demand instant gratification. Many scream for realism, but then they also want to be able to drive faster laps than a Formula One driver can in real life.
I don't have any experience at all in other Sims, but I'm planning on at least trying some PC Sims in the next year or two. I really hope they are "better" in that regard. Sorry for getting off topic.
