I was waiting for you to post something like this when I saw your name on the bottom. First of all, let me get this out of the way:

Now, I agree with this fully. I was also one of the people who were worried about the competition and such, but I didn't bash PURE or anything, because I knew they weren't just instantly prestigious, they worked for it as well. I was just mainly worried of the loss of interest from this series or the other one. I even said myself I wanted to join PURE someday, but I was just worried of their higher standards. I even admit I thought you guys were elitists the first time I ever clicked on the racing series sub-forum, but I opened my mind and knew you guys were pretty well established and it was just the part of my brain that thinks "Prestigious -> elitist" that caused me to think that way. I also admit to mentioning the other series as the "PURE" one. That's how I mention every PURE sanctioned series. If they have a PURE tag, I'm calling them a PURE series. They are affiliated with PURE, so therefore I'll acknowledge the fact that they are. If I see a racing series with a "FIAGTP" tag or something even though they are only sanctioned by that brand I will call them an FIAGTP league.

Thanks Wardez, you have such a way with words 👍. I just felt being a part of this series, I had to try help ease the worries etc. While also slightly defending the other series's merit and it's unique element to this one. Not a easy task but I felt if I did that it would make things more clear and hopefully calm everything down.

Yeah Skilla, I know what you mean. I was just describing our take on it. We're all aware that once a series has our prefix, it's going to seem like it belongs to us. We're slowly changing that notion over time though, it's a goal.

Look at the real FIA. That's the role we're trying to fill in the sim racing world. Creating standard racing regulations and procedures for anyone to use. Did you know Super GT was an FIA sanctioned series? But it doesn't have to be called, "FIA Super GT."

@polar
yeah man, I did sign up and PM'ed you about all the things getting in the way of my racing, really wished I could've, I didn't even have time for my own series.

@Mel
Trying to make series that no one's done before just isn't going to happen, they've all been done before. It's more realistic to laim you're going for your own style in running series, with your own set of regulations and interesting new takes on format. And you guys are doing that, with your overarching ladder system and points averaging system. It's great thinking, a lot of those averaging mechanics are brilliant.

But the main point: taking away interest from Rolex. It's not going to happen, as I said before. You guys have a lot of dedicated members already, and you'll do a lot of growing soon, just keep your heads down and put the work in, the drivers will come on their own.

As for us, we're essentially in a totally different segment of interest as Paul so rightly pointed out. The Pure Grand-Am series is going to be Euro-friendly. In gaining European drivers that otherwise didn't have an opportunity to race in your Rolex series due to time, we're giving it to them. Can you then sensibly say that we're pulling drivers away?

Who cares about PURE, or WMA, or whatever? Just race where you want. I raced in a PURE type series before in the RX7 series, I only did one race and left because the time frame. They're beatable, just like anyone here is. So because it says 'pure' doesn't mean it's the best. Some of those guys might be fast, but they're just people like anyone of you guys. Why would you be scared of their series? It doesn't even look as attractive IMO.

For instance racing hards for cars with 550hp won't be attracting a lot of people, especially newer guys that don't have quite the experience with those higher powered cars (let alone the difficult to get right Zonda R). The DP class is a 'spec' class and the power #'s are about 50hp too high over the real life cars. They have a road car ferrari in GT with racing cars, and a Race Modded Camaro that looks like it belongs in Continental not Rolex. There's plenty of turn offs for that series, and for this one. I might be a turn off. I really don't care. Race where you want. Who gives a damn what or who backs it or sponsors it. It's GT5, all this pure, gtrrl, wma, orca etc. is all a gimmick in my eyes. I don't care if people don't like what I'm saying. If I hurt their feelings, sorry! To me it's just a game and I play to have good racing with guys that are clean. I care little about the name and who runs it. I suggest you all look at it the same. One series isn't better than another just because it has a little name in front of it.

PURE & WMA are both releasing, or have released full rulebooks which go much farther in depth than any GTP OLRs I've seen.

It's what keeps people honest, and makes sure that LMP cars don't hit GT cars at Madrid and get away with it. :ouch:

Guys guys guys. As someone who knew about the "second" series, and was approached as a host, firstly your points about TOCA and the Touring Car championships are 100% right. The other series has a different spec to yours, differing times, and we've made no attempt at all to try and bi*** and moan about yours as far as I know.

A series does NOT need a "tag" like PURE or WMA to be successful necessarily, TOCA and my WSC championships are an example, only can be successful if the host has a clear idea of what he wants to achieve, who he wants in the series, and what racing he wants. And if drivers agree with that.

Instead of going on our thread ~cough James~ and trying to stir up trouble, how about just accepting it and moving on, this is your show, same as PURE's show is their show. I fail to see how scraping at each others throats can do anything.

I've never gone mental at someone everytime they launch a touring car series. You obviously care about this but just get yourself organised and focus yourself, or your going to destroy yourselves in the process.

Thanks Furi I knew you'd understand my comparision between the touring car series since you were the first one and the others have done little to affect you at all, which is sorta my point 👍.

👍 And thats done via making a few tweaks to make it different, in TOCA my cars are pretty powerful, using BTCC regs but with none-BTCC cars, and have no aero making them harder to drive.

Point being, the Grand Am's are different. Do you guys here use a Zonda R as a DP? No. So no issue there.

Racing hards and the difference in cars is the main thing I tried to get across. Rolex have road and racing softs for GT.

Hopefully everything is well now :).

As I think the situation has died down (hopefully for good) I'll give my opinion (after some sleep!)

I thought the series was on Saturday... Oops!

There are differences guys. The obvious is obvious. The cars are different.... But they use racing hards only. That makes them unappealing to the more casual group. They want the more hardcore drivers, while we will get the newer/ casual people (sometimes unfortunately...) and they have a more European friendly time.

This next part isn't ment to start a fight, and is not directed to any of the drivers in this series, but the coordinators of the other series. I dont want any of the drivers to comment on this next part.

You guys thought out what series you wanted to do, as any series should. You also thought about other series, as was shown in the Indycar3 thread. My quotes may be off a bit, I apologize in advance (I'm on the app) "I'd like to talk to you about Grand Am" *few comments later* "How about ALMS?" "No, that's already established"

That's where I start to have a problem. This shows that you looked at the American series here, and saw the ALMS was on season 5, so you didn't make one. But since we are just on our second season, that makes us fair game?

All the touring car series are valid points, and I agree with most, only difference I see here is that our names are virtually identical.

And the new series is for GTP America, I'd have been open to being apart of all these organizations. I'd have loved you guys to help me organize this. And being perfectly honest, a second 'Division' was in the works with a earlier start time.

The pm I got pretty much said: hi, I'm going to open another Grand Am series. I hope you don't mind.

Which I didn't at the time (beach really does make you relaxed!) I however, would have liked a pm a bit before. One saying "hi, I'm thinking about starting another Grand Am series, would you mind?"

Don't get me wrong, I did appreciate the pm I got, I just wish I had gotten one of those a bit earlier.

Also in the past when people have made dupes of series (I'll use indycar as a example, although I think it's happened with NASCAR too.) they just said there already is a indycar series and they didn't feel like another was needed. And the other party stopped their indycar series.

Someone told me to do this on the Rolex season 2 thread when I told everyone another Grand Am series was being made. (to hopefully avoid this...) But it seemed like once he found out who was making it, he had a change of heart.

I know i'm not part of your 'clique' but, I think we could've worked something out, I'd still like to work it out with you guys.

Best regards,

Drew

What we meant by that really was that with ALMS or IndyCar, there's not much room for change in a separate series. If somebody comes along and creates another IndyCar Series, chances are it's going to be very similar to ours because the FGT is basically the only car you can use and any rule changes would be very minor. There is room for a bit of change with this idea; although a second division of this would have been an option, it wouldn't have been viable because our car specs etc. are very different to yours.

I'd like to stress to you that I actually considered joining this series when it began but time constraints stopped me from doing that obviously. I also respect the majority of you guys, have to admit a couple seem to have gone psycho on our series but you and cnd in particular have been very civil about all this and I applaud you for that. Do you mind if I PM you Drew? I think I can be more honest with you there.

+1 Polarbear. Thank you for that. That is absolutely my view. Why don't we work something out?

Yea, some people have definitely gone off the deep end!

Sure, you can pm me, may take me a bit to reply, gotta shower and do some stuff.

I don't know what all was said to you guys via PM, so I don't know how bad it got. I am sure most of it was out of impulse because we think that another series based on the same IRL series doesn't help attendance.

Let's get back on topic. For season three will caution flags be changed any?

I think they'll just be clarified:

The whole wait for the field to catch up, pit on the same lap, deal.

Single file restarts.

Wave arounds AFTER the cars enter pit road. The only time you get a wave around is when you don't pit when the leader does. You may pit on your wave around lap.

Y'all need to stop arguing, all you are doing at this point is a giant pissing contest amongst yourselves. If it is that big a deal, why don't you just combine the series and run them under one big championship! That way the time can be right for everyone. Also, I can't insult Tom or else James Hunt will send me to the pits of hell with his sexiness

Gets Out of Dr. Phil Costume

Really its no big deal. James, nothing will happen to your series if another one that runs at a different time starts up.

Wow, and just when I thought we settled everything. So much for getting back on topic.

Are you planning on joining us for season 3?

If not, this was so unneeded it's not even funny.
