My condolences. It's never easy to lose a piece of furniture. My Ikea couch is 120 years old in human years, and may have to be put down soon, also :(

Haven't picked up GT4 since the last LAN, but I can go to this one as long as it is passed May. Extremely busy at school and I'll be at graduation on the 30th of May 👍

'Grats Jack! Major in Stats?

Any more information on the DEETS?

Not as yet, I've been busy with many things and have still yet to finalise a date. It'll be one of the mid-July weekends 11 - 12th or 18 - 19th most likely, although there's an outside chance I could be dragged to UK for a training class at that time, so I'm waiting for confirmation on that front before I commit to something, arrange it all and then have to cancel as I can't imagine I'd be too popular with you guys after that! :guilty:
Now that the 'boarding season is officially over I'm going to get back to concentrating on preparations and stuff though. 👍

And congrats to Jack too! Graduation FTW!

Alrighty then.
A quick update on what's happening.
As yet I'm none-the-wiser about my training class in England, however, we're supposed to be getting one of these new machines out here for our demo facility and as such need somebody capable of installing / servicing it more-or-less immediately. There's e-mails flying around at the moment to see if I can be jammed into one of the existing classes sooner rather than later and I should know when by the end of next week. It's possible it could be end of May / June-ish which means I'll be able to set a date for the SFGTP5 party without worrying about cancelling. 👍
Sorry for the wishy-washyness, but it'll be well worth the wait. :D

Okay, I volunteer to be the sacrifical backmarker for any of those dates pending any work travel that may come up. I'm actually traveling now (beautiful weather in the UK) and have been traveling out of the country 3 of the last 4 weeks. It's been a hectic last 5 months!

What I need is a PS and GT4 if anyone can loan them. I don't think my PS3 can play GT4. I will bring my "cockpit", wheel, screen, food and drinks. I have an extra 15in screen if anyone needs it. I am anxious to see if my iRacing practice transfers back to GT!!! :nervous:

Let me know if you guys can accommodate me! :)

Are you saying black people can't swim? I have first hand experience saying that they can!

Ditto

Edit: I've just realized that I already have a PS2 and GT4 but they are PAL versions from the UK. I think I only played it once or twice. If they are compatible with the LAN and your systems, then I am good to go... let me know!

PS3 & GT4 won't work in LAN mode anyway, even if the PS3 plays GT4.

Are you anywhere the north-east of England right now? We've just had our LAN :D

Okay, but how about the PAL PS2 and GT4? Will they work in LAN mode with the NTSC machines?

Nah, am in London. I would have gladly given up my jog through Hyde Park for some good LAN racing with you guys...yes, I know that's sad :) I've never actually done a LAN but Nick has told me all about them and they sound great. Hope I get to do this!

You can't use machines of different regions in the same LAN, no.

And LANs are awesome. Not just the racing - which is always massively varied, and you'll find yourself lapping cars you've never even thought of and you'll learn a new car/track combo which is just bliss (our favourites - MX-5 SR Limited at Apricot Hill; Mitsubishi Pajero Rally Raid '85 at Hong Kong [really] - but try anything you see in our "Dutcho" lists) - but also the banter and the unadultered geekery :D

We've just had our eleventh and Nick, who first came to our fifth, is now on his own fifth :D

We'll be able to sort out the PS2 and game copy needs, no problem. We normally have more racers than stations, anyhow.

Now Nick just needs to set a date. :sly:

I certainly have a spare NTSC copy of GT4 that you can use Marc, but I'm not sure what revision your PS3 is. :guilty:
Technically if it's the right version it should be able to play PS2 games, but as I've still not bought one myself yet, I'm not really up to speed on all the compatability issues, although I'm sure it's discussed in the GT5:P and PS3 forums here. (Or ask Famine as he's usually the authority on these things!)

Kevin, do you have a fully unlocked GT4 save in PS3 format that you can pass on to Marc? That'll mean he can get some practice in with most of the cars, and familiarise himself with all the tarmac tracks (Forwards & Reverse direction where applicable) which is the most important part and get used to the GT4 physics.

As for a date I'm still waiting on a training class decision. :grumpy:
I'm going to call RadRacing now to see about checking out his rigs & venue though...

No problem on the date. I know as soon as you know, you'll let us know. :sly: I was just giving you a bit of a hard time. :D

As far as a PS3 full game save - I don't have one, as my PS3 is not capable of playing GT4. No back compatibility. And it seems that maybe cmpinberkeley is in the same boat.

What we DO have, are plenty of PS2 MaxDrive "UberSaves", (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1587927&postcount=1) and I happen to know you are within a close geographic location to cmpinberkeley to help with the MaxDrive part, if needed.

Since he seems to have a PAL PS2 and game, I think that will be the best way to get him some practice.

Cool, thanks for helping me work on a solution guys. When I get back home, I will dig my UK PS2 out of storage and see if it will fire up. It has been years!!

I will then just need you guys to tell me which cars and tracks to practice. I am currently fighting to qualify for a special high-profile series in iRacing which starts 1st August, which means I need to dedicate most of my time to that. But I definitely want to get some good GT4 practice in so I can make a reasonable showing with you guys and try not to embarrass myself :)

Here is a link to my gamesave as well: http://www.jumpace.com/gt/GT4JumpaceGameSave.zip. I likely won't be able to attend this one as when we last left flash, we have (essentially, but slowly) bought our first house so the funds will be going elsewhere. But count me in for a GT5 (which is rumored for either early December this year or March 2010) LAN event later on :) GL to everyone, now maybe there will be some breathing room, especially if Jack can't make it

I have a question... Do you run the more known tracks like Spa, Suzuka, Laguna Seca, Brands Hatch, Fuji, etc or even Infineon??? I saw the tracks that the UKGTP11 recently ran and the only track I recognize is Nurburgring...and that one would be a real !@%#@ to learn :scared:

You can only run the ones that are in the game - so you can't use Spa or Brands!

We typically have either "Dutch-style events" where the car and track combination is predetermined (though it's done in such a manner that we're not running the same track twice) or for events where only the car is known I'll (and Nick probably'll) hoik the next "x" tracks off a randomised list.

Eventually you'll end up driving at least once on every track though.

What he said. :D

And, you can find the track list for GT-4 here.

https://www.gtplanet.net/guides/index.php/Gran_Turismo_4_:_Track_List

The rally type tracks, including George V, Citta di Aria, and Costa di Amalfi, cannot be run in 6 player LAN. But all of the other tracks are fair game. 👍

Congratulations on your purchase Jerome!
Do you think you'll have room for some visitors at the beginning of September? ;)

Just talk gangsta fresh, blast rap, and wear a A's cap and you will be fine! I'm going ti be a rebel and wear a Giants hat and blast metal!! MUAHAHAHAHAA

Better drive fast!

Dudes, here in Oaksterdam blasting Metal and driving fast are just a way of life. :sly: I would love to join in the fun, but my work schedule will probably interfere. I work weekends and evenings, but I could request the time off. Hopefully things will work out for everyone. 👍

Sure thing dude, I'd love to try and repay you and Rachel's numerous gestures :D We will have a room that will pretty much be empty except for a queen size double thick air mattress (if that is okay for you guys :nervous:). Wish I could go, but it's probably better I wait for the GT5 meeting and drive down with my seat 💡 or box it up and take it with me for the flight...wonder how much that would be.

Ok then....
The news we're waiting for is in. August is training time and I'm withdrawing from the provisional list for July, hence SFGTP5 is happening on July 11th & 12th 2009.

I realise this is short notice, some 5 weeks away, but that's life.
So I now need to get into organisational overdrive (or overload :P) and get stuff sorted.

Given that I'm sceptical of the security and time constraints that'll be placed on us by hosting the event in Alameda (it'll mean setting up and dismantling the complete LAN set-up on both days) we're going to continue with the event in our garage.

What I really need to know now is who is definitely coming and what equipment you're bringing. Ideally if we can have as many stations as there are racers, and run a dual LAN setup, we can bang through more races more quickly - and do some "Dutcho"-schtyle raysching.
This is going to require a little spatial constraint though, especially with regards to TV/Monitor size.
Everyone loves to run on a big screen, and hopefully we don't have to use the "13" CRT of Earthquakes", but it'd be nice if we could set up 2 LANs, which means that a whole pile of 40" screens side-by-side isn't going to work! :(
Will this present a problem for anyone?
Can anyone supply more than 1 smaller TV/monitor of ideally, say, 20" or under?
If you have more than 1 networkable PS2 and wheel setup, please let me know. Ideally it'd be great if any driver could race any station on any LAN, but this means having them all configured.

Please let me know everything you can as soon as you can. 👍
This could be GT4's SFGTP swan-song, so let's make it a good 'un! :D

I'm in, and can bring my full setup (sans network adapter). Mazdaspeed DFP always wins! :mischievous:. You really haven't played GT4 until you've played it through a guitar amp.

You're sorted on the network adapter for fatty PS2, as I still have a spare, courtesy of David (DaveS1138) 👍
Ok, so we have a 2-way LAN so far. :D
Keep it coming!
Kyle has won first shout on the spare bedroom, sofa bed is currently still open to far-flung visitation. :)

Just to help matters and make preparation easier, I'm due back in Utah tomorrow and will be on a flight out of Oakland at 6:40am. Bleugh. :ill:
