What benifits do black people get that white people dont?
Ever heard of affirmative action? A Supreme Court case in the US in 2003 surrounded the use of race in acceptance of students. The students were chosen based on a points system and if you were black you automatically got extra points. So a white student who had an equal background and grades as a black student would lose out. Fortunately the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional.

Here's the story on the case from CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/06/23/scotus.affirmative.action/

Also, there are many scholarships and financial aid opportunities for minorities only. Could you imagine what would happen if there were white only scholarships? Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be screaming bloody murder on TV. They already say the system is unfair.

Can anyone explain to me how affirmative action is not a form of racism?

As I've said before. There was a time for it. When there were many laws making it impossible for blacks to get jobs. However, that time has since past and there is no reason I can think of for a racist policy.

I think danoff might be right about white people being less racist. However, I'm guessing danoff is Caucasian(or he's really lucky!). I'm an Asian male, I've experienced plenty of racism. I can speak English without any accents, and I'm somewhat taller than most Asian people. From what I understand, Asians with accents and shorter stature experience even more racism than I do. 👎

Oh, well I'm not aware of what he said so I'll butt out of this one.

Fair enough, so here it is.

washington post
West: I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family, it says, "They're looting." You see a white family, it says, "They're looking for food." And, you know, it's been five days [waiting for federal help] because most of the people are black. And even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I've tried to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what is the biggest amount I can give, and just to imagine if I was down there, and those are my people down there. So anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help -- with the way America is set up to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off, as slow as possible. I mean, the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize a lot of people that could help are at war right now, fighting another way -- and they've given them permission to go down and shoot us!

(West throws back to Myers, who is looking like a guy who stopped on the tarmac to tie his shoe and got hit in the back with the 8:30 to La Guardia.)

Myers: And subtle, but in many ways even more profoundly devastating, is the lasting damage to the survivors' will to rebuild and remain in the area. The destruction of the spirit of the people of southern Louisiana and Mississippi may end up being the most tragic loss of all.

(And, because Myers is apparently as dumb as his Alfalfa hair, he throws it back to West.)

West: George Bush doesn't care about black people!

It's statements like this, especially when embraced by fans(that tend to not be the most educated and informed group), that get the media all juiced up.

What I'm talking about has nothing to do with liking him. It's about whether he has a clue what he's talking about when he makes a racist statement towards a person.

Yeah Kanye West is wrong. Bush doesnt care about black people and all non americans.

What type of asian are you? Chinese japanses asian or indian asian?

Were im from ive only heard white people being rascist ive yet actually got to see any black people doing something rascist to someone. Just one question if a non white person starts reffering to someone as white boy would you consider that as racist.

If a white person started refer to a black person as "negro" or "black boy" would that be racist?

I have a half cast asian mate. He can be abit racist sometimes. He doesn't and won't make anything of it, it's just him. He also rarely makes it to a crowd, usually just utters it in frustration.

Also a Pakistani boy was in my year once. He was pretty racist, but the difference was he made a 'thing' of it.

What do you think about buh? Do you like him. He is a hypocrite though isnt he.He does stuff that he doesnt allow other countries to do and basically does what he feels like. Havent you noticed this atleast once. One think about americans is that they never critiscise bush, well not atleast on this site anyway but hell I will tell you what I thinka bout my prime minister I think hes a idiot but sadly there isnt anyone around at the moment that could replace him. A charismatic leader. When the US had clinton everyone loved the U.S its just when bush came into power it tourned sour. Anyway thats off topic but at the moment the public relations isnt faring to well in the US as the majority of black people feel what kanye west feels and countless amounts of rappers say the same thing.

I watched a documentary about race relations in the US and well lets just say people could get on alot better than they do.

I agree there is still racism. I grew up in a farming community with plenty of "rednecks" who had racist attitudes. One of my best friends in school was Korean and many of our classmates had Vietnam veteran fathers who had taught them every racist comment you could make about Asians. The two black families in the community didn't have it easy either, but the only one of them in my age range was a cousin by marriage and her family moved away when I was young. Fortunately it never went beyond verbal comments.

Well, it did once. Someone tried starting something with my friend because he was just a "skinny little Korean kid." They quickly learned that a third degree black belt meant more than waving your arms around making "wah!" noises. I don't remember hearing another Bruce Lee joke after that.

Once out of college I worked and live in a metropolitan city and I found that racism was not very prevelant in this area. The worst you would find were in the poor areas, despite the predominate race. A black person was stupid to wander into the poor white neighborhood and vice versa.

When I married I moved to our state capital (Frankfort, Kentucky) where the economy is purely a service based economy to support the government employees. I still drive the 40 miles to work in the metropolitan city because the money is worth it. However in Frankfort I have found that racism is more prevelant than in my old home town. My wife's coworkers invite us over and then make racial comments and I am quick to inform my wife that we are leaving in 15 minutes. I tried talking them down once and it led to them threatening to fight me.

Based on my life experience I would have to say racism in both directions runs more along the class lines. I have seen more poor and racist people than anyone else. Not to say that I don't know any rich racist people, because I do. It is less common and then not as open. No one is name calling and threatening, they just decide they will move neighborhoods.

There are plenty of racist African-Americans here, along with all other races of racists. If someone call white person a, "white boy" and he wasn't joking, then yes, I'd think that's racism.

Yeah indian asians can be quite racist as there is a mentality among them that they are above eveyrone else and they go on about how they they work hard and everyone else is lazy.

What would be the name of it and the person that created it? I am just curious because as a person actually living in America I would love to see what the perspective is.

Also, a good reality check on any "documentary" is a good idea. I saw one about Bush and 9/11 once and well, apparently Bush wanted 9/11 to happen so he could take us to the war in Iraq. Of course the maker of the "documentary" will admit to being biased and trying to paint Bush in a bad light. Not all are so open with their biases.

Ok, so your opinion is really based on nothing. Just the fact that "everyone" liked the US with Clinton and doesn't with Bush? You said that he does stuff in America that he doesn't let others do. Like what?

Also, I'm black and I don't feel that way at all. I'm really, really tired of black people claiming "the man" has me down and all that crap. If they wanted to get out, I mean really wanted to, they could. But it's easier to wait for a handout and whine then it is to work.

Blacks are every bit as racist as whites. And it doesn't matter who "started" it. I know black guys that will only deal with whites if they're "below" them in an economic level and vice versa.

Ever heard of Jammu & Kashmir? What you just said is akin to calling Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness "Unionists".

Swift if what you say is true its worse than I thought it was in the US. Although things are now starting to get worse in london aswell as more africans are coming over and there are basically atleast 4 way gangwars. White kids vs africans vs carribeans vs somalians. Usually white people and carribeans get on very well everyone has gangwars with somalians and africans are really starting to come up and taking over from everyone when it comes to illegal activity and guns.

Something seems to be causing this rift and many people are saying its because we are too segragated in which people all live together with people of their same race creating little countries within a country.

Sounds like Danoff's post about the tribe mentality to me. This happens all over. Ever heard of China Town or in the city I work in we have German Town. Peopel cling to others like themselves.

What was the name of that documentary? I am still curious about that.

Racism has always been spurred by economic differences(in a free society). Of course, America wasn't always a free society. But usually, when you see a black guy in a suit and a black guy that looks like your average rapper, you'll have more respect for the guy in the suit though he cheats on his wife and his taxes. But the rapper looking guy has a job and goes to college at night.

What I'm saying is that racist attitudes general come from the actions of the have nots on the the haves. Then you get stereotypes and all the other garbage that comes into racisim.

Quick question. What's the funniest racist statement you've heard? I always thought the, "Go back where you came from" was funny because their ancestors brought mine over here against their will. So I always reply, "If you don't want us here, why'd you send the boats?" :sly:

My reply to that most of the time is, "You don't look like no American Indian, you first!". :D Wait! :ill: Does that mean if I was asked by an American Indian, I have to go back?

Ok now that we have discussed it do you guys think we can all agree on a verdict which I think will be somewhere along the lines that in everyrace there is a racist person and that it works all ways round.

Yes yes I fully well know that somalians are from africa but in london somalians just hang around with other somalaiand and all the other africans stick together. Africans and somalaians do not get on well at all.

That's like the carribean's calling Black Americans "fake". Oh well, whatever.

Nothing worse then people fighting amongst themselves.

Black on Black "racism" is the worst.

Whole new can of worm, right there. In Asia, it's mostly based on the nationalities, but I agree. It's even more pathetic. 👎

I can now tell the difference between say a Korean, Chinese and Japanese. Though I'm not sure I'll match them all up with the correct nationality. But I can tell the difference, so I've got at least 80% of Americans beat. :dopey:

I'd pay to see that.

Somalis in one corner and in the other, coexisting happily, Ugandans, Nigerians, Congolese, Rwandans, Burundians (these two should get on famously), Mozambicans, Sudanese, Ethiopians...
