The nordschleife is horrible in this game

well, the reason its so accurate is gt5 is because otherwise the tracklist is completely boring, they also have only a handful of realworld tracks.

GT5 has many fake tracks 4 lanes wide, which all are a bore.

Shift 2 has tons of realworld tracks that everyone has wanted in GT for years, but PD gives us more boring fake tracks.

This is true, but there is no denying that the Nordschleife model in GT5 is amazing.

As much as the game was a let down as a whole, I would still own it purely to drive that track. It just doesn't get any better :)

No, it's not "perfect" but saying you don't even know where you are? I've played this and the GT5 version and I haven't got lost once. As far as not being able to drive it with anything remotely fast, I've pulled a 6:49 with a works 71 Challenger with no spins or major mistakes. I think you need to up your game, bro.

+1 I was thinking the same thing. Put some time into these tracks, even if they're not perfect. It's a game, not real life. Play the game for what it is and enjoy it. Run the tracks in an attempt to master them, don't compare them to the real thing and look for mistakes.

You miss so many good qualities when always looking for the bad ones.

It is important. you saying its a VIDEO GAME just proves my point. The whole point of having a real race track in a game should be to make it as realistic as possible to the real thing. The graffiti on the track is one of the most important parts of nurburgring. its what gives the track character and uniqueness. When I play it in shift, it makes it feel like im racing around any old track. I want to FEEL like im really driving on the nurburgring. GT5 goes far and beyond that, this game just skims the surface. The only thing I can say is that the driving affects in shift make it seem like Im racing a real car, but not that im on the real track.

Ok so GT5 is so REAL and Shift2 isn't? Have you noticed GT5 is so REAL that they totally missed the adrenaline and intensity of racing? I'm loving Shift2 not for the reality of track models but for the racing experience. Why are you looking at the scenery when you should be focused on the line of the car in front of you, or how you're gonna take the next corner at 100mph without sliding off the track...

Why do you buy a RACING game if you don't really race?

Yeah because graffiti on the track is more important than the basic structure of a VIDEO GAME.

Damn, where's the BBQ on the Nurburgring. Blasphemy. Get the pitchforks out.

You really should read your signature, contradictions ftw!

I've been on the track in real life. GT5 is way, way, way more accurate to the real track. I'll be going again in 2 weeks.

Although it looks like a bridge in the game, it isn't really. That hill is very steep and very blind in real life.

I'm jealous, I would be on it once a week if I lived close to it :grumpy:

One week I would take my motorcycle the next a car

The Nordschleife in GT5 is too narrow. It makes overtaking the AI a chore as they always bump you into the grass and make you lose grip or spin.

I totally agree, and what makes it worse, is the lack of grip and steering lag, makes it undriveable, let alone race against other racers.

That's how it is in real life! (The track, not the AI)

Really? All the real life footage (videos on Youtube and pictures) show that it's much wider. Or is the scale of the cars in GT5 off, because it's definitely not wide enough for two lanes like in real life.

^ I agree. If you watch the GT5 vs real life video, you'll see that in the real life video the track width fits between the edges of the car, but in the GT5 video, it fits between the left side and about two thirds across the bonnet. No one notices that because they assume the views are the same, but the RL one shows the whole cockpit, the GT5 one half...

Check this video out:

.

Looks smack on to me, the only difference being that the real life camera is mounted a bit lower on the car. Perhaps equally as important are the elevation changes, another thing which GT5 does really well.

Also the Nordschleife looks even narrower when you actually go there in real life 👍

video doesn't show how wide the car is in relation to the track.
I was there 2 weeks ago.

Actually that video makes it clear to me the GT5 ver is narrower. And you're right, it doesn't show car width relative to the track...

I strongly disagree, and not because im a fanboy...actually i am, a fanboy of both games, ive played both the series from the beginning. And i love the fake tracks on gt5 alot more then what shift 2 has to offer. Your probably finding it boring, because the cars don't travel in lightspeed.

I dont was in the Ring IRL, and i dont know wich one is the "correct" version, but i read here some members that was in the Ring claim that the Shift version is the most acurated one.

GT5 is way more accurate. Just take a look at the "Karussell", it's just plain stupid how SMS has modeled said hairpin.

GT5 Nurburgring is the most accurate in any sim.

And the outro in GT5 is really impressive, too....let alone the reality check. :P

no, I've played GT 1-5. After 5 games, tracks like Tokyo, Trial Mountain, Grand Valley don't hold up. and of course, PD's real track selection is dire as well with tskuba and the parking lot know as fuji. PD focuses too much on the car aspect I think forgetting that we have to drive them, not just look at them.

1. I'll always love it Nordschleife no mater in which game on what surface, no matter how realistic or not. Because I'm Nordschleife Junkie. I'd raced there on tarmac / gravel, and "snow & ice"

2. If you all want Nordschleife as real as it could be then go to Germany and there you go !!!

Stop cry and realize that this is just fun game, nothing more. If you like Nordschleife in GT5 more then play it on GT5. I can't rally see the point of this thread. :sly:

Nordschleife in Shift 2 is Probably the way programmers wanted us to see this track. It's now more wide than usual and that's create more opportunities to overtake and have more fantastic on-line battles 👍

Don't forget the horns man! We gotta be able to hear the cars too!

Having said that, former GTs really shined with tracks like El Capitan, Paris, Pikes Peak, Tahiti Maze, Citta di Aria and Costa di Amalfi. I loved those a lot more than the dull track selection in the current GT (Tsukuba? Ugh... Fuji? Double ugh... Indy Road Course? Triple ugh...)

Have to disagree because i personally think Trial mountain is genious, along with Deep forest probably some of the best fantasy tracks i have seen. Tokyo back in GT3 was one of my favourite tracks and when friends came over and played it was the only track they were interested in. Sure the game has lost some of its great tracks but most of the tracks that remain are fantastic. Personally i much prefer the new version of the Rome circuit, i really enjoy the over the top fantasy creation that is the Cape Ring, i absolutely despise both London and Madrid tracks. But personal preference is just that.

Personally I love the real world tracks in GT5, aside from perhaps Fuji (which i do not enjoy at all) it is a great selection. I will admit that the track selection variety in Shift 2 is without a doubt better, if only for the problem that the quality is generally not as good as GT5. With fantasy tracks quality is a preference matter mostly, but with real life tracks the quality goes down to how accurate the circuit is to the real thing.

Nordschleife is a perfect example, anybody who sais that the Shift 2 version rivals that of GT5 are just kidding themselves, it is just as much a fantasy version as Cote d'Azur is of Monaco in GT5. Fun yes, but if you desire a close to reality approach then it does not give you that.

Speaking of Monaco, in Shift 2 I noticed, Riviera is their version of Monaco.

Yeah, it also has a few different layouts, i quite enjoyed that fantasy version to be honest, but its a lot further from the real thing than the GT5 fantasy version. But fantasy tracks are fantasy tracks, i found the Shift 2 variation in both the layouts i drove to be intense and fun... If a little confusing at first.

I swear for years and years now I have seen racing games with Monaco in them and didn't even notice, because they were called something different. I do like the Shift 2 version its badazz.

Test Drive on Dreamcast had a version of Monaco lol.
