Damage and detail looks really good but notice how the AI still does not stop when you spin out. The AI came right around the corner and blasted right into him. Come on PD fix the dang AI!!

He was coming very quickly though and might not have had the time to react.

Dissapointing really.

It seems to me that the streetcars don' t have damage.
All it takes is a s street car, tune it and race against the WRC cars. The can/will/have damage, and I will not. Get my point?

All cars should have damage, or no car at all. It just seems odd to me now

Exactly what I was thinking. Do it for all, or don't do it at all. Damage for specific cars is pretty dumb if you ask me.

This is realistic...

I hope you're joking there. You seriously expect a PS3 to render that kind of damage, completely in real-time? Even with multiple cars on the track (as in, if you had several damageable cars racing together)?

Also, note that they are shots of BIG crashes, the Subaru in the video only had the few moderate collisions with a side wall.

I don't get why people seem upset by this. GRID's damage is the arcade-style BANG SMASH CRASH, this is mean to be realistic - and you've got to remember all the other features it's got. 16 cars on the track at once and great visuals. There's only so far you can go with a game on a console before you run out of juice. PD aren't Gods.

Perhaps it’s optional and it was turned on only for the player car, we can hope…

Said in the comments in the news section.

Dear lord, I'm praying for this. And I'm not even religious... :P

some people including me didnt think damage was coming at all.. to get it at all done pretty well is a benefit.

people are disgraceful in here as to what they want, pretty ungreatfull

How about this ? I understand that it's hard for Polyphony to tell car manufactures that they want to kill their cars in GT5 like it in Burnout Paradise ( fantasy cars ) and that cars in GT5 look a lot better ( therefor a good looking damage model is not as easy to achieve ) - yet there are games on the market ( like Burnout shown in this video ) that do a by far better job. I think I'm allowed to be a litte disappointed here; Tbh - I'd rather have no damage at all than this mess : A few cars have a little damage ( not realistic in any way ) and others don't have any damage at all - both cars participating in the sam race is even more ridiculous.

Just look at 19 sec. Real body deformation. I'm waiting for this in games like Forza and Gran Turismo. Might never happen due to certain policies of car manufacturers.

( Btw I'll stop posting youtube videos of other games now since this thread is not the right place to discuss it in a too detailled way, still.... )

this is Gran Turismo..It has better graphics than burnout or any racing game..and this is not a full retail version. wait for more info guys..I am impressed at all.

The thing with Burnout is that the crashing is ONE of their big features and makes up a HUGE part of the gameplay... so they HAVE to do a good job on it... This isnt the case with GT... The focus here IMO is on the physics and car models... which are GOOD. The damage is sort of an extra in this case... I do think the damage is not bad... Looks good imo because I wasnt even expecting it to be in the game...

Amazing; people whine & complain about the lack of damage and once PD gives it to us to the point that doors fall off, you folks still complain. 👎

Exactly. Anyone watching it can see the Lancer is coming through the turn very fast & as soon as the WRC is within range, you can see the AI attempt to brake.

Granted, but seeing as the damage didn't seem to affect the driving of the car one bit (being only cosmetic), it does take away for the whole "real driving simulator" aspect.

I beg to differ... The whole car wobbles back and forth coming out of turns... I dont think its ONLY cosmetic... there is probably minor internal damage as well...

Agreed 👍

full agreement. good post

The car appears to wobble as it is driven forward, so I assume there is some affect to handling after a crash.

Also, its a game show demo, and we're unsure of what settings the damage is set at or limited to and if there will be more fully fledged damage come the release of the game. At the moment, we've got one video and its a promising start to damage within the GT series.

Myself, I'm not bothered either way, never been one for damage or the need to have it in a game, but if having damage will get more people playing GT, then i'm all for it.

Backfire confirmed ? ! 👍

Video at gametrailers looks very impressive!

Exactly 👍

This is a demo! I'm certain it will improve come the release of GT5.

I mean, maybe we're going to get a huge options menu for it... disable/enable scratches, deformation, and detachable body parts... you could have only scratches/paint damage, or you could have only deformation, or you could have only detachable body parts, which is what we see in the video... or any combination.

That's what I'm hoping, at least.

Why would you have an option to take those things away... this is rubbish!
If this is where they are now, PD will finish the game in 5 years.

Well watching the other video earlier I noticed that no damage was occuring, there was no smashed glass for example. So in my opinion the damage has a setting where it can be enabled & disabled……… only time will tell.

I expect we will hear from the man himself on this subject at TGS, which I might add is just about a month away, just a little bit longer.

We are also forgetting that Kazunori Yamauchi is a perfectionist as well as his PD team he would never let this happen.

yeaah as EJROCKY & Jack_uk says, maybe its an option just because PD knows there's alot of crashers online.. so ppl who dont want to be totaled by a noob ramming u in 200km/h at T1 @ Fuji speedway..

i dont know but still this is only a small demonstration..

Surely they would want to show it off at a game show where you only play for 3 minutes???????
