VCRC *Jaguar E-TYPE Coupe ‘61 @ Monte Carlo* **congrats to dsgerbc!!**

Lol I may aswell quit now... Not really it will be fun

Like i say dude the tidy drivers will do well imo not the speedsters so much:sly: 20 trouble free laps (think 20 was mentioned?) will see you right.👍
Is there a practice hour planned would like to be clear on this start system.:dunce:

Thanks ID_Racing!! :D
I bumped that back to the first page in the club forum.

VCRC club-forum post detailing "tuning prohibited":
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=2612

I'll just copy the whole thing I guess...

Tuning: Prohibited

What it means when a race is restricted to "Tuning: Prohibited"

Must be in original stock condition the car comes with, as is essentially.

The only things you can have changed on the car are:

Oil change (GT Auto)
Engine Rebuild (GT Auto)
Chassis Restoration (GT Auto)
Wheels (GT Auto)
Paint (GT Auto)
Wheels Paint (GT Auto)

Allowed Adjustments:

Brakes: Brake Balance CAN be adjusted to preference.

Engine: Power Limiter IS allowed :boggled:, but I doubt anyone would see that as a really good idea in most cases. ;)
(The only reason to use this would be if there was also a HP or PP restriction.)

Tires: Whatever the tire restriction for the race, is the tire type you can use.
(In many of our races, we use the tires the car comes with, but there may be exceptions to that, depending on the car.)

These things will flunk the car out of qualifying to enter the track:
(Once these things are done, they can't be taken off, and therefore make the car permanently disqualified.)

Cannot have Engine Stage upgrades 1, 2, or 3.
Cannot have Weight Reduction 1, 2, or 3
Cannot have window weight reduction
Cannot have carbon fiber hood
Cannot have Chassis Reinforcement

These things must be set to default parts or settings, or the car won't be able to enter the track:

Cannot have Aero kits or body kits installed (GT Auto)
If there's an aero kit or body kit installed, you must go to GT Auto, and have it taken off, and restored to its original parts.

Body/Chassis: Ballast @ Default (cannot add ballast)
Engine: Default computer chip thingy
Intake: Default intake parts (must un-check any added parts)
Exhaust: Default exhaust parts (must un-check any added parts)
Turbo Kits: Default parts (must un-check any turbo or superchargers)
Transmission: Default Transmission (if default transmission is fully custom, default settings must be used)
Drivetrain: Default parts (if any default parts are customizable, the default settings must be used)
Suspension: Default suspension (if the default suspension is customizable, the default settings must be used)

How far am I off the pace with my 2.04.998??
You're about the same as me...which means you're probably way off the pace!

I did a little better (high 2:03) on one lap in a 1-make practice, and it was a fluke... I never repeated it yet.
But I think you have to really go at the tires for a few laps before anything lower is possible. (Well, at least for me.)

Had a little spin with jack got into the 2.01s and yes I agree once the tyres are warm they can be pushed fairly hard (sorry I had to go jack but I had some people come round).

I found that the tyres were perfectly warm enough by the time I got to Casino.

I have to echo the sentiments that the E-Type makes a surprisingly fun drift car. I was a real hooligan, it's like I was back down Southend Seafront hanging the tail around every single corner!

Time-wise, my PB is 1:59.783. However I can't do sub 2 minutes consistently. So more likely at the 2min mark. Very easy to understeer with its barge like suspension.

I'm sure if I had more power I could get that down to 59 flat. I'm currently at 264HP[!] and dropping with every kilometer! Mine's very high mileage.

Okay I'll give you the secret record lap time I've had from someone...
1:57.5xx

:scared: :nervous:

But that's likely after the tires are warm, of course. (And using a low mileage car.)
(And probably not a consistent lap time over 20 laps, of course.)
(And obviously it's not me!)

It takes me at least 2 laps to get the tires to where I can drive... smoothly.
But I'm not very good. And my car only has about 50 miles on it so far, so the engine is not broken in yet.

Mine has about 50miles on it but the more I drive it the bhp don't go up!!! Is it because it was a OCD car?
1.57 wow welldone that man

started off at 2:14:grumpy:then realised I had comfort softs on for some reason:dunce: eventually got it into the 2.03's :) Can definitely go faster than that but whether i will or not is another question:nervous:

157!! Oh plop runs away!!:scared:

That is a good time but they won't last the distance.

So I take it there's no mandatory pitstop, do the tyres have to last or can we stop:idea:

This is next week!!

?? This week is Easter... or so I'm told...

Does that mean not canceling? lol

HAHA, wow, thank god I'm a moron, I really didn't want to miss this. Yes, I should almost definitely be in now. I almost never work on sundays, I'll know friday for sure, but count me in.

Got the old girl into the 158's, that 157 is quite an achievement however.:nervous:👍

Damn you jb lol think I'll have to follow you to see what lines you use.

Well that's good then!

I purposely scheduled this far enough in advance knowing that it's the kind of race most would like to get in some practice & plan for!

RE: Pit stops
I may have to pit... I haven't tried driving 20 laps of course yet. But I'm not the kind that can just drive & drive & drive on worn tires. It's unclear yet whether anyone will be able to... though I wouldn't be surprised if someone tries. (There are some people who are extraordinarily good with tire wear, but I'm not one of them!)

Hehe very little consistantcy mate time wise, i will be happy with getting the thing round in a respectable position tbh:scared:
20 lap test at some point GD:tup:

jackargent reaches historic 500 post milestone

In other news...just hope you guys with the 1.57's & 8's are shredding your tyres!

& finally....sad news as the dream of a father & son one two at Monaco fades as keirS123 is forced to withdraw. A spokesman for team argent denied that the withdrawal was prompted by the young whippersnapper daring to get round Monaco faster than his dad.

I MAY  be able to come, As I am having to go to London on the weekend... both days :banghead: its only if I get back in time... Wish me luck :nervous:

You know what it was, I confused this event with the targa florio event you guys did that I really wanted to join. I think.

I'm not good at making tires last either, but are you saying you want to see if pitting is necessary or not? I could probably try to do 20 laps and let you know my results. I'll try to do it over the next few days. I guess it would probably be good practice

I'm game as well.

Ok then i will open up and let you all in......:nervous:
have just done a 20 lap run on 1 set of tyres. rear at approx 55% & fronts approx 60% on lap 20.
However lap times are a consistently miserable 2:04.XXX - 2:05.XXX with 2 laps doing a low 2:03.XXX which were around laps 8 & 9 i think
still looking forward to this one though 👍

Just so we're clear here... I have not gotten a practice lap at all under 2:00 minute mark. And I doubt I would be able to do better than 2:04 average over 20 laps... especially on the same set of tires.
Add to that my inevitable choking if I do well, so I think there could be a pit strategy for me, or, a strategy of tire-saving.

IMPORTANT ABOUT WARM-UP LAP

Race Event Procedure:
Qualifying to start at scheduled arrival time
Qualifying for approximately 15 minutes
Race of approximately 40 minutes
Lap 1 will be a WARM-UP LAP.
Speed limit will be 40mph / 65kph
#1 car on starting grid will set pace.
All stay in grid order, go single file through lap one, until the last turn before the Start/Finish straight.
Near end of lap 1, drivers should close all gaps and proceed with caution.
Drivers may go to full-speed upon exiting the last turn onto the S/F straight (ie: before the S/F line)

Suggestions for clarification? Questions?

You must notice and maintain your starting grid position.

This is hopefully to prevent any calamity in early turns of the race on cold hard tires. 👍
