I was gonna send you PM and demand you participate, so thanks for saving me the trouble lol. You should send Wanderlust a PM also if have a second.

Are they Pumas?

Yes sir!

Erm, did practice/qual get changed? OP says 28 January with race day on 4 February, which are both Mondays.

January 28th week before race is practice qualifying.

Marcus, you are so versed. Thank you got explaining that correctly. I get physics of things. But don't relay them into words so well.

I heel-toe in my car all the time but have rarely done it in GT5. Is there any real benefit to doing it in game, or is it just for fun/practice?
Yes. In this situation, the main advantage of the heel-toe is going to be allowing you to downshift sooner in a braking zone to utilise greater engine braking/turn-in without upsetting the car.
Marcus might be right, but that's way too much downshifting for me. I do it just for fun/practice. My real-life practice is to downshift at most once per braking zone. Utilizing engine braking in GT5, say on the front straight of Nurb/24Hr, requires three of those. That's too much room for error for me.

Dude you don't even have to let off the gas. Just floor it push the clutch in and shift down hahaha.
Didn't do any gated-shifter racing lately so I had to check if this is true. Does not seem like it is. Gotta let go off gas when shifting.

Yeah you DO NOT have to let off the throttle completely while up shifting (but RPMs have to be going down for the shift to be a valid shift and not a miss shift)

Down shifting you can leave your foot slammed on the gas all the way down to the floor while you shift down.

I wish I could take part in your event owens but unfortunatelyt I'm working until 9PM on mondays. I'm interested if you happen to move the event to 9:30 or 10PM.

Either way, I wish you that lots of people participate. 👍

First practice shifting went well, but slow. After 6 practice laps I'm still missing about a dozen shifts per laps and always manage to mess up somewhere and end off mowing the grass. A very slow low 10s but it's starting to really grow on me. Near the end I was starting to think about sending a new qualifying time to kcheeb, a time using the H gate.

I've got a clutch only room open if anyone wants to hang out tonight maybe practice a bit :) Be forewarned it won't be racing tires.

Hey everybody! This race sounds like a most proper way of embarrassing myself! I would like to join in, with a G27, driving my Alfa in Merlot Red with Gold Chrome Enkei ES-Tarmac rims. She's a byooot! :)

Great idea Owens. It's too late for me on a weekday, but hopefully this gets big enough to where it needs a weekend race too ;)

You are in luck. February 9th at 12pm we are looking to repeat this race!

You make those of us with a DFGT want to cry. A time and date that I could probably race on a track that I love and with an awesome car…

…sigh…
I know I have a DFGT too but I guess that's life in a nutshell for you.

So I adjusted the clutch grabbing point, which was way too low for my liking. It helped, but not completely. So I investigated further. I usually heel-toe once per braking zone, somewhere toward the end of it. It would seem that at least on my end it won't go in gear on a heel-toe downshift if you put the gear into the gate when engine revs are about 1k rpms higher than what the current speed would imply in the target gear.

So, for example, 60mph in 3rd gear would require 6000rpms, so if I rev it in neutral above 7000 and try to put it in 3rd, it won't go in. Don't know if it's just on my end, could someone pls try it too?

So, to deal with that I'll just have to heel-toe earlier in the braking zone. That way, over-revving the snot out of the engine, the lower gear goes in every time. Perhaps that's what Lock2Lock meant: you can shift into lower gear holding gas to the floor if your current speed means you'll be above redline in that gear.

I mean you can go from 6th to 1st with the gas floored as long as you push the clutch in and shift.

But on up shifting you can have about 1/4th throttle in while RPMs are not climbing but dropping and have a valid shift.

But anyway. I am looking forward to this race

I'm going to be in one of the S.N.A.I.L. lounges at the same time, for all those people without a clutch....only fair after all :)

Hey i might have a friend of mine that wants to join the race you have another spot?

Did you see this Owens? I can vouch for Chris as being fast, clean and consistent.

Got you added to the roster.

Tomorrow night we do practice and qualifying to set grid. Those that don't make it are still welcome to race. Those that qualify will guarantee their starting grid.

I was notified yesterday that my son's soccer team has an exhibition game. It might be difficult getting home in time.

With all the dfgt guys wanting to join, what do you think about doing something mixed class in the future ? Maybe dfgt guys use different car or tires?
