Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

I will have my camera which isn't the best but it works good enough. If I actually used my Gopro I would but I haven't since I bought it.

I'll just use my Samsung Galaxy's camera. I had tons of pics from the 50th anniversary former winners car parade. I had pics of Dan Gurney's car that he won the first Rolex 24 in. I wish I had done something with them before my old phone broke.

It sounds like I need to get with you then! I am hoping to find some 1/64 DP or GT cars. I really hope I don't blow too much money there.

I went to a Grand-Am race weekend at Mid-Ohio in 2011. I saw lots of apparel and whatnot that I wanted. I had to limit myself or else I'd have spent a small fortune.

On a side note, they had GT5 set up with DFGT wheels. Their demos were locked with assists on, unfortunately. I obliterated it.

That's what makes me think that the DP will (hopefully) be in GT6. They had a whole tent set up at the Rolex 24 last year. I got my official Gran Turismo drivers license that day  :D

Well no matter what I will have to make a game plan as I want to get some autographs which I know will be packed!

The DP autograph line is insanely long. You will have to get there over an hour before the session starts to get a chance to go through it. I usually go through the smaller GT team autograph lines.

Ummmm, Sylvain and I shall speak French together. I will only be happy if I speak French with Sylvain Tremblay.

I could send my dad through one line while I went through the other. Granted the only DP drivers I really want to get are Nelson Piquet Jr, Marcos Ambrose and AJ. I might end up in the GT line though.

I just realized. The only Grand-Am track with a kart track attached is Road America. :grumpy: Why don't people build more kart tracks?

💡 In Canada, every major permanent racing facility has a permanent kart track attached.

-Mosport (raced there)
-Shannonville (I get to race there this season!)
-Cayuga (if I'm correct)
-Flamboro (I get to race there this season!)
-Barrie (I might get to race there this season)

So, why not America?

Because as American's we never do things the normal way. We try to reinvent the wheel alot of times it seems.

Miller has a Kart track.

Miller isn't on the 2013 season, I don't see it anywhere. My point was to take my kart when I go to Mid-Ohio or any other Rolex course, to get in some "free" practice. The cost would be something I'd be covering anyways (gas for transportation etc.) but there are no tracks close enough with a kart track...

The documentary on speed made it seem like allmendinger drove the entire race lol.

I'd be curious to see anyone drive a whole race and don't say it can't be and still be in overall win or fast all race.

I would imagine that even if they did have a kart track it would be closed during a Rolex weekend.

I don't see why. All the people there, chance to make some extra money.

I can't see many people lugging a kart and all that goes with it to a crowded race event, at least not enough to make it profitable. Now if was arrive & drive it would make sense.

Pierre Levegh attempted the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans on his own and was leading by 4 laps when his engine blew during the 23rd hour.

And... huh?

Pretty simple. It seems most don't drive more than like 3-4 hours at a time and no one tries to Ironman the event. Also just because you do drive for that long doesn't mean you won't be a front runner either. I'm sure some will disagree but look at Baja 1000 for examples even this year there was an overall winner who never got out of the truck for over 20 hrs straight.

Grand am has a rule that drivers in the Rolex 24 cannot stay in the car longer than 3 and 1/2 hours.

Wonder what the rule is about? I'm not disagreeing with it but just seems odd.

Because then teams would grind drivers like Scott Pruett and Max Angelelli. They would be in the car for 6 hours at the time. It's also for safety. It can get over 100 degrees Fahrenheit even in January in those DP's. Grand-Am doesn't want anyone getting dehydrated in the cars.

Fair enough, it would be cool to see it someone was allowed to run longer though

It would. From the driver interviews after they get out of the cars, it sounds like they are pretty tired and worn out from driving in what they describe as a moving oven. I remember back in 2010 when it rained the Action Express drivers were talking about how the air conditioning in their car had malfunctioned due to the rain. It made the air blow hot air instead of cooler air. I think it was Ryan Dalziel who was really gassed after he got out of the car after running about 2 hours.

Only four days until it begins; the final season of Grand-Am. Who will be crowned the final champion before the merger with ALMS is complete? Who will bring home the final trophy? Tension builds, palms are starting to sweat. Get ready for a season of crazy. It's going to be an all out war in 2013, because in 2014 the races might be the same, but...it will be a different trophy.

I'm thinking this year might have a surprise champion. A team that might be new, or a team that's been a dark horse for a long time that finally emerges into the winners circle after it's all said and done. Then again, it might be a Ganassi v. Starworks war again.
