LOL! i never thought id read G60 and Reliable in the same sentance. The chargers can be a nightmare if they are not rebuilt every 10k and at £700 a time its pretty expensive. Was the Rallye stock or did you tinker with it? Boost return pipe deletion (to stop the car dumping nice warm air back into the charger
) ported charger (usually done when you have it rebuilt) small pully, chip and exhaust and your pretty much looking at 200+ bhp and a heafty chunk of torque.
Or is this where you tell me you had one of the 71 16v G-Limited........
Spec....
G400 OSS - aka 'Goose'.
Took the small pulley off when I had the Mr G-Lader Stage 1 gas-flow and balance. Reprogrammed. Supersprint straight through exhaust with decat (spat flames on the overrun and set off car-alarms in multistoreys.) Fat 16" rims with 205/45s Yokies. Lowered, lots of rear camber to stop it from driving like a mk2 Escort. Grooved discs, Mintex pads.
And yes, it was as fast as a fast thing being fast, from 1,500rpm up. The whole thing was amazing, easily kept up with my friend's 16V Integrale, and without the toytown trim, squeaks, rattles, rot, crap paint and blowing hoses. I used to drive it hard, too, I set fire to the brakes on more than one occasion. It was the shortest wheelbase Audi Quattro you could buy, and I loved it.
When I had the G-lader flowed, it used to 'beat' at 2,000rpm and sound exactly like a TVR V8. It was fabulous. For weeks I didn't drive fast, I just drove everywhere at 2,000rpm in the most appropriate gear.
And no, not a 16V G-limited, it was one of the 62 official UK Rallye Special Editions with the half-leather trim... and they all came with Synchro 4WD and the 02E Motorsport gearbox (which was beautifully slick.)
Holy f-words, I miss that car. Don't ask what happened to it. Let's just say I did a lot of swearing on that day.
