The nordschleife is horrible in this game

I cant even recognize it from the GT5 version. The road seems a bit too wide, the elevation changes are almost non existent compared to GT5, theres hardly any graffiti on the track, and the worst, there are ZERO bumps in the road. The best part about that track is feeling the bumps at high speeds. I mean just go around the karousel, NOTHING.

Has anyone else noticed how bad it is?

It is far off from the real thing. I can't even play it anyway, though. The steering input lag makes this course a headache with anything remotely fast.

Yeah because graffiti on the track is more important than the basic structure of a VIDEO GAME.

Damn, where's the BBQ on the Nurburgring. Blasphemy. Get the pitchforks out.

Not this again... It's fair for him to be unhappy with poor track models, especially when it's the Nordschleife. It's one of, if not the most significant track in the world, so any game claiming to be a "sim" should do it justice. It's the same deal with Bathurst in Shift 2.

Imagine if a Madden or FIFA game came out with all the wrong coloured uniforms... There would be anarchy!

What irked me was he put a random comment about the graffiti as another bullet point on why it sucks compared to GT5. Just like PD's bulletpoint about 1000 'detailed' cars.

Anyway, at this rate, I'm going to start contradicting my own sig. So complain as much as you like.

No, it's not "perfect" but saying you don't even know where you are? I've played this and the GT5 version and I haven't got lost once. As far as not being able to drive it with anything remotely fast, I've pulled a 6:49 with a works 71 Challenger with no spins or major mistakes. I think you need to up your game, bro.

Its a game get the heck off your high horse if you dont like it trade the game in

I actually have no problem with the accuracy whatsoever, except the width on the start finish "straight" on the tourist layout seem to wide. It is more accurate then Forza's version imo.

Fair go mate, every opinion is valid. I like the game except for the drifty feeling at speed. Its a little to annoying. I don't mean its difficult to play, I mean like someone else said, it gives me a headache.

It is a bit different than the GT5 version. Since I've never driven either in real life, I'm not sure which is more realistic, but I think the GT5 version is funner to drive on.....

One area with a huge elevation difference is coming out of a left hand turn over what I always thought was a short 'bridge' like structure, and then up a right hand blind hill (in GT5). It's almost unrecognizable in Shift 2... Way flatter.....

I dont was in the Ring IRL, and i dont know wich one is the "correct" version, but i read here some members that was in the Ring claim that the Shift version is the most acurated one.

I've been on the track in real life. GT5 is way, way, way more accurate to the real track. I'll be going again in 2 weeks.

Although it looks like a bridge in the game, it isn't really. That hill is very steep and very blind in real life.

I also noticed the Nordschleife was way off from other versions i have driven and the videos of Nordschleife. If you watch the a GT5 video next to the real thing it looks almost identical.

Shift 2 getting this track wrong is just a letdown, it is wider to make it easier to race/pass and it feels like it has been put together with pictures, the elevation changes are strange and some corners just feel different. This is the holygrail of racetracks, if they were to get anything right i would have hoped it would be this.

On a positive note, it is still fun to drive on and graphically it looks amazing, on the PC it looks better than GT5's version, but as far as being realistically accurate and as far as driving experience is concerned the GT5 one is in a league of its own, poor effort by Shift 2.

For me, the Nordschleife being altered so much, is one of the biggest complains I have about Shift 2. I'm usually a die-hard 'Ring fan, but so far, I haven't really driven it all that much.
Shift's version is fun and a nice track in its own right, but it's just another fantasy track to me, so it kinda lost its special appeal to me.

I'm currently spending way more time on Brands Hatch, which is becoming my benchmark track - as opposed to the Nordschleife, which would usual be used as such.

Although it can't be compared to GT5, it remains the best after GT5.

In some areas of fell of the surface Shift 2 provides great challenge to GT5 modeling of curvature of the asphalt. However, when you take a look to all other titles and their modeling of Norsdchleife, Shift 2 actually does a second-best job, despite width and elevation inaccuracies of Arenberg, Bergwerk and Karusel as most notable.

Of course, I'm talking strictly console-wise and without Enthusia Racing in the picture, since it is a last-gen title which probably have among the most accurate Nordschliefe modeling ever done.

I think the one in Forza is way better than shift 2.

I'd like to disagree with that. It's just as flaat and wide, but looks a lot worse and feels even less like the real deal... Or raather, like you'd expect the real deal to feel.

The scenery is what kills it for me, all those shift 2 signs. The track isn't as narrow as people make it out to be.

^ Yeah all those signs look tacky.

But the worst aspect for me is that the game engine don't seem to be able to handle the track well; the drawing distance isn't adequate, with the road ahead disappearing in "fog".

Edit: platform = PS3

👍

I've always thought it was funny how everyone talks about the track being too wide in every game but GT while completely ignoring that it is too narrow in GT. In GT you can hardly fit two cars wide while the real track is not like that...
The Lupo cup in GT5 to me proved that either the track was far to narrow or the car model scale for the Lupo's were completely wrong.

i think many of the tracks seem too narrow in places.
another example is the last complex of Hockenheim.

IRL, Ive raced at many of the european gp tracks and few feel narrow -
though it was in a Caterham, so most tracks felt quite wide :)

not being negative, still think the game is great :)

I agree about Hockenheim.

It is important. you saying its a VIDEO GAME just proves my point. The whole point of having a real race track in a game should be to make it as realistic as possible to the real thing. The graffiti on the track is one of the most important parts of nurburgring. its what gives the track character and uniqueness. When I play it in shift, it makes it feel like im racing around any old track. I want to FEEL like im really driving on the nurburgring. GT5 goes far and beyond that, this game just skims the surface. The only thing I can say is that the driving affects in shift make it seem like Im racing a real car, but not that im on the real track.

Nice Stang! Is it a Shelby? I couldn't hear any supercharger whine but maybe it was just the video...

A mate of mine recently had a 2010 GT500 imported into the country, I've never seen a car turn so many heads!
