Who's idea was it to put Vettel on the 3-stop strategy and Kimi on the 2 stopper?

This.

Ferrari pitted Vettel way too early. He lost the race during the 2nd stint. He should've just stayed with Max during this stint.

Kimi is always going to be the go-to guy for a two-stopper.

I think the real question is why they stopped Vettel for his third so early. They did get an undercut on Ricciardo, but it left them in such a vulnerable position.

F1 idea: each team sits out one or two races per season - that would at least stop an entire season being dominated by one runaway team and would probably result in more races like today's!

Have to applaud Toto Wolff's comments - this kind of incident will happen in racing, and it is vital that top teams let their drivers race each other - I hope the media and the twittersphere doesn't focus on the negative aspects of Mercs performance today and rather focuses on the fact that the result of such a policy is better races.

It's Verstappened. Neat and tidy race by him, the record of youngest ever F1 race winner will be really hard to beat given minimum age for Super Licence and how hard it is to go into a team that can challenge for race victory.

Lewis should really have gone for the outside both times. Really aggressive defending by Nico though, too much too late.

Half Dutch, Half Belgian - 100% Winner

Since when was half-of-somebody their paperwork? :D

Interesting to see the Red Bull fallout continuing, sounds like it's going to be a quiet ride home for Ricciardo. His insinuation is he was deliberately shafted by RB today. From them... it wouldn't surprise me.

Absolutely. No reason why it can't be celebrated in both halves. Just didn't want to take away from this Oranje love fest. :P

Bit drunk by now , but any news from the stewards regarding the crash from Mercedes? Or are they still in a
heated meeting?

He did it with a smile on his face, but there was shades of Webber during Ricci's interview regarding what happened with the strategy.

Lee McKenzie says his off-camera comments just before his interview with her were much more telling. "He wants answers", she reported.

It could just be one of those cases where the team thought the 3 stops, on paper, was the better strategy. Ferrari thought the same way with Vettel, and he seemed in a similar state of mind to Ricci, in that he wants some answers.

Teams don't run alternate strategies because the alternate is gaurenteed to be slower....they run it because, although it's less likely, there's a chance it could work. Today might just simply have been one of those days.

Of course, a guy could put his tinfoil hat on and say the RB favoured Max to justify their decisions, and also because they love a good media frenzie :P

Note to any mods reading this....could we get a tinfoil hat emoticon??

It's more the first corner's fault. Not enough of a stop.
There are circuits with shorter straights and faster corners that produce more overtakes, such as Brooklands and Stowe at Silverstone, turn 1 at Suzuka, Turn 4 at Interlagos.

Regardless, how many times did we actually see cars side-by-side? I'm sure you could only count it on one hand. Look how close the guys can be exiting the final chicane, and then see the following car wallow around in the wake and cross the startline 0.8 seconds back.
