This whole thing is hilarious with the hindsight that this clown show could have been avoided if the race just ended under yellow like it should have.

I don't understand why everyone is obsessed with not racing in a race.. I'm staggered people would genuinely rather see races finish under caution or not finish at all than let them race.

Baffling.

There may be some problems with this technically not being a restart, so the race would still have ended under red flag, so the countback would still happen

Crossing a sector seems so stupid for a classification…

They clearly know the order of how things went on the restart but they get to just bail on it….

So the cars taken out are screwed and the cars who got passed are rewarded. Makes no sense.

Either allow the RACING incidents to stand or allow everyone to go back.

The true race is all the lawyers that will be rushing in to dispute the results...

Why are we having a grid start for the finish? Surely a rolling finish would be best?
Is that confirmed? If so, it may be because of this:

Having a grid start means there's actually a few seconds of green. Rolling restart means there is no moment of green, so there wouldn't have been a restart.

At least I won’t have to read anymore news articles about how Red Bull fast and Mercedes slow for the next couple of weeks.

Max and Lewis are the only drivers whose position is not under discussion

Sainz may as well not participate in the restart

Everything has suggested it's a rolling finish so I don't know where you got the grid start from.

British commentators are saying 'formation lap' instead of rolling finish, leading me to think it's a standing start.

Also, what's the point in giving Sainz a 5s penalty when the effects of the collision have been nullified?

So Carlos slows down in the final corner, and then accelerates like hell to try to salvage a point or two

Because a 2 lap sprint with high stakes for cars not designed for those sprints will either end in the same order they were in before, or a massive crash, as proved by this. In long races, red flagging 2 laps from the end ruins any good work drivers have done and drivers who got into a good position are at the mercy of someone else's stupidity - see Alonso's spin. We are past 75%, so full points can be awarded. We are past 90%, so any of these cars can be classified. This all smells of a way to hobble Red Bull and give a chance for someone to punt him off.

In a series where strategy and race-long plans happen, something like a Safety Car is to be expected, but a Red Flag is too far when it is for something as weak as the first two red flags we had today.

Racing is entertainment. Artificially closed up crashing is a joke.

It also had a cascade effect.

It's pretty baffling, because if the events of the restart are being ignored then it should be effectively nullified. I don't really understand they're thinking here.

As a NASCAR fan, I’ve seen so many races devolve into demolition derbies where racing is no longer the goal, only survival. I’ve seen wrecks were drivers were nearly killed because we had to line em’ up one more time. I’ve had whole afternoons feel wasted because the driver who dominated 95% of a race get passed/wrecked on a green white checkered.

While I dont want another crash.
If Max and Lewis tangle, Alonso will get 1st.
I kinda want to see that.

There won't be any racing though. As soon as they get to the start line the checkered flag will be waved

You need to step off the "everyone's trying to hurt Red Bull and Verstappen" horse, people whine when races finish under yellow or safety cars, people are whining when they go for a racing finish. Absolutely no winning for F1, always someone who will complain about whatever they do.

Using hurting Red Bull as an attack on them for doing is just insane.

NASCAR dynamically is a very different sport to F1 and invites that kind of incident. That start crash could have happened on any of the standing starts, as has been seen countless times at Albert Park. It's just unfortunate it happened on that start.

Racing > Not racing, in my opinion.

I will say that this restart has helped my FF1 no end - Alonso back in 3rd, AM lead constructor, Merc engine 2nd and 3rd.....

NASCAR pretty much allows you to crash into others.
How many times do we see drivers tapping others?

They haven't been ignored though. All cars involved in the crashes aren't restarting the race. The collision and lap was still relevant and still counts for race distance. The crash was lap 57, the Red Flag came out on lap 57 before the first sector was over, hence why the race order was reset.

But it did exist.
