We just finished, and let me start by saying that the race was absolutely outstanding. Great compitition, and clean and fair driving. We did have one rage quitter, but what are ya gonna do?

Race rankings are as follows.

1: PaulJ_85
2: GTP_ChrisR1984
3: MattieM
4: Zolon32
5: Tuner307
6: Andy-Macnab
7: Leonardo887
8: TheFreeQ
9: M8h3r
10: Johnwells69
11: Acl_13

Thanks for the great race to those who participated.

Well done Paul, must say on the first two laps, being 2nd between you and Chris was intimidating, my best lap being a 40.970 and you two both doing 38.xxx

Last five laps made this race for me. Rain comes in but not in time and I have to pit for another set of Sports tires. Both me and TheFreeQ on sports tires with damage in wet conditions, sliding everywhere. Reminded me of Hamilton vs Kovalinen. Plus the side by side action through Eau Rouge with you was scary :P

PM me if you do another and I'll join.

Was a great race. Re watched the replay (well highlights of it) and it was great watching the battle with Chris at the start. Essentially, if I was ahead, he'd be in my slipstream and I'd be knackering my tyres trying to get away... so I let him pass... then sat in his slipstream... then noticing MattieM was catching us, I got past again... once again, Chris was in my slipstream.

I knew I had to do something to break out of this cycle, so even though I didn't need to pit - I knew if I did, I had a chance in the outlap to break free of Chris (we were lapping at that time around 2 min 42's and on fresh tyres I could do a 2 min 38).

The problem was, I knew if he saw me pit - he'd just follow me in or wise up to it. So as we approached the chicane, I let him slip past, then I nipped into the pits behind him knowing he couldn't follow me in. Then when I got out of the pits I pushed maximum attack for a few laps... when Chris eventually came out of the pits himself he was 6.4 seconds behind me... it had worked - I was free of the slipstream on him and I could power away.

... well, although Chris was now matching my pace and had fresher tyres than me ... the battle was on.

I just pushed hard and chris matched ... a few laps I stretched up to 8 seconds ahead, but then disaster, around lap 16 my tyres were feeling tired again! I knew I had to get near to lap 18-20 before a pit, so I kept it out there while I watched chris catching ... 7 secs behind, 6.5... 5.8.... I had to throw in the towel and pit. Any more time on those tyres and he'd get close enough to use slipstream and it'd all be over.

So I chucked it into the pits, but Chris followed immediately (this may have been his biggest mistake as his tyres were still fresher). We both exited the pits and I got on it, for a while around 6 seconds apart... chris sometimes gaining a few tenths, then me gaining some... then I started pulling away (around lap 23) ... I assume Chris knew we would have to go a long time on these tyres and so was pacing himself, I was now thinking if it came to it, I could fit another stop in and maybe be ok? Plus I had figured out that the core wear to the tyres were under braking and the tighter corners... taking it easier through these and the tyres weren't wearing as bad.

... lead went up 7 seconds, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 seconds... I was now thinking either way I had it covered - even if my tyres fell off on last few laps I could absorb the loss in pace.

Around lap 28 the rain was falling hard, I still had over half my tyres left and surprisingly Chris pitted. I knew I had it in the bag, just drive round and take it easy - let a few back markers on wets like tuner307 go past and hold tight...

... however, disaster on the 29th lap - I went to over take leonardo and he must have thought I was racing for position and bumped me several times. The car was a wreck - I couldn't complete the race like this and so limped round to the pits and pitted in... about 40 seconds lost - and the final 30th lap on an un-needed fresh inter tyres - but I was home and dry with a 17 second lead over Chris.

- Great race!

Andy, I was under the impression that we HAD to change to Inters or Wets at 20% surface water.. I just wonder if you could clarify for future events.

I actually made the pitstop and was messing with my fuel and stupidly just pressed ok with mediums still on so i just carried on.

Was a great race, i just made some silly decisions really and shouldnt of pussy footed around i should of just gone for it but never mind.

:)

That was a really good race. Sorry for the bumps Paul. Your car was lagging a bit and I wasn't expecting the leader behind me.

Nice race everyone, especially Paul, well done fellas. My race can be summarised quite easily;

Made a 2:39.5 in quali and started 11th (Mattie 12th!)......hmmmmmmm.

Brain fade lap 4........crash, serious damage.

Excellent few laps battling with Tuner around laps 10-14. Frustrating for him though with the straight line speed advantage the C8 has.

Ridiculous tyre strategy saw me doing the last 16 laps on the same set...........(idiot)

Lap 30, totally clapped out sports tyres and 50% surface water. Heaven. (I should just do ice racing.)

Cheers, Z. Must do something similar (Stock cars at 600pp round 40 laps of Suzuka on comfort softs anyone?) some time soon.

i did a 2:39:6 or 7 in quali, i think changing the weather before starting the race somehow resetted the starting order. I expected to be more up front on the starting grid. Starting from 12th place does had one benefit, i did'nt need to worry about someone crashing into me at the first corner.

First 5 laps i had to battle through the field to find myself about 15-20 sec behind the leader at 3th place. That was the best i could do. Only with fresh tyres i was able to prefent increasing the gap on the leaders, sometimes i gained some, sometimes i losed a little.

Good race and congratulations to the winner.

Are you talking about a drift competition? :) I would love to see an one make endurance on the Nurburgring GP/F. Or maybe on the Nordschleife, but that is not a great track for close racing.

I've always said that after 20%, it was free choice. Never have I said anything different.

EDIT:

I'm very confident that changing the weather does nothing to the starting grid positions. Never did before. It's just bugged.

Yes this was a very good race more learning for me and I didn't come last. I didn't crash, got a bit slipery towards the end, on medium tyres. Good race everyone.

Another bug they will have to fix!!!!

Let me know when we are racing again.

A free choice between inters and wets yea, but do we have to change tyres at all if we are happy on sports meds @ 20%?

Nope. The choice is all yours. That said, the people on inters and rain tires will be much faster when surface water hits 50% :D.

I was last:grumpy: Crashed a few times because a little knowledge of the track, tried to avoid you all when lapiing:scared:

See you on the next one, hopefully no SPA

Id love to see Monza with the mclaren mp12c vs the ferrari italia, alternativly something slightly slower like an elise maybe?

I wouldn't mind do a race of somewhere in standard Elise's on racing soft tires. Chuck them things about like there is no tomorrow. Or maybe we could do RM Cappuccino's :)

Your idea is awesome. I would host that, but I really don't have time to organize races.

Really loved the racing with Zolon, uphill at kemmel and before blanchimont was really tough on the m3 but great challenge. Early crash put me out of 4th place but the (forced) change in strategy paid off when the rain came in. Inters were definitely faster at around 20% water.

Well If that happens, I can assure you that it won't be on Racing Softs. Would make it far too easy. The Elise needs to be driven on Sports Hard or worse.

I wondered why I was passing you ACL-13, good race though.

Standard Elise sounds good, even RM Elise.

Just let me know.

Elise with sports meds at the most id say at possibly Eiger.

I'd prefer the Maclaren/Ferrari race personally as i used to drive elises a lot. Monza has issues just like Spa does with potential corner cutting, but its such a great track nobody uses.

My Vote... Mp12c vs 458 Italia @ monza.

Feel free to join.

Uh oh, I just tried to and got a "the network is offline" message :S

Is it just me getting this or is it down for you all too?

I haven't experienced any problems.

It may just be me, I was signed out a few moments later.

I am watching the QPR vs. Man Utd game now but I can come on at about 1:50pm GMT. That is of course if you are still on and wish to do more testing :)

First impressions are pad users might struggle on sports hards.

The MP12-C is about 0.5 seconds faster than the Italia around monza (after quick 6 laps) but was harder to drive, the Italia was slightly more forgiving as it didnt have a turbo and when the turbo kicked in on the MP12-C the back end liked to step out.

Overall a decent 2 cars with very similar performance points and worked well together, possibly add in another car or 2 to give a broader range for selection.

Elise's ive not tried yet.

What are your lap times, Chris? Going to test it later.

Italia - 1'58.2
MP12-c - 1'58.6 (never finished the fast lap but was 0.5 secs up from 458 time at the last split.)

After football I'll come and have a few hot laps. I'll just have to drive the one I'm fastest in cause I would never ever be able to pick between them.

I think we could look at adding the SLS possibly as that (from memory is a more stable car for the pad users but acting like the DB9 in the previous race)
