Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

We kinda already know the class structure. The big thing will be the car specs, series name, and other various trivial parts. I'm hoping they get it right.

Class structure isn't what I care about right now since we can figure out what will happen unless some curve ball comes. It's just their race structure as far as what events they will have and what will be left out or maybe even added.

I actually would be surprised if they had a decent name though.

The schedule probably won't be announced. I am ready for the 36 hours of Florida next year :)

10 race schedule. Possibly 12. Stupid name. Stupider logo. Decent classes. dtm/super gt announcement march 24th I believe. Overall, lets hope it does better than IndyCar.

I don't think the USA can support a DTM series. NASCAR people won't like it, and I feel like road racing fans don't have enough time to watch that, Grand Am, WEC, Pirelli WC, F1 and Indy.

So NASCAR, the company that owns Grand-Am, are gonna have a problem with Grand-Am making a deal with the ITR for an American DTM series. Don't quite see how that works seeing as they pretty much let them operate independently.

Fairly certain he meant NASCAR fans won't like it...;)

Well thats a funny way to reffer to fans (assuming that is what he meant).

Even so, his point is sorta questionable because going of that basis, how many series do those same fans like besides NASCAR anyway?

Just kinda think that hardly would be a reason it won't work since thats just one group of fans (which as proven by other series, isn't necessarily needed to work.)

DTM has fans and a following. They have recognizeable cars as well. On top of this you have the Super GT cars/makes invited with their common ruleset. This entices the American big 3 to come out and play because you'll see the German big 3 along with the Japanese big 3.

Let's hope the American big 3 has enough eggs to throw in that basket as well as the USCR basket. Not to mention 2 of the big 3 have money tied up in NASCAR. This series would have made a lot more sense before the merger imo.

Well, the race at Barber starts soon, and someone decided to tape delay it until tomorrow evening. Good job Speed.

Yep. It starts in 15. Have you guys seen any pics of the extra dive planes and vanes on the nose of the corvette DP?

There are pics here but I think the dive planes look the same or very similar to the ones they had at COTA.

They used no dive planes at Daytona.

About the tape delay.
It sucks not being live, but at least it might be flag to flag coverage as it's a 2 1/2 hour program for a 2 hour race....???? :odd:

I'm ready to see the broadcast. I had to look at the spoiler on grand am.com.

It sounded good on MRN.

It will be a lot better to watch for sure. ;)

I'll be watching the Cup race, the Indy race, then the Grand Am race.
Nice !!

I will watch the latter 2. I'm assuming you know the spoiler as well. I want to see the continental race too.

Am I the only one that laughed at John Edwards and Jon Fogarty going Rally crossing?

I chuckled at that as well. Excellent Gt race. Good race in DP as well. I'm surprised the 3 car was able to continue after getting wrecked as hard as it was. Hats off to the 31 team for getting their car to the finish. The corvette DP was still a little quick on the high downforce tracks.

On another note, Enzo Potoliccio took delivery of his second coyote chassis for his second corvette DP team that Enzo says will debut at some point this season.

What happened to the GT class anyway? This is the first time I've seen more DPs than GTs..

Well, Sahlens was 2 GT full time cars. Now they're 2 full time DP. APR has run out of support to run Barber which is their home track because APR's shop is located in Opelika, AL. That's +2 DP and -3 GT right there for this week. Also, Brumos has no plans of fielding its 59 car after Road Atlanta. Next year, even more GAGT teams are leaving their classes. Marsh Racing is going to field a Corvette DP next season. The ESM Ferrari with Mike Hedlund and Johannes Van Overbeck is running the NAEC only along with COTA, Laguna Seca, and possibly 1 or 2 more races. Plus, Mike Shank went back to a 2 car DP team. That's another DP up from last year. BTE sport has been racing as has Doran, but both are NAEC plus COTA and maybe Laguna Seca from what I understand. Krohn in DP was a 1-off at COTA. Next year will be the true measuring stick as to how many GT teams stay. I have no clue what Stevenson will do. That's the team that's getting left out of the merger because of a pro-am driver requirement for GTD. I think they end up going to a Corvette DP as well, but that's just my own speculation.

Looks like we may not even have a GTD class at this rate with the amount of cars left over.

Well, ALMS GTC + GAGT will make a pretty good class. I'm worried about GTLM and PC in another 2 or 3 years.

Meh, PC still has a place as a developmental class so with a spec rules package (which may get a tweak every once in a while), I think it'll be fine. GTLM should still be fine, though I still feel the Pro & Am thing seriously needs to be dropped.
